Szczesny commands, Per & Kos top class, Giroud a cut above, Flamini the grinder: player ratings!

Togetherness has no price tag! With thanks to the Telegraph for photo

So 107 million pounds later we are still better than the spuds…Anyway straight to business, the player ratings.

Szczesny (8.0) – I have to say today he looked like the keeper we want to have between the sticks. Commanded his area expertly, fantastic communication with his defenders and made vital saves that made sure that three points remained at the Emirates. Top performance.

Gibbs (6.0) – By his standards he had an average game. Didn’t have much in him going forward and struggled a bit against Townsend. That said, he won his fair share of duels against him and slowly settled into the game as it wore on, especially with the introduction of Lamela. Finished the game strongly.

Per (7.5) – Powerful display by our BFG. Commanded the skies with his height, read the game well to make vital interceptions and most of all, controlled the game from the back. We now see why he has the armband albeit for now.

Kos (7.5) – As we have come to expect from the French man, top class display. Managed to keep Soldado out of the game and even managed to cover for Gibbs when he bombed forward or lost the ball. At the end, was at the heart of that fantastic Arsenal defence which stifled out the frustrated Spurs.

Jenkinson (6.5) – Was a surprise inclusion but he did put in a shift at right back. Showed good tackling but struggled a bit against the strength of Chadli in the opening stages. Settled as the game wore on.

Wilshere (5.0) – Was taken off before half time because he is ‘ill’ and it showed. Wasn’t his normal energetic self but did manage to carve out some decent chances. Hope he has a quick recovery over the international break.

Ramsey (7.5) – He really is coming of age. Energetic display all round, showing that right now no one is as committed to the cause as he is. Chased down every single ball and was always looking to instigate attacks. He needs to work on his final balls and decision making in the final third but other than that, wonderful performance.

Rosicky (6.5) – Put in a sublime performance, always looking to run at players and play dangerous balls behind the defence. Picked up a yellow card with a stupid challenge on Capoue though.

Cazorla (7.5) – Was his usual majestic self, always looking dangerous when on the ball. It is obvious that his technical ability was a class above everyone else. His movement was a bit subdued though, as a result of being played on the wing. Took two dangerous free kicks with the second one agonizingly close to making it 2-0.

Walcott (7.0) – His pace behind the defender was always a constant threat and this paid off when he swung in a low cross for Giroud to slot home. Would have piled more misery if it wasn’t for the outstanding Hugo Lloris.

Giroud (8.0) – Man of the match for me. Continued his goal scoring exploits making it 3 goals in 4 games with a wonderfully poked finish from Walcott’s cross that fooled everyone. Showed fantastic skill, composure and movement to score the goal. His work rate overall was amazing, despite the fact that we played a conservative game in the second half, making him a secluded figure upfront. Still won his aerial duels and chased down players. Needs to work on his pace on the ball. Sometimes his mind is sharp but his execution lets him down.

Flamini (6.5) – Looked like he lacks match fitness but still put in a decent performance. Made an interception that would have led to a goal chance if Ramsey hadn’t rushed his decision making. Received a yellow card for a crunching tackle on Paulinho.

Monreal (6.0) – Came on for Rosicky and should have put away a chance from a Walcott shot that was spilled towards him by Lloris. Otherwise was solid defensively and helped us see out the game.

Sagna N/A – Came on very late for Walcott. Didn’t have much time to influence the game though he made some important aerial clearances at the end to see out the result.

For me the most eye catching thing about our win was the collective team display. Everybody worked hard for each other tirelessly and gave nothing away.

It is always a good day when the Spurs kneel before our superiority. COYG!!!

  1. Marcus says:

Oh, and I forgot, based on what I saw from Flamini, we are covered at DM. He will get better with match fitness and produce the goods for us. I am sure of it, barring injuries of course.

  2. Jonathan Nelson says:

I thought Rosicky was well below par with many misplaced passes. Santi also did not have a great game. He can be somewhat of a liability on defense. Loris kept it close. I expect TFC to get better as the year progresses.

  3. John says:

For the first time in 5 years we have a ball winner in midfield the Flaminator

    He must start EVERY game

I am fed up with Arsenals midfield getting bullied

Ozil Jack Santi and Flaminator now thats a midfield

  4. Marcus says:

And by the way, WE”VE AGREED A DEAL FOR MESUT OZIL WITH REAL!!! Pending Medical and personal terms to be completed tomorrow.

  5. Vik says:

yea good to see flaming encouraging and giving everyone within his earshot a right mouthful. last time I saw that in an arsenal team was when eh oh flaming was there. A real motivator COYG.

  6. AFC says:

Marcus, let’s just hope this deal happens. I will be back to comment on your post later on tonight. 🙂

  7. Vik says:

Mama Mia that’s the best Derby present if the news is true now get another defender and striker Arsene.

  8. Ehn says:

Really outstanding from our small squad and always nice to see the Spud bow

  9. Marcus says:

    AFC,
    Get back to you tomorrow.

    Ehn,
    Fantastic.

  10. richhudsonsmith says:

This result covers up the cracks and just shows all The Spuds need to do to be better than The Arsenal is gel

  11. davi says:

I thought Rosicky was pretty key today, he supported Giroud really well, especially in the first half, but also defended well. He looks like more of a leader this season, and the return of Flamini and growth or players like Ramsey and Koscielny means we shouldn’t be lacking in that department.
Also thought Szczesny’s distribution was particularly impressive today. He kicked it out a couple of times but in general he played a calm short pass when it was necessary and booted long when he had to. He also made the right decisions on crosses, staying on his line rather than rushing into a crowd which he has been doing recently.

  12. Stiff Arse says:

Thought Gibbs had a better game than the 6/10 given. Townsend is always going to run at you and shot from distance (that’s basically all he does) and Gibbs was clever channeling him to where he was going to do less damage. Rosicky workrate phenomenal as well.

  13. James Bond says:

    Flam’s only 6.5 ?

deserved least an 8 in my opinion – outstanding leadership and kept things tidy

  14. Marcus says:

    richhudsonsmith,
True but we are in the market as we speak.

  15. Marcus says:

    Stiff Arse,
I gave him 6.5 because I felt he performed below his usual level.

  16. Dylan says:

Sorry I was away at my grandparents house and couldn’t write the match report guys. 😉 Great post Marcus. 🙂 I’m buzzing at the rumors.
Current squad = FA Cup challengers
Current squad + Ozil and Alderweireld = PL Challengers
Current squad + Ozil, Alderweireld, Draxler = CL Challengers
Current squad + Ozil, Alderweireld, Draxler, Di Maria, and maybe that GK on loan = treble challengers.
😀 And for once this isn’t just ridiculous optimism! This could happen! 😀

  17. Marcus says:

    James Bond,
We are going to see waaaaaaaay much better from him as long as he stays fit. Trust me.

  18. Highbury Harmony says:

Nice stuff Marcus, I largely agree with the majority of your rankings. Can’t really fault any individual for today’s collective team performances and I thought we did well to defend our league. Had we played more offensively all game and had more luck, this game could have been 5-0 easily (Ramsey miss in the box, Theo getting beaten to twice by Lloris and Monreal’s mistimed rebound).

Happy with the 3 points and this was the sort of versatile approach we need to help us see through close contests.

  19. Marcus says:

    Dylan,
The ozil one isn’t a rumor. BBC and Sky sports have confirmed we are nearing a deal.

  20. Highbury Harmony says:

Dylan, Alderweireld is expected to sign with Atletico (confirmed by himself) barring some last minute ditch by another club to sign him.

  21. Marcus says:

    Highbury Harmony,
And we were the better team. Sure we didn’t have possession but we were more dangerous when we did have it. Plus we were defensively fantastic.

  22. Nemera says:

They did their best, they deserve 3 point.

  23. Marcus says:

    Highbury Harmony,
You never know..Remember Willian? Anyway, catch you guys tomorrow.

  24. TotalArsenal says:

Marcus -thanks for the quick post and fine ratings with not much to argue about. 🙂

5 for Jack is low and so is a 6 for Gibbs, but they are your ratings and you got the better performing players right imo. It worried me that they pushed us back a lot getting the ball into the danger area too easily. Our defence stood their ground, but I wished we kept the ball longer in midfield to relieve some pressure. I expected Rosicky to lead by example in this game, but he often gave the ball away unnecessarily. The arrival of Ozil – IF indeed the case – could mean Rosicky returning to the bench and that might not be a bad thing.

  25. Fozzie B says:

Well done Marcus. I agree the key ingredient for me was the team spirit. Also the Flame made a bigger impact than I expected. He had presence! … And he will only get better. Good to see him marshalling the team in defence and Soldildo was never given enough space to roger us!! Ozil has been my dream midfield signing for years and I will welcome the spainish Marty fellman with open arms!! Now we just need ratatouille and I think we all our arsenal bk cannons can do a 21 gun salute to Wenger!! Well a few of the lads might be firing blanks but hell I think mine will be AW47 assault mode!! 😀

  26. mA says:

    thank you for the post

everything good in that field involved Santi (Arsene, could you get us 3 Santis?) and Ramsey the bulldozer. I think the Ramsey is made of steel.

anyway, Wenger taught AVB a lesson by overloading the midfield using Carzola. Tot’s strategy -Dembele on Jack Wilshere, Paulinho on Aaron Ramsey and Capoue on Tomas Rosicky- could not work given Santi’ s quality, awareness and footballing brain to drift into pockets of space. Essentially, Cazorla became a fourth central midfielder though at expense of Gibbs against Townsend and Walker. All Arsenal half-chances (except one) passed through Santi!!!

  27. Fozzie B says:

I agree total that the midfield did lack composure and should have held onto the ball more and this backed up spuds having 57% possession. Once their new team gels they will be a force. We will get better. At least we looked far more threatening but I do think theo needs to create more chances by hunting for the ball. He needs to roam more and get closer to girouds knockdowns

  28. TotalArsenal says:

The Flame had presence indeed, Fozzel. Loved it.

Fine comment mA and agreed with your analysis. Santi was impressive all over the pitch.

  29. TotalArsenal says:

Fozzel – they can have the possession but not in front of our goal! 😀

If we had finished our chances better ooh boy would we have given them a spanking! 😳

Agreed Theo needs to sharpen up a bit but it will come.

  30. TotalArsenal says:

No worries Dylan – we have Marcus’ fine player ratings and the next post will have to be about the torture window day.

  31. thegoon says:

honestly, hands up as a top ramsey hater, i am now like his no.1 fan and he definitely was my motm followed by giroud, has been for past 3 games. his contribution, ability to recover balls he loses and his overall ability….man hey he made dembele tired! when everybody’s energy levels dropped and you could tell our counters werent coming off cos santi was slightly slow to release or do it accurately, theo couldnt make his average trademark runs to score, Ramsey was the only one at one point that seemed to care what was going on. am so so glad this boy has come through, i felt bad when they wasted his effort earlier when he outmuscled dembele and created a golden chance..man Ramsey all day.the new arsenal engine! 8.5 for me and am rarely this generous

  32. Glic says:

    Thanks Marcus.
Just seen highlights on MotD, so can only judge from that. Theo looked dangerous again !. Ramsey full of running and proving the doubters wrong again !. Rosicky full of high tempo again !. Szczesny unbelievable save again !. Santi the magician again !. Kos back from where he left off again !. Giroud making HH eat his words again !. Flamini back at the Arse again !. Should have been at least 5-2 again !. Could possibly get 4th again !. I`ve got a boner again !.

  33. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    Fine post Marcus

We deserved our win. It was a gutsy and spirited performance and defensivly we cleared our lines brilliantly

It was a very strange game to watch. it quickly became apparent that Totnumb were playing five centre backs, 2 in defence and 3 in the middle. This gave them the opportunity to control the tempo of the game, but there build up play was slow and ponderous.

To our credit we showed tactical intelligence and realsied we could drop off and hit them on the counter. Hows that for plan B.

Seriously guys, this Club is all ready for lift off. Arsene Wenger is developing something special here and we are on the verge of some big signings which is all part of the process forward.

We might not have enough to win the league this year, but we are on the up and very soon we will have.

Please lay off the Manager and the Club. The spirit and attitude shown by the players is no accident, It is testament to Wenger, his coaching staff, and the Club in general.

Be paitent and let this vision materialise, it will be worth it.

  34. Glic says:

Oh and make it a Terrific Window and we can compete again !.

  35. Art says:

How can you say a sublime performance by Rosicky and then give him a 6.5, were you trying to put in another word and the autocorrect got you

  36. Glic says:

It`s still very early , but I just wonder what will happen to the Spuds if after spending all of the Bale money and more, that they don`t get CL football !. Especially as all that money could have paid for a quarter of a new stadium and could end up down the drain !. What a shame that would be !.

  37. AFC says:

    Marcus, top match review. 🙂

Santi was MOTM for me. Szez made a really good save while Ramsey and Rosicky played with their usual drive. Very good touch by Giroud for the goal and Walcott looked a threat like he always does. Flamini came on and was very solid. If Wilshere and Ramsey continue to play well in midfield together and form a good partnership where does this leave Arteta? I forgot all about him. Will Arteta no longer be in the starting eleven? The Gibbs and Monreal combo seems to be something Wenger is going for a lot now. Maybe that could be due to lack of options on the bench. The defence was pretty solid as usual and together with Szez kept the clean sheet.

Great team effort from all the guys today and I am just glad we could get the 3 points. Players will likely be signed tomorrow and if the right players are signed we will finally be able to challenge for trophies.

  38. Glic says:

Seems like Levy`s obsession just to beat Arsenal is clouding his normally praised business judgment !. Couldn`t happen to a nicer front wheel ! . Apologies in advance if that term of phrase upsets anybody on BK !. In defence , I`m a cockney and that’s cockney rhyme and slang !. Please remove if unacceptable.

  39. Glic says:

    AFC

That’s all it`s been for me, regarding Arsenal, Arsene, and the board etc`. Not too win trophy`s, although that would be fantastic, but just to know in my heart that we have a team capable of competing and challenging for them, because that’s where we…The Arsenal should be, not just scraping for 4th, but taking on the likes of ManU, City and Chavs !. That’s all I ask for.
We haven`t challenged since Eduardo broke his leg !. If we get some SQ in, then I know we have a squad to be taken seriously and be back where we belong as contenders. Over to you Arsene.

  40. Glic says:

Now off to bed with a smile on my face and a rock hard boner and for the missus to say….” oooh, what`s up with you ?…..I take it Arsenal beat the Spuds today ! “. Obviously after 37 years of marriage, she knows me well !. hahaha

  41. abusufyan says:

THAT’S IMPRESIVE, BUT THE GUNERS NEED TO STRENGTHEN THEIR SQUAD TO KEEP ON WINING

  42. abusufyan says:

ARSENAL STILL NEED KEY PLAYERS DESPER TOTHAM WIN

  43. Dylan says:

HH, Forgot about the Alderweireld to Athletic deal. Ok, perhaps replace him with Kouyate? Or perhaps Richards? And maybe swoop for Zouma or Ginter (I don’t think either of them went anywhere) or this Dier kid Adams mentioned?
Marcus, it’s a rumor to me until it’s on the club website. 😉 I’ve been fooled by that too many times this window (Higuain, Suarez, etc), but I’ve remained extremely optimistic. And if Ozil comes I’ll have called it all along! 😉
    https://bergkampesque.com/2013/07/27/5-reasons-why-gooners-shouldnt-give-up-hope/
Ozil and Di Maria both on my list! Gustavo too, who almost joined us! 😉

  44. Dylan says:

Hey we’re mentioned in this article! 😉
    http://gossip.ladyarse.com/arsenal/2013/09/01/ozil-to-arsenal-agreed-in-principle/
    “A signing of Bergkamp-esque proportions”

  45. TotalArsenal says:

hahaha Dylan – well spotted 🙂

Not sure though whether it would be a signing of Bergkampesque proportions; a good signing for sure but unlike some on here, I am not overly keen on Ozil.

  46. Dylan says:

TA, really? You don’t rate Ozil? Why? Do you dislike his lack of pace or his weak foot? 😉 haha. Or do you dislike the way he plays on fifa? 😉

  47. TotalArsenal says:

I am not sure about his presence / ability to make a difference when it is really needed.

  48. ProudGooner says:

ha ha ha ha look at this- i was just checking out world record transfer fees on the BBC site in 1902 this guy was the first £1000 transfer player. Check out the bloke in the middle he is fucking massive he must have been the keeper. These were pro’s its no joke—-

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23560273

  49. Dylan says:

TA, I think that’s down to Ronaldo more than anything. No one notices anyone, but Ronaldo in Madrid. I think when Ronaldo isn’t there to outshine him, Ozil will step into the spotlight. 🙂

  50. TotalArsenal says:

great picture, PG. Imagine trying to dive against them… 😆

  51. TotalArsenal says:

Well Dylan, I have watched him play for Germany a few times and he did not impress me overly, and same goes for RM. I am sure he will add value to our team and if Wenger believes this is the guy for us then I am more than happy to be proven totally wrong. 🙂

  52. ProudGooner says:

ha ha ha ha, they were a different breed those guys, if you dove against them they would probably look at you like you had gone mad, then gave us a reason to lay on the floor lol

  53. ProudGooner says:

I must say the coach did a fine job on there fitness levels 🙂

  54. AFC says:

TA, when you do the pre-match previews and you do the predicted line ups/formation. That’s all.

  55. ProudGooner says:

They look like that team Peter Crouch joins in the advert on the telly .

  56. AFC says:

Thanks, TA. Much appreciated. I will post it under the ‘AFC Posts’ page.

  57. TotalArsenal says:

Off to sleep now. Catch you guys tomorrow. Will JB deliver or ………….. 😉

  58. TotalArsenal says:

Okay AFC – just let me know on the main page as well.

  59. AFC says:

    Sure, TA. 🙂

I’m off now as well. 🙂 Let’s hope Wenger surprises us. Fingers crossed.

  60. Dylan says:

…and it’s all quiet. Only 17HT, is more west of me (meaning awake right now) and I don’t believe he’s on. I’m all alone…scouring the Internet for clues about tomorrow. Abel Hernandez? Seems like a Remy situation at QPR (club relegated, young talented player wants to leave, club want to keep him). I’ve heard positives about him, but not enough to know if he’s good enough for us. If we sign Di Maria and Draxler I don’t know that we’d need a striker as both Poldi and Theo could play through the middle if need be (plus Sanogo). I’d rather out our money towards Di Maria and Draxler than Hernandez. That being said, if we landed Benzema I’d be thrilled.
Alright, no more rumors for now. All is quiet on the western front. Goodnight for now folks. Prepare for a big day tomorrow. 😉

  61. Highbury Harmony says:

Glic, I wouldn’t say I’m eating my words about OG. What he does well are all the attributes I admire about him. I just chose to overlook his 7 misplaced passes in the game, along with his missed free header, together with his awful pace and passing that ruined out counter attacks on a couple occasions.

I just choose to look at his performance on what he does offer based on his physical make-up and for me, he delivered well on that front.

  62. Highbury Harmony says:

Dylan, I’m not convinced we need a new CB. With the three we have, in addition to Sagna, I’d say we’re set. Flamini can cover at full back if needed too (in the even of Sagna shifting to CB).

Di Maria or Ozil are the priorities for me.

  63. Highbury Harmony says:

TA, I can kind of see what you mean by being underwhelmed by Ozil at times. He can appear disinterested and drift in and out of games and isn’t the type of player to be pulling the strings all game long with his work rate like that of a Ramsey, Cesc or OG.

However, he’s more talented than all three players combined and has somewhat plateaued in his development due to being just that much more talented than everyone else. I think the PL challenge where the clubs are more balanced will be a better test for him, especially where the pace is increased and he can really embarrass opposing players with his exquisite touch/control and his change of pace.

A player of Ozil’s quality, and at his age, should have reached even greater heights at this point and perhaps that is where the less than favourable review comes in TA?

  64. Highbury Harmony says:

With that said, Ozil is a top 5 talent in the world at his position. He’s probably the 2nd best CAM behind Iniesta; the only reason Real are letting him go is because of their infatuation with shiny new toys in Isco and Bale.

  65. JM says:

I have written previously (August 25, 2013 10:13 in the “Pod delivers, Giroud, Rosicky & Theo show their team-value, Santi and Ramsey class: Fulham Match Report”) in that I hope Olivier Giroud becomes our “Filippo Inzaghi” (include the celebrations).

Unspectacular (not really fast, did not have amazing dribbles) yet a reliable source for goals (a hardworker, pushing himself to his limit inside the opponent’s penalty box, loves football and scoring).

  66. Funminiyi says:

    Nice one Marcus.
Re-Giroud, its 4 in 5games this season and not the other way. Thanks.
Have you heard? Abel Hernandez from Palermo, anybody?

  67. Funminiyi says:

Dylan, I still think after we might have acquired the services of Oxil, Di Maria and Kalou or whomever we could get in, we’re gonna need someone sharp to finish off our moves. This guy is around 21 now and from what I know, Wenger has been following his developments for the past 3/4 seasons now. He’s such a good young guy that’ll bring something different to our squad. His blistering pace is also useful with his set of skills.

  68. r.iris says:

I sooo wanted to see a tackle like flamini did on capoue, someone in the midfield to get the ball no matter what. I enjoyed it so much, never seen that type in years from our midfield.

  69. jeff says:

If you analayzed the game, actually Ramsey lost his possesion more often than Rosicky did,but Ramsey work rate was immense while Rosicky work for the team system as a whole. Ramsey often lose the ball because he often keeps it too long. Rosicky,on the other hand, likes to do barcelona style of one touch passing, and play the creative through pass which of course will lead to some misplaced pass as its consequence. But i must say, i enjoy watching rosicky very much. He knows when to defend and when to bring the ball forwards. I was happy for Flamini as well who i thought was superb yesterday. He was so commanding which is good to keep the urgency high.

  70. Marcus says:

    TA,
True, but competition is nothing but good. As you have said and I totally agree, we didn’t hold the ball long enough. Ozil would give us that, plus better penetration in the final 3rd.

  71. Marcus says:

    Fozzie B,
The flame…I like it!!!! That’s his new nickname. And trust me with match fitness, he can prove to be the missing key in midfield. I forsee him having an immense season if he can stay fit.

  72. Marcus says:

    mA and the goon,
Its amazing how Ramsey has stepped up in such a short while. He is also slowly rediscovering his scoring touch..

  73. Marcus says:

    Glic,
In the 2nd half we were under pressure and were generally out-possessed but our defense was immense.

  74. Marcus says:

    TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT,
    Couldn’t agree with you more.

  75. Marcus says:

    AFC,
    Agreed. Great team performance.

  76. Marcus says:

    TA,
I bed to differ with you re Ozil. He is top brass. His dribbling, Vision, passing, decision making, skill, ball control is all top top quality.
I think that he would be a great signing. However I feel we need a top striker too.
Funminiyi, I’ve seen we’ve been linked with hernandez and Ba, but I feel both are inferior to Giroud. I’m actually hoping Real can pull off the Suarez deal so they sell us Benzema.

  77. alexgunners says:

    Marcus,
Great post and i think that in general the ratings are pretty much spot on.
Whilst we bask in the glory of defeating the mashed spuds, we shouldnt get too ahead of ourselves. It’s a long season and we need to add to our squad.
One thing that no one can take away was the spirit of the team yesterday. It was amazing.

    COYG!!!!

Here is a little light comedy for you BK’ers

  78. TotalArsenal says:

Cheers Alex – how is the pregnancy going?

Jeff – fine comment and fair enough re Ramsey losing as many balls as Rosicky. But then there is an age difference and I expected Rosicky to choose for possession at times when we needed it.

    HH/Marcus

Technically and tactically Ozil is a great player but my doubt is indeed re his ability to influence games when the going gets tough and his presence (he seems quite introvert). You could be right, HH, that he needs another challenge to prove himself and I welcome him with open arms. But my gut is not getting overly excited, or in Glic’s terms: I am enjoying a semi-hampton! 🙂

  79. TotalArsenal says:

    Marcus

We are not getting a top striker but a very good cover player at best. The goals are being spread throughout attack and Wenger is not going to change this in a hurry. Therefore Ba or Hernandez would make sense.

  80. alexgunners says:

    TA,

How was your short break? All is well here especially after the match yesterday.
Wife is well, baby is well, the gunners are starting to fire. Frogger is maybe on his way to the emirates.
I just hope for some more cover.
The team spirit is there. Things will get better (fingers crossed)

  81. Marcus says:

    TA,
I think you are wrong on both counts. Let me begin with Ozil. Mesut has been phenomenal for Real these past 3 seasons. He has been their heart beat at the middle of the park, despite the fact that Mou’s tactics didn’t suit him. The only reason (I believe) he is being let go is because of Real’s fascination with new toys.

Re a top striker, Wenger has made it clear all summer that this is his main priority (Higuain, suarez, Rooney et al). The reason why we inquired about Ba and are looking at Hernandez is the supposed lack of top strikers in the market. However that could change. BBC, about a week ago, confirmed that Wenger wants Benzema. Apparently, Real are willing to sell, but only if they can secure a replacement, preferably Suarez. Last night they made an approach for Suarez, (see it here—-> http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/01/real-madrid-prepare-massive-bid-to-test-liverpools-resolve-to-keep-luis-suarez-3945866/?) and if they can get LFC to sell, they’ll need to offload him to raise the funds. If they do, we will definately be in for him. Given the timeline involved, there’s a slim chance it could happen but if it does, you can count on Arsene going in for him.

Morning Worn Out Bishop Bashers 😆

I see HH is still biting, reel him in !. hahaha
You will see him in this video if you look carefully, he`s the one sat in the corner with a pint of tears ! . hahaha

  83. TotalArsenal says:

Great positive comment, Alex. Good to hear your wife is doing well. Maybe we should call Prince Ozil instead of Frogger, but first he needs to come 😉

  84. Glic says:

In other news……….” According to JB`s sauces. There were more riots in N17 last night. Deluded fans were angry as their massive £110m spending spree had no effect whatsoever on the darkness that covers N17 from living in Arsenals shadow. The rampage is said to have caused £10m pounds worth of improvements !. “

  85. TotalArsenal says:

Marcus, I am happy you are excited about Ozil. I have reservations and you have not convinced me to change those 🙂

Never use the metro as a source to back up your views or thoughts – they are the most mendacious of all the tabloids/free papers.

You think we are after a striker where I have always said we are after a man in the hole: one who can do midfield play but also score bucket loads of goals.

  86. Glic says:

    Totes
I would have thought Ozil was perfect as ….Toad in the hole !.

  87. TotalArsenal says:

    I love it Glic, that’s brilliant 🙂

  88. TotalArsenal says:

Alex, short break was really good: so much space and fresh air and hardly any other human beings- bliss 😛 I spoke to some Aussies from Adelaide at breakfast who were touring Europe, which I am sure you will be doing sooner or later! 🙂

  89. Marcus says:

    TA,
    Didn’t know that about Metro…

  90. Prince says:

Good Morning BK and all you nervous gooners 🙂

  91. TotalArsenal says:

    Marcus

How are soon-to-be-wife and baby girl doing?

  92. TotalArsenal says:

Morning Princey – Alex posted the video earlier. 🙂

  93. Prince says:

Morning chief Total. How is you mate? 🙂
Hope you had a lovely jubbley trip. Im guessing you enjoyed our ‘Braveheart’ performance 😀

Marcus, Fantastic buddy! Only i would have given every one of our players an extra point on yop of what you have given them. But thats just me, today im in a caring sharing mood…..lets hope the transfer window treats us the same 🙂

  94. Prince says:

Ooooops, eager beaver i am. Cheers Alexinho, great minds an all.

  95. Glic says:

Oops. Sorry lads unless you`re signed up you cant log in !. 😦

  96. TotalArsenal says:

    Glic – you are a tease 😆

Prince – yes enjoyed our togetherness AND calmness throughout most of the game. So much better than the VIlla home game where we did not control the tempo of the game for most parts. Are you staying up all night for the TW developments?

  97. Prince says:

This is a comment i read on ‘arseblog’ when player ratings came out. It was in reply to someone who had said that Ollie G was not world class. Now, Ollie has never been my first choice, and i thought we were moving away from our traditional strikers from the past, but this comment sums up how i feel about Ollie and his performance last night. In saying that though, how cool would it be to have another forward play with Ollie who could read and be quick enough on his headers, tap downs and layoffs. Maybe Chicarito or someone of that ilk. But Giroo was MotM for me.

“A world class striker is a striker who can play in a completely even game and produce the one moment of sheer, magical class that brings the 3 points home with his team. Who puts in a man of the match performance in the biggest game. Who bullies defenders, holds up play, beats his man to set his teammate up, plays defensive mid when everyone else has sold themselves, heads dangerous balls out of his own box, clears the ball off the fucking line to preserve the lead he gave his team.

Giroud was unplayable today. Give him some fucking credit.”

    Fantasy points:-

    Goals scored
    Giroud

    Assists
    Walcott

    Yellow cards
    Rosicky
    Flamini

    Saves

    Bonus
    Szczesny
    Gibbs
    Jenkinson
    Mertesacker (2)
    Giroud (3)

    Yellow cards
    Paulinho
    Defoe

    Saves
    Lloris (4)

  98. Prince says:

Total, not sure. Last time i missed the trolley dash, we ended up with Arteta Merts Park etc.
This TW im a little hopeful. That grin from Wenger was re-assuring? Oh dear, am i asking for more pain? 😦

  99. Prince says:

How good was Merts tackle? ………….C’mon as if you dont know which one im talking about.

    Marcus, TA et al

    My quick thoughts and additions…

    1. I thought it was OG and commented so yesterday for MoTM for the same reasons Prince posted, but not as eloquently on my part. When it comes down to one **necessary** touch, then it;s the real strikers who step up. So, regardless, to me OG was the real deal yesterday, especially as that was not even a half chance really…

    2. Ozil: I agree with you both in parts. I think we have wanted an organiser and I think Ozil is the guy. I tend to prefer those who create chances than those who take them, since, per above, if you get more chances, you should get more goals most of the time. I think he will add another dimension to what is developing into a real bossy midfield.

    3. Flamini and TA: to me, before the pub switched to the superior Jupiler league, the difference when Flamini came on was absolutely immediate in tone and body language and how the ball moved and team behaved. A real win if his fitness comes up and he stays injury free. In the ongoing debate for TAs most desired beasty of DMs his performance yesterday was significant proof his convictions..

    4. Rosicky and Santi: I thought Rosicky did very well. In such a tight game with Spurs clogging everything it always comes to that one touch and chance. Thus, you have to force the pace and ball some, with the attendant risks. I think Rosicky was doing exactly what he’s supposed to there, and had Presence! in doing it, which also helps Santi be Santi and opens space for him that might not otherwise be there as there are more people than him to focus on when Rosicky et al are going well like that and looking dangerous

    5. I have seen the word Presence! (with exclamation point) used several times now, and yesterday, to blow my own horn a touch, our midfield was finally showing Presence! Aaron who has really come on with Rosicky forcing things and full of effort and Santi being Santi gave Spurs little to do but hide under a rock. Brilliant. When an ill JW came off Flamini just added teeth. I think we have a lot (A LOT) to be happy about in that part of the park (except depth.. 11 hours left as I type this !! 🙂 )

    6. Almost finally, I disagree with some stats. Stats are just summary numbers. We had less shots, but far more in the box and near it, which is what counts. Similarly, for possession, it is not everything. We have dominated it and lost before. And it was skewed by the Spurs really pushing in the finale, as they should do, down one in the last 20 mins. As someone already noted, our possession was quality, attacking possession.

    7. Szez: I think he finally did what he is paid to do and no more really. Different to some comments. In any game against the other 5 of the top 6, yyou cannot expect to dominate all. Thus, there will always be 1-2 real chances the other side gets that require a real response from the GK. Yesterday, Szez delivered,.. As he should do! Lloris on the other hand kept Spurs in it and likely wont receive the credit he’s due..

Just my 72 extra pence — jgc

  102. oz gunner says:

    @ Marcus

good stuff, appreciate the good read

Watching flamini play again for Arsenal brought back some top memories from the 07/08 season. I was that excited I had to stand up pressed to the bar all night. What a team performance again!!!

    @ Gerry

happy bday for yesterday! glad the arse could make your day better

  103. TotalArsenal says:

    Seven fine points jgc 🙂

    1. Agreed OG man of the moment, let alone match.
    2. Agreed he will add another dimension i.e. Wilshere/Rosicky with goals. It is a lot of money though, and if it means we will not get Cesc back, or Dennis forbid Fab04 even goes to Manure, I will be well peed off.
    3. Yes, Flamini brought the bite back into the team. I wished the midfield kept the Spuds further away from the box in 2nd half though, but this is something they can work on.
    4. Nah, Rosicky did not impress me, especially in 2nd half.
    5. Presence! was a brilliant invention and post by you, and you should start working on the next one… something down the line of ‘The Presence! of the Flame’ 🙂
    6. Agree on the stats – we had chances in space and in their box and could/should have won with a bigger margin. We don’t score enough at home at the moment, but it will come.
    7. Szczesny did well and benefited from our defence being close to him. Still need experienced back up in case he gets injured.

  106. TotalArsenal says:

Thanks for the link Gunner Ever – very promising…

  107. Wengerball says:

After world cup 2010, the price was about £15M and now it’s about £42.4M….
Hope AFC continues 95% with it’s philosophy in future of building bottom up and not otherwise.

Welcome though MO… always a joy watching your skills when you play…

    😉

  108. TotalArsenal says:

50/50 is the best you can hope for Wengerball.

  109. Wengerball says:

I hope AW is not thinking doing an AF at the end of the season when he went for RVP in quest to leave on a high…

  110. James Bond says:

Worth every penny…and with MO at the Emirates that’s the league won…. you all can quote me on that.

1 down and 3 more in the pipeline.

    TA , how we doing ? 🙂

  111. jgc says:

    TA et al

My quick thoughts on Rosicky… I missed some second half (jupiler time! les hommes savent quoi! 🙂 ) …

    1. He was tiring some from the work rate. Another call for depth to give him time to come to truly full fitness. He’s played a lot of games lately with high energy, so at his age and fitness some fatigue is likely there.

Same for Diaby, BTW, who should have this season off so we an watch him boss and terrify (and perhaps more) RVJ next year! 🙂

    2. I think in the tight games where you are evenly matched, or mostly so, attacking mids will look worse. Are they actually “worse” or are they simply ceding the other side it’s due as they arent “bad” either. If, of what I saw late first half and early second, happened against CP or WBA or similar, I’d be more concerned about if he’s up to it.

Just my thoughts further.. I will think on the post.. have to see another game or two tho… Perhaps you or others here can enlighten an old(er) man on links one can see it or pay to see it?

    cheers — jgc

Sky sports have just reveled the above it is 100% true

  114. Wengerball says:

I think such investment shows how much AFC board and Kroenke believe in AW. It’s massive backing towards what AW fantastically does for the club as well as tacking lots of slack almost single handed when it’s not all rosy at other times.
Great pat on the back on AW from the board I feel…
    😉

  115. jgc says:

    All

    Some quick thoughts on MO

    1. I like him better than Suarez, not necessarily because he will do more or the same, but no biting and issues… So, that’s a win

    2. I like creators, as I have said, so…

    3. The interesting question: Will he step up now that he is out of the shadow of the worlds second biggest ego ? Especially as he comes into his prime at 24+ years? Or will he fall apart in the PL due to pace adn the shadow of NB? the worlds first biggest ego.. 🙂

    I think / hope the former…

    4. TA, your concern regarding Cesc, I dont think it limits us there. Worst case, if Cesc wants back and we want him (dont we?! 🙂 ) we can pull one of the good Tottenham things and sell on MO for big dosh, or at least break evenish dosh…

    5. That leads to the final interesting point. If, repeat **IF**, FFP actually does work, we may well see a drop in such huge transfer fees, at least now without some offsets (as we see at RM now?), so what does that mean for next years or the year after’s sales, will they be lower priced do you think given the almost 100% inflation from last years prices (it seems to me)… thoughts/comments welcome!

    cheers — jgc

  116. jgc says:

  118. AFC says:

Reports saying that Ozil is having a medical and United will not go in for him.

Also hearing stories about Ba. To be honest I’d rather we covert Podolski to ST and buy Di Maria.

  119. James Bond says:

man utd ? spending 40 million on a player ? that too in one go ? you got to be joking

that’s the 2nd most expensive transfer in the history of british transfers done by Arsenal

Utd can dream and be happy with Fellaini – paying in installments

i feel a change in the air ? i’m sure the rest of you do as well – from now on, UTD can start playing for the 4th spot along with liverpool and spuds – start the engine time

    however,

keep yourself open to the idea of BA – it is gonna go down right to the wire, if we are unable to get our top dawgs then January it is – and BA will have to do.

TA, wanted him all along, so don’t shoot the messenger, have a go at TA 😀

  120. TotalArsenal says:

jgc – all agreed and just for the minutes ( 🙂 ) I do rate Rosicky highly.

    ahahhahahaa @ JGC

nah, i don’t have an ego as such, i’m a very humble person, i just like to josh as times, that’s all but saying that, who knows what may happen after i get my statue 😉 ask me after i’ve got one – Hope TA is working hard

for those of you, who have a good memory, you will recall me saying that we will break our transfer record at least TWICE this transfer window ?…

i’m confident by the end of today we would have spend 60 million plus comfortably (fingers crossed , it all pans out well)…

keep the faith, there is more to come !

Gerry, 17HT, Dylan – hope you lot are feeling a tad more better now ?

    be back in a bit.

    My top 10 current footballers:

    Wilshere
    Cazorla
    Fabregas
    Ozil
    Reus
    Benzema
    Messi
    Ox
    Isco
    Muniain

Suffice to say we could 5 of my top 10 favourites. Let’s go for Messi too!!!

  124. TotalArsenal says:

Hahaha – JB you have delivered almost one – well done mate. The feet of the statue are being sculpted as we speak 🙂

HH do you have time to write a few lines about Ozil now?

AFC – the Pod can never play the Ollie role but BA can be converted. We need back up in case OG gets injured.

  125. Highbury Harmony says:

TA, waiting for the official, official confirmation mate 😉

  126. AFC says:

This is the problem with Ba. Ba is a very similar ST to Giroud, both are around the similar age and I would say Giroud is better or at least on par. So why do we need to him. I’d rather we go in a for different sort of ST (like Hernandez) who can offer something different to our attack. If we get Ozil and pair him with Santi, Theo or even Di Maria behind any ST he would still score goals because of the creating skills/ball distributing of all three players. It would be better to use the Ba money on a winger like Di Maria. That’s just my opinion.

  127. TotalArsenal says:

Messi hahahaha HH You MAD! 😀

23 club hat-tricks already – best ever player – and 100 away goals!

  128. TotalArsenal says:

AFC – Wenger plays certain systems and he will want two good players for every position. If OG gets injured he will have to adept the system which a) he is not brilliant at and b) takes time to do during which cups and positions in the league are lost. BA would make sense to me, but of course there are better ones. I would no say NEIN to Lewandowski hahahaha 😛

Come on JB – make another big signing promise to us hahahaha 😛

  129. TotalArsenal says:

jgc – I am just praying he does not go the Mancs before the deadline tonight….

  130. Highbury Harmony says:

To be perfectly honest, if Ozil is our only big signing, I walk away from today over the moon.

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/8902829/deadline-day-abel-hernandez-hoping-to-leave-palermo-before-window-shuts

Hernandez signing #2? I heard Ba is linked too!

  131. Prince says:

😯 ZIL = played more key passes last season (78) for Real Madrid than Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas combined (75) at Barcelona.

Come on already, how hard is it to type the word “official”???

  132. AFC says:

TA, still not convinced. Anyway he can prove me wrong if he joins us. 😉

Ozil would be brilliant but we will still need more signings if we are to challenge.

We currently have: Szez, Fab, Sagna, Jenks, Mert, Kos, Verm, Gibbs, Monreal, Flamini, Wilshere, Ramsey, Santi, Arteta, Rosicky, Podolski, Ox, Theo, Giroud, Ryo, Sanogo. Not sure Diaby will be included in the 25 man squad.

So that leaves four spaces. Ozil will fill one and we might get Di Maria to fill another. I have to agree with Adams when he said we should be looking to sign defensive players.

Ozil, Di Maria, one defensive player should be our main targets in my opinion. Maybe get a GK and loan out Fab. Then go in for a ST.

  133. Highbury Harmony says:

Prince, Ozil was the quickest to create a key pass (22.1 mins/key pass) across the 5 big leagues last year (EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundlesiga and Ligue 1).

Top class CAM, only behind Iniesta imo.

  134. Highbury Harmony says:

    TA, link?

  135. TotalArsenal says:

AFC – Tony Adams great player- let’s leave it at that. 🙂

Maybe a right back or another DM, but additional striker is now priority nr.1 imo.

  136. TotalArsenal says:

HH – sorry my sort of humour 😉

  137. Prince says:

    Very Ozifficial. 🙂

You seem a tad happier today Total, still a little reserved, but happier. All be over soon.

HH, no complaints here. Is he officially left footed?

  138. Highbury Harmony says:

I wonder how much influence Poldi, Per and Santi had on Ozil’s decision.

  139. Highbury Harmony says:

Prince, Ozil is only left footed LOL. He’s very similar to Messi in that even though he only uses his left foot, opposing players can still not figure him out.

  140. AFC says:

TA, I know he talks rubbish but I feel he is right this time. A ST should be our main target. I would leave the denfensive player until the end. I would try and get a young CB. Start rebuilting our defence for the future. I would go in for Papadopoulos.

  141. Prince says:

Ive seen him use both feet effectively. He could be ambidextrious just like Santi.

  142. TotalArsenal says:

Ozil will benefit a lot from Flamini doing the dirty work behind him (and protecting him against being bullied) and Ramsey doing a lot of the running – and Jack will learn so much from him. With Theo and Santi on the wing and OG to bounce balls of you can see him doing well at the mighty red and white.

Yes, Prince I am getting excited but it needs to be Ozifficial first hahaha.

  143. Highbury Harmony says:

Prince, he can use his right, but he does almost everything exclusively with his left.

  144. TotalArsenal says:

AFC – yes that would make sense 🙂

  145. AFC says:

Prince, Ozil can play on either flank as well as AM. He can even play as a CM if needed. He can actually cross the ball as well.

  146. Highbury Harmony says:

TA, Ozil will become the focus of our offense, I have no doubt about that. He has the ability to drive the game forward from a central position better than Santi, while having more efficiency than Jack in dribbling and giving an offense shape.

  147. Prince says:

The reason why i ask, HH, assuming that he is ours 😉 is, who will cover the left flank, in the absence of Poldi and Ox? Do we continue to use Santi out there where he likes to cut in, or do we use Ozil and create some width. Maybe he prefers the left of midfield but never got it his way with ladyboy in the side.

  148. Highbury Harmony says:

Behind the ST, it’ll be Santi-Ozil-Walcott.

  149. Highbury Harmony says:

Santi’s more effective in a wide position where he can drift in. Ozil can easily move out wide within a game to fill the hole though. Ozil’s pace is pretty outstanding for a CAM and he moves like you’d expect a winger too. Not as fast as Ox or Theo, I’d compare him to Jack (at his best speed, maybe even faster than that).

  150. TotalArsenal says:

Also great news for Gnabry and Eis-Eis-Baby, if it goes ahead.

  151. TotalArsenal says:

HH – hope you are putting all these fine points in your post as we speak 😉

  152. Highbury Harmony says:

Ozil’s touch is simply out of this world. I remember watching Real vs. Chelsea two years ago and seeing him take a long ball down with his foot and the ball basically being like glue on his shoe and he went in one motion from bringing it down to dragging it behind his other leg and around Cole.

None of us have seen anything like that since Ronaldo left for Real.

  153. Prince says:

HH, in regards to tactics and set up, what i have noticed at Arsenal l;ately is that everybody plays everywhere. I saw Rosa at DM, Ramsey at LW, this current side does more running then any other Arsenal side in recent years. Total football? Not quite there yet, but you can see its what we are aiming for with two main axis in the team- Ollie up front and Merts at the back

  154. Prince says:

One thing though gents, we may never know, but dont you feel we could have got these talents much much cheaper had we moved earlier?
I still believe that Reus at 17mil was the steal of the century. (again just my opinion)

  155. Highbury Harmony says:

I agree Prince that OG and Per are the two axis – the two parts that don’t really move LOL. But yes, those two are our less glamorous players that simply know how to get the job done. They bring balance to the rest of our starters and slow down the game when we need it to be slowed down.

Santi-Ozil-Theo will be an attacking three of interchanging parts and I expect some exquisite link-up play on the left between Santi and Ozil!

  156. AFC says:

So is HH writing a mini post on Ozil. I have written my mini post(s) on Sanogo and Flamini. TA, should we combine our posts?

  157. Highbury Harmony says:

Prince, no offense to Reus (you all know I love him to death as a player), but he’s not in the same class as Ozil.

9 goals and 13 assists in 2,022 minutes played in La Liga last year, 2nd in assists in the table only after Iniesta, 24 big chances created and 22.1 mins/key pass. Oh and he led La Liga in assists in 2011/12 and came 2nd again in 2010/11 only to Messi.

    Absolute class.

  158. Prince says:

Demba Ba on loan is gathering pace.

Where is this parrrrty? Glic where are your lezbian friends? 🙂

  159. Gerry says:

Marcus – Great review, but when you put numbers on performances it is a bit too clinical in my view? Which is why you get people begging to differ.

I wasn’t going to be drawn on opinions until I saw the match, which I did at 6.0am, Teamwise, I thought we won the match hands down. Individual performances are a little more tricky to separate, as nobody had a poor game. Apart from may be Jack, but with good reason it seems? It was nearly 25 minutes before I saw Jack do anything, then for the next 20 minutes he did get involved in a couple of good moves … but just as suddenly he was off.

Enter Le Flambeau 🙂 During the remaining few minutes of the first half, it might have looked like he had not played since last May. The second half showed how much experience he has gained over the years? I was not just impressed by his urgings and leadership, but more so by the positions he took up. If you watch him closely, he always seemed to know where the obvious pass was going, and placed himself just at the right angle to block it out. Now this is basic stuff, and you see a lot more of it at youth team level. The trouble is, in the heat of battle many a player forgets the basics just concentrating on who is in front of them? Le Flam showed it is not all about last ditch tackles that frustrate the opposition, as much as not being able to make the pass they want to. As you have repeated since Marcus, he will only get better 😀

Before I saw the game I read Arsenal-by Numbers bit on Arseblog, and the player that stood out there was Koscielny It is not often a player can go 90 odd minutes and not make any mistakes, and in Kos’s position that is priceless. He has to be a contender for MOTM?

Ramsey, to do what he did and show no ill effects from his groin strain 5 days earlier, say as much for his constitution as it does for his commitment. Perhaps not his best game regards to choices made with passes, but gets a highly commended.

Per Mertersacker, along with Kos, makes this partnership so more than the sum of their different styles. Another with a top performance.

Santi was brilliant, and still had energy at the end to run with the ball. Right up there in the mix for MOTM.

However, there were two players who made a difference to the scoreline at kick off. SZCZ, whomade a superb save towards the end, and not many could have blamed him, if, after taking a sharp deflection inside the box, it had rocketed in to the back of the net? Too easy to say that what he is there to do, when calls for him to be replaced because he is not a top class keeper. That save was one of a top class keeper in my book, and deserves to be short-listed for MOTM.

Giroud though, he made the difference at other end. I still think he might have been setting himself up for a rare, right-footed shot, but the instant he reached the ball he knew his left was a better option …. Szcz might have saved that 😆 … But for shere effort all around the pitch, he just edges it for me.

Walcott could have been more committed when clear on Loris a couple of times, but was always a threat. Gibbs was also struggling to cover two people when left to it, but he kept at it. I am pretty sure that both he and Ramsey will welcome this break, as both looked to be feeling their hamstrings near the end? Rosicky did a professional job in his passing and drive, but against a more defensive minded team it was hard going. Doesn’t do poor games though, and this was by no means a bad one.

The one player on the pitch who I though did have a poor game was Vertonghen? He either looked like he did not have much confidence in his team mates, or did not fancy the game full stop …. Perhaps he should do less talking before the game, and let his actions speak louder? 😀

  160. Dylan says:

This Ba stuff must be a lie. Wenger already said he’s too close to Giroud. I’d rather give Hernandez a chance than Ba.

  161. jgc says:

    TA et al

    1. I’d be surprised if Cesc went to ManU without us getting a look-in (and biting!.. sorry, couldnt resist) … I think itonly happens if the clauses we *think* are in his sale aren’t actually there.

    2. No confirmation link I can see, but I also note an article (that wont load damnit) saying we gave the worlds best striker his release. HH that should free us up for Messi at #2?? 🙂

    cheers — jgc

  162. Prince says:

Dylan, we are only ever going to start with one striker in any given game. We need a replacement for Giroud should he be unavailable/injured. Considering its a loan, if Wenger cant get his first choice maybe Ba is a stop gap and in January or next summer when Suarez goes to Real, thats when we will snap up KARIM 😀

  163. VCC says:

    HH 13:42.

    That would be Ozilicious.

  164. Dylan says:

Maybe Prince. But I’d still rather try to get Hernandez. 😉 He’s quick, young, and full of potential. Then we could bring Karim in next summer or in January and have 3 strikers (which is ideal in my opinion, although I guess if we had Ba for one year and you count Sanogo that’s 3). 😉

  165. TotalArsenal says:

AFC – yes he is but only if it is confirmed. Yours should be an Arsenal TW summer summary – if that is okay with you (as per yesterday’s comments)? I want to issue a quick new post every time a new signing is confirmed today.

  166. AFC says:

    TA, that’s fine. 🙂

  167. Prince says:

    Jgc,
I’ll kidnap and make Bendtner go missing for 1.5m.

  168. TotalArsenal says:

    Out for a bit chaps.

  169. Prince says:

That’ll get me a nice studio in London, and id be sorted for season Tickets 🙂

  170. oz gunner says:

Ozil is a massive get, very pleased.i remember arsene making a play for him before he went to Madrid (he was immense in that World Cup)

@ Dylan, you cheating sod playing as an international team in FIFA.it’s arsenal or bust for me.i’ve won divisions 1 titles with them so no need for the overrated players.

  171. jgc says:

    Prince,

Well that’s AW for you, always spending more on a less efficient option! 😀

    cheers — jgc

  172. jgc says:

    All

On a positive note, as we wait endlessly, about NB … At the end of last season many were saying we had 6-8 “deadwood” who would never make it and hoped that at least 3-4 would go. Seems to me they are all gone now? Most for good and 1-2 projects on loan…

That in itself is good work, now to keep waiting for the gap filler, hopefully not from the discount special rack!

    cheers — jgc

  173. Prince says:

Oz, you gonna stick around or wake up to the good news?

  174. James Bond says:

MO is in the bag – if you want official confirmation then after 4 today on the website.

if things go well then we will have one of the Double D’s soon.

re- BA – he might not be everyone’s cuppa but for 1.5 to 2 million on a loan deal, not bad – Chelsea want 3.

i still reckon, plenty of time for JW and TW to be in touch with WR, do what Poldi did re- MO.

best bit of business in the summer ?

Real Madrid getting Spuds best player – and then selling their 2nd best player to Arsenal – in short middle finger to Tottenham and guess what ? RM haven’t sold or loaned any players to spuds either ahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahah (they are supposed to be PARTNERS) ahahahahahahahahhahahah

get Modric one year, and Bale the next in return for a massive middle finger

    muhahahahahahhaahahahahhahahahahahahahah

  175. oz gunner says:

Probably wake up.what time does it finish (our time?) too much tension and half truths for me.3 months crammed into a few hours = nightmare

  176. Prince says:

Your right Jgc. He did very well clearing the deadwood, but many will argue that it was he himself who brought in that deadwood, which is also true. I still cant get my head around Park, and i was one of the first to call it a marketing ploy for shirt sales and revenue in Asia, but even that made no sense considering the bloke has two left feet and couldnt play.

  177. oz gunner says:

It’d take ba in a second.if Giroud goes down we don’t need to alter our tactics much. On form he’s a real handful!

  178. AFC says:

JB, do you see us going for Di Maria? He is the best traditional winger in the world and would be available for a good price and would know Ozil however we would be overstocked with options for the ‘3’ behind our ST.

Let’s hope PSG do not hijack this deal. Wenger get it done!

  179. Dylan says:

JB, MO done? Great! 🙂 Is there a real chance of WR?

  180. Prince says:

3 months crammed into a few hours is so true Oz. I think it finishes 11pm BST. So about 8am here in Sydney, 6am Perth ? I dont know dude, like you said nightmare. Ive got six different tabs open trying to analyse all the bullshit from the truth. haha

  181. oz gunner says:

Di Maria would make the Jesus deal laughable. Keep going arsene, I can see the trophies coming closer!

  182. Dylan says:

Oz, ahahahahahahahahahahahaha I only have played for a few days! 😉

  183. oz gunner says:

6,beautiful prince.i’ll have my mobile on me at work then.if we sign a few I’ll float around the joint

  184. oz gunner says:

Not good enough Dylan, I’ll be contacting FIFA and arsene informing them of your fraudulence 🙂

  185. jgc says:

    Prince (and TA),

Interesting point he brought them in. Would be an interesting post for a JB or HH (Hint: TA) to go through say 10 years of transfers (incoming only) and rank/score them on:

    a. Incoming look/potential – based on analysis and fan feeling
    b. What happened.

I say this as DB himself was highly regarded but not necessarily considered the best deal at all, same for Henry… Equally, Santos had the look, for one example, and MB for another, of being really great.. Finally, Arteta was a sort of “he’s ok/good but …”

I say this because what we feel now sometimes becomes what we think we felt all the time.. Which may not be true.. Something for the interlull perhaps ??

    cheers — jgc

  186. Prince says:

Fantastic Jgc. I wasnt happy when we signed Titi. However, i was over the moon when we signed Davor Suker from Real Madrid. Even at his age, he still won the golden boot at the 98 World cup etc Anyway, one went on to become the King of Highbury and the other one went to West Ham or Derby, both.
It would make a great post. We can relieve Denilson through to Ozil all over again. Yay 🙂

  187. James Bond says:

i note how HH has ranked cesc above Ozil ? i know it’s his ranking but erm :

    Assists in last three seasons:

    Ozil for Madrid/Germany: 94

    Fabregas for Barca/Arsenal/Spain: 49

if anyone isn’t happy about MO signing then i’m sorry, you never will be even if we got Messi – Ozil stats suggest that not only is he better than Cesc but also Iniesta

this fella will win us the league – i am confident

re- him being able to use both feet ? erm , his right foot is as good as Poldi’s (hope you all get the drift).

    Bale 100 million euros – Aged 24

    Ozil 50 million euros – Aged 24

Arsenal laughing all the way ahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha

  188. James Bond says:

AFC – Work in progress, i did say 3 in the pipeline

the BA one is the contingency plan @ Dylan, that is all i can tell you at the moment, we got bigger fish to fry.

JGC, that would make for a fine fine post, AW’s last 10 years in the transfer market, however, the last 6/7 sounds better – after the departure of David Dein i reckon.

  189. Marcus says:

Signing Ozil is fantastic, one of the best in the world in his position. I think signing Di Maria and a striker (NOT Demba Ba) is a bit more urgent. In fact if he can close his dealings (on top of Viviano and Ozil) with one of Jackson Martinez/Roo/Benzema/Michu/Suarez and Di Maria, we can compete for honors, beginning the next game.

  190. Dylan says:

I reckon people shouldn’t worry that Cesc won’t come back if we get Ozil. Rosicky is likely to be done playing after this/next season. That would mean we could have Cesc/Ozil for AM and Santi at LW. 🙂
Oz, noooooo don’t tell Arsene! 😉 hahahaha tell him of my legendary career mode skills instead! 😉 Oh, and tell him us signing Di Maria, Draxler, Ozil, and a quality ST/CF (Rooney) makes us treble contenders! 😉

  191. Gerry says:

    Hi guys, exciting times eh?.

You may have missed my post last night, as I missed the ‘new post’ marker JB, and you’re keeping my hopes alive with ‘bigger fish’ … Would that be further up the alphabet than ‘B’ then?

No names, just a : 😉 will do?

  192. Gerry says:

Oh, and not on Dylan’s list?

  193. Gerry says:

    Sorry, Marcus’s list

  194. Gerry says:

Paying off the Bendtner boy doesn’t open up any extra spaces on our squad list, only free’s up big wages?

  195. Prince says:

😯 ZIL to wear the number 11 at AFC

  196. James Bond says:

ah, yes, missed all your lovely gems from last night @ Gerry

indeed, it was hard not being able to share it with all of you, but i did give you enough to make up for it, it was made even that much more harder when 17HT kept enticing and tempting me with the martini’s ahahahhaahahah

how about i tell you that liverFOOL are going to be very very busy in the transfer market, they have already had a bid of mata rejected (30 million)….

    🙂

  197. Prince says:

    Walter M. Straten
    # Arsenal verkündet’s in einer Stunde öziell: Özil wechselt nach London! In BILD mehr Hintergründe

  198. James Bond says:

what does it mean @ Prince

  199. Prince says:

To be announced officially within the hour.
Reports from leading German paper Bild

  200. James Bond says:

ah ok, i said it after 4 – but it will be slightly longer than an hour till it’s official , it’s done though and in the bag

the hold up is from the lawyers….

personal terms 150 k p/w with bonuses and so on.

no worries on that one, we can write a first article/post on Ozil

and the video Prince posted of Ozil, note how many goals he set up on a plate for Ronaldo – let’s see how many goals Ronaldo scores without Ozil.

  201. Highbury Harmony says:

JB, when the hell did I rank Cesc above Ozil. Get your reading classes out mate.

  202. Highbury Harmony says:

In fact, I’ve done nothing but reiterate over the last couple days that Ozil is better than Cesc…

  203. James Bond says:

people are wondering why Jose wants to Sell Mata ?

hmmmm, guess who’s Mata’s best friend ? it’s a bloke who captains the spanish team is your hint.

  204. James Bond says:

    HH @ 13:15

or was that in no particular order ?

no no, i know you rate him highly but was slightly surprised by the 10 top list in that order, i’m glad we are on the same page here !

i’m looking forward to the report/post you’re doing on Ozil 🙂

  205. Highbury Harmony says:

JB, that was my ranking of my top 10 favourite players in no particular order. Nothing to do with who’s better as you can see Messi was like 6th on that list…

  206. James Bond says:

i’ll be honest, i only looked at the top 5 and started writing my comment, ahahahahahah

yeah, i’m excited as all of you but yeah my bad –

Viviano is a decent keeper .

  207. James Bond says:

back to Gerry’s fine mini analysis on yesterday’s game ,

agreed with everything but to add to it ,

notice how he was practicing during the half time interval, was vocal, and that tackle he put in, that’s what we need – wasn’t a yellow card in my opinion, was a great timed tackle

even after the game was won, you could see his presence and how he was celebrating, i’m very happy we got someone who has the passion and knows what the Derby means.

as opposed to spuds, their midfield – utterly one dimensional and bland – yuck

also worth noting, Sagna broke his leg at WHL , got booed and spat at by their supporters – that’s what you call $cums ?

where as, Capoue did the same and we were absolutely terrific, gave him a round of applause (ok, i didn’t but don’t tell anyone) – that’s what you call class

  208. Highbury Harmony says:

Top 5 playmakers in the world:

    1. Iniesta
    2. Ozil
    3. Xavi
    4. Fabregas
    5. Silva

    HM: Sneijder

  209. James Bond says:

brilliant list and order – agreed, however, i’m biased so i’m gonna swap Silva with Santi (if you don’t mind 😉

here comes a gem from the beeb, enjoy it and laugh at their misery.

Tony Spain in Kent via 81111: Mesut Ozil is a world class player – probably the best player to move to the Premier League this summer. As a Manchester United fan I am very worried as we have been left way behind as all close competition have strengthened with quality from the continent. Will Marouane Fellaini redress the gap? Not a hope.

    muhahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahha

  210. AFC says:

HH, Pirlo best deep lying playmaker. 😉

  211. Highbury Harmony says:

Mesut Ozil will also be the 2nd biggest fee paid for a player in the British Premier League.

JB, Silva created a key pass every 24.2 mins, 2nd best in the world after Ozil last year and suffice to say, Silva had an off year last season.

  212. Highbury Harmony says:

Agreed AFC, but this was a general playmaker list – difficult to include Pirlo as he plays deeper and his contributions do not always translate to direct statistics.

  213. AFC says:

Viviano deal confirmed by Palermo president. Why are they so willing to let him go?

  214. AFC says:

    I know HH. 🙂

Wonder why United haven’t gone for Pirlo. 😀

  215. James Bond says:

    i’m biased @ HH

you should be a little biased as well sometimes 😉

  216. James Bond says:

    AFC,

the QPR situation at Palermo – wage bill, players not wanting to stay hence you see.

  217. Highbury Harmony says:

AFC, Palermo plays in Serie B. There’s no chance they could keep him playing down there as he’s a top 30-40 GK in the world.

  218. AFC says:

    Thanks for that, JB. 🙂

I thought we was getting another Bendtner.

  219. Highbury Harmony says:

Sanogo, Flamini, Ozil, Viviano and Ba. That would be the best TW in the history of our club! Well, Ozil alone makes it the best 😉

  220. AFC says:

Thanks HH. 🙂 Seems we are getting a good GK then. So Fabianski should be sold or loaned out?

  221. For time being… an interesting tweet….

  222. for time being… an interesting tweet…

  223. Highbury Harmony says:

AFC, Fab/Ches are fairly injury prone. I think AW will keep all three until January at least. Maybe sell or loan Fab then if Ches/Viviano establish themselves as the top tandem.

  224. Gerry says:

JB – this was the comment from yesterday:

Never mind the statue JB, you’ll be invited to the Palace to collect your knighthood : D 😀 😀

That would be for services rendered in keeping this blog sane 😆

  225. James Bond says:

much much appreciated @ Gerry – Gracias 🙂

i must confess, the sound of Sir.Bond sounds rather posh ahahahahahhaahh

here comes a gem from the beeb :

Former Wales international Robbie Savage on Transfer Deadline Day Live
    MESUT OZIL REACTION
“I think Mesut Ozil will be a terrific signing for Arsenal, but they need a centre-forward. I am surprised Manchester United have not gone for him, he would have been the perfect fit for them.

“I am not convinced Chelsea will loan Demba Ba to a Premier League rival, like Arsenal.”

Robbie S : you don’t know what you’re talking about – sod off.

    Gunner Ever,

nice nice nice – i likes 😉 but hey, the transfer window doesn’t shut for another 6 hours .

  226. Dylan says:

People doubting Ba would be loaned to a big PL rival like Arsenal. Do they not remember Benayoun?

  227. James Bond says:

    Dylan,

that was done to weaken a rival instead with the intention of strengthening 😉

no worries, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about – BA wants to come to Arsenal.

but like i said – we are trying and trying for bigger fish, next 3 hours will be very interesting.

  228. Dylan says:

Gunner ever, that just shows what I’ve been saying, a CB/RB would be appreciated to give us two full line ups. Any news on Richards, JB? Huh, huh? I know you want to tell us.

  229. Prince says:

    honigstein
Özil’s wage demands the main reason why other clubs didn’t bite, I believe. Will be close to 200k once add-ons etc are factored in

  230. Sky Italia reporter @DiMarzio, says: “Update on @EmilianoViviano: medical ok with @Arsenal, now he’signing the contract. Loan and option to buy at €6M next year”

  231. Viviano name not listed in palermo’s official website…
    http://palermocalcio.it/en/1314/squadra/

  232. AFC says:

Apparently we have made a enquiry about Pastore.

It seems that Wenger is in for another winger. Di Maria would do me. But then where will Rosicky play. Maybe he will be moved back to play next to Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey, Flamini etc.

  233. Prince says:

DONE DEAL: Vitesse Arnhem have signed Chelsea full-back Sam Hutchinson on a season-long loan. 😆 you all got excited haha

  234. My fingers burn out because of keep on pressing F5 in ————-
    http://www.arsenal.com/home

  235. Gerry says:

Excuse me, but the whole point of a loan deal, as opposed to a purchase, is that they player cannot play against it parent club. In effect any wins gained by another club means they are only damaging rivals.

Mind that is also true with actual transfers. If they take maximum point of you(the selling club), then they are just as likely to take maximum points off your nearest rivals. So unless you have a chance of winning the title(which you don’t, Liverpool!) then all your other rivals are worse off …

… so sell us Suarez , and let us knock out Tottenham(halfway there), ManU, Chelsea, and Man C, and you have a half decent chance of finishing … err 4th?

  236. Highbury Harmony says:

For Christ’s sake, let’s make the Ozil deal official!!!

  237. Gerry says:

    6.0pm HH

  238. AFC says:

HH, reports saying the deal will be announced at 6pm London time. About an 1 hour wait. Come on!

  239. Prince says:

HH, he is doing a video shoot in Allianz arena with adidas and some German internationals. It might take another half hour for announcement.

  240. Gerry says:

JB – about those bigger fish … and which end of the alphabet, or perhaps in the middle?

  241. Prince says:

    Robin Hackett, ESPN FC staff
Dermot Corrigan gives us an update via @As_TomasRoncero — a well-connected Real Madrid journalist — revealing that Ozil’s Bernabeu exit is the result of the player’s own desire. Roncero wrote: “Mesut is going to Arsenal. A pity. We will miss him. But they tell me that the will to leave was his own. Against this nothing can be done.”

  242. 17highburyterrace says:

Hey boys…New avatar if not a statue for our guy with the sauce…Is the best part of the torture when it stops? The relief of it all?…

Yesterday’s result bought us some breathing room and confirmed that our skeleton squad possesses a true team spirit. And today we add new bodies, who, hopefully can feel that spirit and join in. In an era of player hoarding by silly money teams we are (maybe) taking an opposite tack. I like it…No, I love it. Support for Wenger will only be confirmed by results, but I think we’re getting towards a squad that can deliver…

Anyhow, there’s a lot to discuss. The glory of Messy. Yes! We (could and we) did buy Messy!! OK, it’s not Messi, but this is a signing of quality so far beyond my expectations that the torture may have been worth it. I truly believe that if Real Madrid had had the nerve to run their offense through Ozil they would have won the CL at least one of the two past years. Instead, trying to play Mourinho-ball (or should I say, “space-control”) and lay hopes on the grease-ball (C-Ron) to score on the break was the choice, and it left a lot of really solid players (at least somewhat) out in the cold.

I’m speaking in absolutes here, and, of course, Messy did a lot against the lesser teams who tried to park the bus and in the tougher matches too. The overall approach, however, which I think RM is continuing with the purchase of Bale, is to try and match the one (or now, two) man approach to scoring that Barca employ with Messi (with Neymar now added). When teams sit back they can now use almost anybody to try and open defenses along the top of the box while being completely content to fall over given the FK abilities they will now possess from both sides. Both clubs are iffier at the back, so double pivots and tiki-taka are the methods for controlling things…

Anyhow, enough (for the moment… 😆 ) about Messy and the Spanish league he leaves behind. This is a big day–on the heels of a big (if somewhat fortunate) result that deserves more discussion as well. US football (soccer) coverage is in transition so (it appears) we’re not getting any of the Sky Sports TDD coverage…Please keep me abreast (heh, heh) of the action…

    Cheers! 😀

  243. James Bond says:

    give it another 3 – 4 hours ,

if it doesn’t start leaking then we will have to make do with BA and the “big fish” on hold till January.

we already got 2 out of the 4 in the open .

and we might be hearing a double announcement very shortly.

  244. Dylan says:

JB, I’m assuming the 2 is Ozil and Viviano? Neither of the double D’s included yet?

  245. James Bond says:

    ahahahhahahaahaahahahha @ 17HT

loving your new Avatar – and Gracias 🙂

but hey, things are only just picking up –

i’m disappointed why we haven’t published more posts @ TA – one on Ozil was in order hours ago ! but no worries, we need something for the 2 week international lull as well, so maybe we can make full use of the international break to keep us going !

  246. James Bond says:

    Dylan,

would you believe me if, i told you that there was a 40 million offer on the table for Schalke for the D ? it’s still valid and hasn’t been withdrawn – the D is reluctant to leave.

not sure i could be any more clearer than that – but yes, you heard it right , another 40 million offer is very much on the table, Schalke are doing a LiverFOOL wanting closer to 55-60 or cash + our Poldi

  247. Frozen Gunner says:

draxler and ozil? loan em poldi for fuck sake. that is simply unfathomable..

if the kid has any sort of head on his shoulders he’d be wise to sign the dotted line, and FAST

  248. TotalArsenal says:

you write something then, JB – disappointed my Arse! 😦

  249. Dylan says:

JB, but what about the clause? I thought Schalke couldn’t say no?

  250. James Bond says:

    FG,

trying to persuade Draxler to leave is like trying to persuade our own JW to leave arsenal, it’s not easy – the kid is refusing to budge even though we have met his release clause but we are powerless if the player doesn’t want to come nor the club want to sell.

the only way we can get him is by doing what they want us to do – which i think is very unlikely now – but you never know ?

    TA,

remember i told you at the start of the season, when there was doom and gloom that if, by the end of the TW , AW doesn’t deliver the goods and make us all happy then i would write my maiden post for BK ? well guess what, that done the trick and you can kiss my maiden post good bye now ahahahhahhahahahahahaahahahahahahhaha

  251. Prince says:

    Draxler deal is DEAD!!

If that deal goes through, i will erect a statue of Ronald McDonald and dedicate my life to BBQ sauce

  252. 17highburyterrace says:

Thanks Bond…the next thing I was gonna ask about was Draxler since I saw zero comments about him in all my catch-up reading…

With Poldi hurt and with (IMO) having “movement issues” during his entire Arsenal tenure, I worry for his future at our club. He will no longer be our highest paid player, but if Schalke wanted to take over those costs whilst giving us a SQ talent to meld with our up and coming Brit-pack, I wouldn’t say no. The similarly lengthy absence of Ox-Cham also seems a factor here…

Prince should note that my avatar contains Bond (the one and only Bond, IMO: Sean Connery…) with a Cognac, not his usual sauce (the martini)…in honor of PPPs drink of choice during the derby yesterday…

    😀

  253. Fozzie B says:

Hello transfer tottnumb thumping trannies!! Wocka wocka baby!!

  254. Prince says:

PSG gonna make a move for Mata, after realising that a late swoop (yep, the bastards wanted to screw us) for Ozil would have materialised to nothing. Talks are too far advanced!!

  255. James Bond says:

ah, Dylan, this is how it works

    Scenario 1 :

    Release clause figure met :

you get talking to the player/ permission granted :

player says “yes” – you get the player, regardless if the club say “no”

    Scenario 2 :

    Release clause figure met :

you’re given permission to speak to the player and his reps :

player says “no” – it’s a no go , club also not keen on selling.

    Scenario 3 :

    make an offer :

    player not keen on leaving.

Club not bothered to sell but will sell at a premium or twice the players worth – club rub their hands and accept a 50 million plus offer !

player has no choice and is sold.

in Schalke’s case, they will only sell if either D says i’m going , you can’t keep me as release clause figure is met and i am happy with the personal terms or if the club is willing to tango which they are not – mind you, they are struggling, only just won their first game of the season this saturday .

if i was D, i would be joining my amigos at the emirates, worth noting that i think D is going to be taking over from Poldi in the German team – in the near future

  256. 17highburyterrace says:

Nice Avatar Fozzie!! Kermit the Ozil!

In my catch up reading you said something about yesterday’s match that I really liked…Unfortunately I can’t remember what it was 😆

  257. Prince says:

17, i dont believe a mans’ drink should be shaken or stirred

  258. Fozzie B says:

I have changed my avatar to welcome the arrival of our slippery new compadre!! I’ve been at the waterpark all day and have been “flame” grilled much like spuds by The Flame and JB’s special sauces!! I managed to shove to pints down my neck before the bus and found myself singing arsenal songs on the way back! Luckily Kermit the chav was still in bits after animals frog leg drum session in the cell. Trust me that guy cannot be messed with when he goes karate kid crazy!! There were no spuds on the bus, although they may have got eaten in the cafe!! Wenger French fries and hen fried I JB’s secret sauces is the best baby yeahya!! 😆

  259. AFC says:

    Mata holding talks with PSG…

  260. Dylan says:

JB, with Ozil coming to the Emirates I could see Draxler moving to a team that is going to have very strong ties to the German team now, and in the future (Gnabry, Eisfeld, etc).

  261. 17highburyterrace says:

Gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, Prince 😆 Sometimes the clear liquors are better for the following morning… Besides, the missus (who enjoys inky red wine… 🙄 ) doesn’t go in for the brown liquor I favor (Scotch whisky…) so if I’m shaking (or stirring–a gimlet, if I’ve got limes at hand rather than olives) certainly I’ll have a dram (or two) myself…

Still over the moon on yesterday’s result (a real bacon-saver, I still believe…) and the idea of Ozil at Arsenal…

Too early here, however for anything more than (another) espresso… 😀

  262. Fozzie B says:

Thanks 17h, maybe it was praising Glic for his new remodelled isco tatoo!! The o around his winky also doubling up as stevey b eyeliner!! 😀

  263. Prince says:

    Scenario 3 :
    make an offer :
    player not keen on leaving.
Club not bothered to sell but will sell at a premium or twice the players worth – club rub their hands and accept a 50 million plus offer !
player has no choice and is sold.

    JB,
Can you explain scenario 3 to me please. It may be im a little daft. If a player is under contractt with a club and does not want to be moved or sold, you say the player in question has no choice?

Am i missing something here? eg (theoretiaclly speaking) Fabregas has 4 yrs on his contract with Barca. Manure want to sign the player and offer a huge transfer fees and match his wages. What your saying is that Fabregas in this scenario has no choice but to move??

Sorry, but am i missing a trick. This is not at all possible, but you suggest otherwise. hmmmm

  264. James Bond says:

hope you got your answers @ 17HT , Re- D

ah, Fozzie B is in da house !!! 🙂

Dylan : like i said, if we fail to bring in the “bigger fish” then that means we wait for another 3 months – that’s all

also, let me share something out of the blue here, suppose Suarez ends up staying at LiverFOOL – come end of December, he goes to X Y Z , any team in the CL -, he is eligible to play in the champs league once the registration opens on the 1st of January.

  265. Prince says:

Furry muff 17….err, i mean ‘fair enough 17’, if you want to keep ‘shaking your ting’, who am i to judge you. 😆

I always though ‘espresso’ was innuendo for some personal choice of poison. I realise now that it is possible, that people do actually like drinking alot of coffee…..stirred of course 😀

  266. Prince says:

    _ Z_L

Can i buy a vowel please?

  267. AFC says:

    Viviano signed on loan!

  268. James Bond says:

    sure, Prince

    clubs are like employers –

just like players often force their way out of clubs, the clubs can do the same and even better as they are employers and like companies/organizations, players are the assets – meaning that if, they get a nice profit out of selling a player then they will do that (note, how some clubs in the past and now continue to do it) – player doesn’t have a say as all the powers vest with the club –

the Cesc Scenario is this : if Barca say yes, we will take the 30 million and you can have Cesc, then yes, Cesc will have to leave – why would you want to stay somewhere , where you’re not needed anymore ? you can’t go on a strike and say, nah, i got a 4 year legal binding contract here and i refuse to leave my home town – the player is owned 100% by the club and they can sell/loan e.t.c to whoever and whenever they want as per my understanding, unless there are 3rd party ownership issues, branding issues, sponsorship’s paying your salaries (much like what man utd do), they get large chunks of the player wages paid by (nike) sponsors and so on, they use their partners for such things as do Real Madrid

to sum it up in one line, the player is under contract at the club – and the club can do as they want, take Peter Odemwinge as an example …. the club didn’t want to sell but he was keen on leaving, so much so that he arrived at QPR without the clubs blessing – what happened next, we all know.

the buck stops at the club – unless a player buys himself out + the remainder of his contract.

  269. Prince says:

YAY, we upgraded from one Eye-talian keeper to another Eye-talian keeper

  270. AFC says:

Prince, Viviano signed on season long loan with the option for a permanent deal.

  271. Prince says:

Your so wrong JB. Dont embarass yourself. If a player doesnt want to leave and club/ employer want him out, the club/employer have to pay the remaining contract out…. Those players who choose not to move and rather abide by their legal documentation called a ‘contract’ are then known as ‘DEADWOOD’.. Sorry JB, your arguement has more holes in it then the swiss cheese i am eating

  272. Prince says:

“why would you want to stay somewhere , where you’re not needed anymore ? you can’t go on a strike and say, nah, i got a 4 year legal binding contract here and i refuse to leave my home town”

Oh yeah, thats why we had no trouble in getting rid of Denilson, Chamack, oh and Bendtner is STILL with us

  273. TotalArsenal says:

JB you are right that we are getting the signings now and better late than never. Why you refuse to write a post is still beyond me though, given your insider knowledge and fine command of the English language… 😕

  274. Prince says:

Didnt AC Milan agree with Shitty on Tevez. Yep, transfer agreed and Tevez ‘the employee’ said f**k you all, im staying.

  275. Highbury Harmony says:

    Apparently Ozil will make 130,000/week

  276. Dylan says:

Villa have just signed Libor Kozak. A striker seemingly in the mold of Benteke. Benteke to leave? Spurs reigniting interest? Or is this our “bigger fish”, JB? 🙂

  277. James Bond says:

as usual now we go on to a different tangent – YAWNS

from D /Cesc Scenario to the deadwood.

keep enjoying the cheese, once you’re done , we can discuss the “deadwood”.

  278. Prince says:

    honigstein
“Özil’s wage demands the main reason why other clubs didn’t bite, I believe. Will be close to 200k once add-ons etc are factored in”

HH, that was a tweet from Raphael Honingstein. I thought he was a respected journo and had great contacts in Germany and England. Where did you get 130,000/wk. Is Ozil taking a pay cut??

  279. AFC says:

HH, I heard Ozil will get paid 150k a week meanwhile talkSPORT said he will get paid around 200k a week including add ons. I don’t believe that though.

Why is has Ozil not be made official?

  280. Prince says:

FUCK YOU JB YOU NEVER EXPLAIN YOURSELF LIKE THE 12 yr OLD MUPPET KID THAT YOU ARE, THE MINUTE SOMEONE CHALLENGES YOU or WANTS TO DEBATE, and YOU REALISE YOUR WRONG THEN YOU NEVER REPLY TO MY ACTUAL POINTS.

FUCK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER FUCKING WANKER

Total, Now you can moderate me, ive fucken had enough of cockheads like him

To the rest of you good folk, good night and enjoy the season.

  281. AFC says:

Anyone know what shirt number Emiliano Viviano will get?

  282. James Bond says:

    TA,

no insider knowledge, i’m the same as you – besides not everyone’s a smooth and eloquent writer like yourself, HH, Dylan and all the other fine writers we have here.

it’s along the lines of 150 k p/w – have beaten both the mancs for our record transfer, only chelsea paid more 50 million but they ended up paying Torres 250k p/w approx

    Dylan,

Villa needed another striker – they got rid of Bent ?

  283. Fozzie B says:

I can’t wait for the next development!! In my heart of hearts I would like ratatouille to appear from under Wenger’s hat … But I would be happy to have benzene to be added to the flame!! Gonzo says the babaBoom is bigger from benzene than his namesake gonzalo!! I was like most of u happy to “get higgy with it” but like the benzene more and in a World Cup year it would be awesome to have both of France’s top strikers on our books. Not to help the french (kermit likes them too for some strange reason)but because they will both have a point to prove!! I guess shrek would also have more to gain in that regard!! I wouldn’t mind Ba as a stopgap if we were getting our number 1 target in jan or summer JB! 😀 JB you deserve a fair few drinks tonight if you can swing it on a scroll night!! 😀 😀

  284. James Bond says:

    Prince,

can you repeat yourself once more please, i really can’t read with the caps lock half on in the first paragraph and half off in the next – consistency is the way to go.

  285. AFC says:

Ozil will still not be enough. I would like to see another big name like Di Maria signed.

  286. Highbury Harmony says:

Prince, I read on goal (unreliable source of course) that Ozil will make 130k/week. I also saw on talkSport that he would make 150k/week. The add-ons are more like bonuses so I wouldn’t include that on the weekly wage figure. All we should care about (management that is) is the weekly wage figure and how that looks in respect to the rest of our wage structure.

  287. Highbury Harmony says:

Ozil is enough for me!!! Top 10 talent in world football today imho. Granted, we must remain injury free, but just think:

ST – Giroud, Ba (loan), Sanogo*
    LW – Cazorla, Podolski, Miyachi
    RW – Walcott, Chamberlain
    CAM – Ozil*, Rosicky
CM – Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Flamini*, Frimpong
    LB – Gibbs, Monreal
    CB – Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen
    RB – Sagna, Jenkinson
GK – Szczesny, Viviano (loan), Fabianski

  288. Dylan says:

JB, I don’t know. Bent wasn’t really used last season, so why this season? It was just a thought though.

  289. James Bond says:

    cheers mate @ FB!

AFC, jersey no.2 is available ? why are you so keen for the goalie’s shirt number though, surely has to be Ozil’s 😉

PS: TA , don’t moderate Prince, i like him , let him run wild, he’s a free spirit.

  290. Fozzie B says:

    Lol school night 😀

  291. Highbury Harmony says:

Viviano can choose between 18, 23 and 29, while he could also go above 31 if he wanted to.

  292. Highbury Harmony says:

I would like to see Ba take 18 and Viviano be 29. 29 seems like the number fit for a keeper’s shirt.

  293. James Bond says:

ah, i was gonna say the same thing and then i saw HH’s last comment – agreed fully but hey, the night is still young

    Dylan,

and see how well that nearly turned out for them ? nearly relegated but hey, LiverFOOL were interested in Benteke and if they get 40 million plus for a certain player than buying benteke for 25 million – not a problem.

  294. AFC says:

Thanks, guys. I guess we’ll have to wait to see which number he picks.

Sakho would have been a perfect addition but he’s gone to Liverpool. 😦

  295. Dylan says:

Now you’re talking JB. I knew there could be truth in my thoughts. 😉

  296. Fozzie B says:

Chill brother Princey!! 😀 you both have very good points to say, let’s enjoy what could be one of our best weekend and TW ending yet!! 😀 when a club offers enough to buyout the rest of a contract then yes they will go. …. Sadly some of the deadwood don’t get these large offers and they think screw it, lets smoke sheesha and comity traffic offences 😆 Ozil and more are coming to town and I’m on holiday = very very happy and messy fozzie b!! Peace my gunner cowgirls!! 😀

  297. AFC says:

The guys on talkSPORT seem to think Arsenal are delaying the confirmed transfer of Ozil so fans are just relieved and happy to get him while forgetting about other signings which must be made to improve our squad.

  298. James Bond says:

in addition to the numbers HH mentioned,

    i think these numbers are also available : 11, 2, 23 and18 @ AFC.

like i said, give it a few more hours @ Dylan – let’s see how it all pans out

but something to laugh at :

Spuds wanted Fabio Coentrao and RM said – Fcuk off

    muhahhahahahahahahaahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha

there is only one Daniel Levy – well go and kiss a hairy gorilla

  299. James Bond says:

    that’s not true @ AFC

soon you might see a certain granny shagger in the headlines – why blame him ? london has more prostitutes, no ?

    Prince,

come back and i will play with you, line by line i will have a nice and healthy discussion and debate , no problem sir.

we all need your positive energy today, don’t do this to us!

  300. AFC says:

    Gunner Ever, thanks. 🙂

  301. James Bond says:

    cheers for that, Gunner ever

    1 down,

    3 more to go.

  302. jgc says:

    Boys, boys….

    Good thing I’ve a 6 and 10 year old at home! 🙂 😛

Actually, I suspect and will leave it to JM or RA or Marcus (who seem the detailed legal eagles here) that it depends on the contract. If the contract says you get 10k pw to play football, I can:

    A. Sell that contract to another club to pay your 10k pw to play football. Tuff cookies. Keeping in mind that lesser teams rarely have the dosh to cover better teams wages.

    However, I cannot, likely:

    B. Make you wear a Kermit the Ozil costume outside the emirates and make you hawk sad eyed masks of the guy who replaced you (as it isn’t part of your terms unless your agent is an idiot)

Thus, in our best striker ever’s case (NB), we had to buy him out as no team would buy his full wages. That lets him go wherever his ego wants (another “issue” with him) without Arsenal having to arrange the subsidy and he team, which was just not working…

HOWEVER, even tho I can force you to go, I really won’t. Why? Cuz you’d just not play leaving the buyer very unhappy with me, the seller. Thus, you mostly see:

    1. Player sold for agreed price and has agreed to go (wants to or offered enuff dosh they don’t care). Thus, the only way, IMO, we get Draxler if release met is by offering massive wages so he says yes (presuming he’s that keen to see it out at Schalke which we should respect)

    2. Player unwanted and sold for price to team willing/able to:
    A. pay salary remaining at existing rate
    B. lay less salary with subsidy from seller to team to make it up
    C. Negotiate new terms player agrees to, thus nullifying prior contract with agreement of seller which may get you back to some subsidy (or not)

Add in third party rights and marketing deals, image rights and its a miracle anyone does anything!!

All IMO, and anything free, like this post, comes with no guarantee!!

    Cheers — jgc

  303. James Bond says:

    that is it @ JGC.

    well put and well done.

how much do you reckon Carlton cole will cost West ham ? (they let him go on a free and are in dire need of a striker) ahahahhaahhhaahahha

that’s a hilarious one, considering if they take him back since there is very little movement in that club.

PS: the release clause met and so on was meant to be an example for Dylan, was never intended to cloud the real discussion which it became in the end – it’s a non issue for today and not relevant as i much focus on “other” things.

  304. K guys… Its nearing 12.00 am here… time to hit the pillow… will see tomorrow with all smiles !!! 🙂

  305. James Bond says:

    see you later, Gunner Ever

take it easy and wake up with a big smile on your face as well cause we will we will rock you (Chelsea, $hity and utd) i meant !

    🙂

  306. 17highburyterrace says:

Geezus Bond, just when I decide to love and honor (honour?) you (with an avatar) you start up again with the Rooney talk. F**K Y*U 😆

Seriously though, that would seem complete suicide for Moyes…Please tell me that you are kidding…

Also, WTF am I gonna do with all this spilled cognac from your previous brouhaha?…

  307. Fozzie B says:

Amen my kiwi brethren! A kiwi tag team to settle the handbagging!! Kermit is a chav but has already commented on how handsome he finds ozil before. when i told him he was signing for us he proceeded to karate kid animal before poor animal knew what hit him!! but dont worry- i will ply animal with jäger bombs soon and chav Kermit will suffer again!! 😀

  308. jgc says:

    17ht

Lick the cognac off the table, it’s expensive and will allow you to pass the TW time “wisely”?

    Cheers — jgc

  309. AFC says:

    Bendtner seen at Palace…

  310. jgc says:

    Fozzie

Whom my iPads spell checker wants to call Fizzie, wel, thanks… I’m not totally sure what you meant but it was funny! 😀

    Good luck with the menagerie!

    Cheers — jgc

  311. jgc says:

    AFC

Amen… Another one who looked like huge potential and talent coming in and …

    Cheers — jgc

  312. James Bond says:

    ah, my apologies @ 17HT

in my defence, i never took his name directly but hey has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, the reason why Man Utd haven’t moved nice and early in the TW is because they got to sell in order to buy ? they are looking at 2 midfield players, both are close yet not close enough – they were both sort of on the market before today as well.

just saying, don’t be surprised if the news starts popping up shortly – it was meant more like a warning sign for you , as due to the timing difference, i don’t know what time you normally eat ; ) so beware and you have been warned !

  313. 17highburyterrace says:

I will JGC, using my Ozil the frog tongue to lap it up….

Ibra for Mata (with some cash one way or the other)…and Chelsea seem settled?…

Still wondering WTF United are thinking…but that it has to start with retaining Rooney, no?…

    Y’all ARE my sauces… 😯 Keep the truth flowing… 😆

  314. James Bond says:

Ander Herrera – 5 years at utd – done deal

    fellaini next –

and i much rather not say anymore, enjoy your drink 😉

  315. AFC says:

Surely transfer talks won’t break down with Ozil over wages. Wenger get this deal done!

  316. James Bond says:

by the way , Man utd are complete dorks – how can you keep Kagawa on the bench and not play him – that is beyond me really,

the lad was so keen on making an impression that he was doing double sessions after his injury to impress Moyes.

  317. James Bond says:

    relax AFC,

    it’s done it’s done.

suppose you wouldn’t fancy Kalou at arsenal ? would you ?

    only joking.

  318. Highbury Harmony says:

    #FreeShinji

  319. 17highburyterrace says:

Now I’m getting mad, but, having been warned, I won’t be eating again until 3 in the afternoon (11pm)… 👿

What’s funny about this (far-fetched) idea about the hair-weaver is that I think most United supporters actually despise Arsenal more than Chelsea, Pool and City. Beating down the Smirky Arsene-L is Fergie’s greatest legacy. Herrara, Fellaini in, Rooney out (and to us)?… Add that to yesterday’s result on Merseyside and Moyes has dug himself a might deep hole…

Not in a million years… (But still not gonna eat, just in case…)

  320. Highbury Harmony says:

Can we still sign Henry on loan if the Ozil deal falls through?

  321. 17highburyterrace says:

Shinji didn’t even make the bench yesterday… Now there’s a United player I would like speaking Japanese with A-dub…

To his credit, Moyes got himself a lengthy contract there—The managing version of Nicky B, he could turn out to be….

  322. AFC says:

HH, why not bring Henry in instead of Ba, or even in addition to Ba?

  323. AFC says:

Would we have enough time to sign Henry? Why not bring him on as well. An experienced player like Flamini who can add depth and offer help to our youth players. Henry as player coach might be a good thing for the club.

TalkSPORT have said the Ozil deal is done. He has signed a five year contract.

  324. AFC says:

Reports saying Ba has passed his medical. What’s going on with Di Maria?

  325. Highbury Harmony says:

LOL AFC, I was merely jesting after Bondy suggested that we look at Kalou 😉

  326. Highbury Harmony says:

TA, article is done. Simply waiting for official confirmation and for the exact numbers 🙂

  327. 17highburyterrace says:

AFC, believing what you hear on TalkSport seems the very definition of insanity…Still, this one (Ozil deal done) sounds good to me…

Henry on loan again? You guys are just imagining that one, right? Or has it actually been mooted by a “respected” media outlet…

Between my growling stomach and the headache I’m getting from the smoke around here and rolling my eyes at the various last minute ideas…it’s gonna be a rough few hours…

  328. AFC says:

Lukaku could be off to Everton.

HH, Why don’t we loan out Sanogo and bring Henry? That would make sense.

  329. AFC says:

17ht, talkSPORT are pretty reliable on the transfer front.

  330. 17highburyterrace says:

    Back on topic…Yesterday’s match…

How about a shout for the ref? Withing the first minutes he set the tone, allowing nothing but a corner for Kos’ inch perfect tackle on Spurs first run (a pen and yellow vs Villa…) and giving FKs at the other end as Sicky got taken down and a moment later leading to Santi’s very close, under the wall, roller… Overall, I thought (whoever it was…) did an excellent job…

Sorry for the interruption, carry on… 😀

  331. AFC says:

Spurs in for Ba as well according to reports. I can actually believe this one.

  332. James Bond says:

no, they are not reliable as such @ AFC and 17HT has a valid point (he usually does).

    but yeah, MO is done.

great @ HH, looking forward to your article already…if Glic was here, he be BOOING already , ha

  333. 17highburyterrace says:

Cheers AFC, I like confirmations… Maybe you shouldn’t, however, buy into all the anti-Arsenal talk on that network…Like Ozil is (was?) being delayed just to mask the other failures to strengthen the squad… 😉

Of course, WTF do I know? We don’t have TalkSport here let alone (the lovelies on) Sky this time around… As such, I’m in the dark but for what you guys tell me…

    😀

  334. James Bond says:

    *BOING even

  335. jgc says:

    17

Good point re the ref… Thought he was spot on really, and let the game flow as it would… Direct opposite to game 1… Here that ref was back ruining someone else’s day this week after a very short banishment… Amazing!

    Cheers — jgc

  336. TotalArsenal says:

OK HH, let’s get it out as soon as it is announced and the hits should go berserk!

  337. AFC says:

17ht, I know talkSPORT are anti arsenal. I didn’t say I agreed with the whole delay of the Ozil transfer thing. I was just putting it out there to see what you guys thought. 😀

  338. TotalArsenal says:

I bet Glic is hiding behind the SOFA hahahaha – the big pussy 😛

  339. James Bond says:

    gem from the beeb :

Tony Pulis, Former Stoke manager on BBC Radio 5 live
“Mesut Ozil will be a fantastic signing for Arsenal but it is a lot of money. He has made a statement, do they need an extra midfield signing? Arsene Wenger probably needs one or two at the back or up front as well.”

go and coach a ruby team – get out of here

we won’t let bendtener go , until and unless we get a striker in ourselves (lessons learned from the Gervinho deal).

  340. AFC says:

One report saying Bendtner has to wait until we sign a ST before he can leave. Wenger must have been serious about using him.

  341. James Bond says:

M.Oliver is a good young ref – needs to do more big games i reckon, certainly the top 3 ref’s currently in england, in my opinion and great point @ 17HT

  342. 17highburyterrace says:

JGC, indeed Taylor reffed Cardiff-Everton and didn’t give a very give-able pen that Baines (auditioning to outdo Evra at United…) manufactured… Also he was over-ruling his linesmen and otherwise very inconsistent with fouls and yellows and continuation. That said, both teams were shit (shite?) and nil-nil was just about the correct result…

I’m still angry for you over your pub switching away from the NLD in favor of mid-table Belgian football, being that it was your Birthday week…

    Back to the TDD madness…

  343. James Bond says:

    MOTD presenter Gary Lineker
“Mesut Ozil has signed for Arsenal. Terrific acquisition. Always rated him, but wonder why Real Madrid didn’t and why Mourinho preferred Willian?”

    ahahahahahahhahaha

    sour grapes

    ahahahahahahahahahhaahhahaa

yes, Gary – why why why ? go hug a potato i mean spud

  344. jgc says:

    17

    No worries, I’ve recovered! 🙂

    Cheers — jgc

  345. 17highburyterrace says:

    Nice one James…

I think Ozil is less effective playing on the break–Maureen style–and Willian, who I’ve heard was an Abramovich swipe, is all about pace and dribbling–a rich man’s Victor Moses, if you will…And certainly Roman A is nothing if not a rich man…

Of course, yesterday, we were a team playing on the break ourselves…

Ba on loan suits me just fine…What about a late bid to get Ade back? Geez, I’m dropping down to everybody else’s level with that one… 😆

  346. AFC says:

17ht, keep Bendy or sign Ade? Which would you do if you had the choice.

  347. Highbury Harmony says:

17ht, funny you say that, people thought Ozil would be less efficient in a possession/intricate passing system and was best utilized as an option on the counter/break.

  348. James Bond says:

    indeed @ 17HT

Maureen tried his best to destroy MO, yet he still was mighty effective –

so, are you volunteering on doing a piece on BA then ?

HH, has already done one on MO

    AFC, on the new Goalie

BA , if it goes through ? any takers ? (stares at TA , keeps staring until he says yes).

  349. 17highburyterrace says:

Thanks for the name of the ref, James…Saves me from having to look it up…

So Emiliano Viviano and Ozil in… Who else?…More, more, more!!!!!

Never satisfied… Isn’t that the modus operandi of the modern Gooner?…

  350. TotalArsenal says:

Not happy about the delay – still have not spend a penny as yet 😕

  351. Highbury Harmony says:

Ba is an excellent fit imo. Proven goal track, determined to score and should rotate/back-up OG extremely well. We’re basically creating a better Chelsea 2.0. No elite, world-class ST, but with all the elite talents creating scoring opportunities and being able to score themselves, it really will not matter!

  352. AFC says:

JB, I’m doing a summary of the transfer window.

  353. Highbury Harmony says:

    TA, you’ve got mail 🙂

  354. James Bond says:

    2005:
    BENDTNER LATEST
    Nicklas Bendtner
Here’s a man we’ve not mentioned yet this afternoon – Arsenal misfit Nicklas Bendtner. He spent last season on loan with Juventus but may be off to slightly less glamorous surroundings this year.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has just told Sky Sports News that the Eagles are hopeful of luring the big Dane.

He said: “We’re waiting to hear. I think it all depends on whether Arsenal get someone in or not. We’ve got contingencies in place, but hopefully we can get it done.”

    alrighty then.

  355. Highbury Harmony says:

Surprise!! Viviano was the thing AW hinted at yesterday 😉

  356. 17highburyterrace says:

HH, we are far from being an intricate passing team, at the moment, IMO… Really looking forward to seeing Ozil play for us…

Looking forward to your post as I’m sure it will give insight into how his signing should change/improve our style of play…

  357. ProudGooner says:

Evening gents , come you on the board wrap this one up and confirm the Ozil signing please. Lots of players are saying he is Arsenals new Bergkamp, Jose Mourenio said he is the best number 10 in the world. It is looking like a done deal just need to sign and confirm . 😮

  358. ProudGooner says:

:0 sorry i am just trying to work out how they do the Ozil smiley face lol

  359. James Bond says:

    down to the nitty gritty,

this is the time when usually players start handing in transfer requests in WRITING to force the moves….

buckle your seat belt time i reckon.

  360. AFC says:

17ht, if we could get Ba and another quality player like Di Maria in addition to Ozil and Viviano that would be a perfect TW.

  361. Highbury Harmony says:

17ht, the intricate passing comment was in reference to Ancelotti’s preferred style when he took over at Real, not in regards to Arsenal mate.

  362. James Bond says:

    yes, PG

Wayne rooney no longer is the best no.10 in the country – the best no.10 is a GOONER!!!

    although, he would wear a no.11 😀

  363. AFC says:

JB, Fellaini is supposed to be handing in a transfer request. 😉

  364. James Bond says:

i don’t care what Fellaini is suppose to be doing,

why isn’t there anything on a certain no.10 from up north…

all these smokes re- BA and still NOTHING ?

BA was a distraction – start something on the no.10 , do it someone ? 🙂

  365. AFC says:

United having trouble signing that Bilbao midfielder. The player has to buy out his own contract as United have met the buy out clause but the player can’t pay himself. United are trying to give him the money through the Spanish FA however the player could be charged 50% tax on that payment from United. 😀

  366. James Bond says:

    BBC Sport’s David Ornstein
    DEAL OFF
“Arsenal’s loan move for Chelsea striker Demba Ba is off, as Chelsea do not want to loan him to a rival club.”

    Javier pastore , anyone ?

  367. AFC says:

JB, I heard that. Spurs and Arsenal bids rejected for Ba as Chelsea don’t want to give him to us.

17ht, Ade on loan or keep Bendy?

  368. James Bond says:

finally, something, oh AFC – you are a life saver !!!

so Man UTD need the cash up front ? is that what you are telling me, yeah ?

guess what, we still got plenty of cash – bring it on.

  369. ProudGooner says:

    AFC,
Agreed it would be a very successful TW if we get Ozil plus Sanogo, Flemini, keeper and BA who i rate quite highly i would like him perm, can’t help but think we should have got David Villa though did he not go for basically the same price as Chelsea are asking for BA loan fee which is 3m.?

  370. AFC says:

No JB. The player doesn’t have the money to buy out his contract so United are trying to give it to him via the Spanish FA. Problem is that money could be taxed by 50%.

  371. ProudGooner says:

    JB,
You were right about Kaka , he would have been good but Ozil is tons better.

  372. James Bond says:

    AFC,

precisely, it will cost Man UTD more money for the transfer now as they get taxed more, no ?

    plus Fellaini.

    PG,

course he is, he’s the best buy of the entire window in England, in my opinion….a special special player, unselfish and a proper team man – the fans will love him – very humble fella and will feel right at home down edware road eating all them kebabs with poldi (turkish food).

  373. AFC says:

Surely, Ba was not our only play. We surely must have other STs in line.

  374. ProudGooner says:

SKY -Say there is BIG news from Arsenal after the break 🙂 3 mins and it could be done

  375. AFC says:

Yes, JB. Sorry I misunderstood you.

  376. AFC says:

I think United are trying to find a way around. Let’s hope they can’t.

  377. Highbury Harmony says:

    I’ll post this again 🙂

  378. AFC says:

All quiet on the Di Maria front?

  379. Highbury Harmony says:

Di Maria deal is dead mate. All efforts are to close the Ozil deal.

  380. ProudGooner says:

    JB,
Oh i love the kebabs down there, i want 1 badly now . Yep i am sure he will fit in perfect he is an amazing player. He was thye star of the world cup when he burst on the secne

  381. AFC says:

    HH, 😀

  382. Alcide says:

Please not Pastore! First he is not a striker, he’s an AM that can also play on LW. Second and to be honest his spell at PSG is not going so well… he had a few good performances last season but he had quite a few bad/absent games and has been really abysmal since the start of the season (especially for 40m euros), and I am not sure he has what it takes to play in the EPL – I don’t find him resilient to physical challenges at all. Waiting on bigger news!

  383. Highbury Harmony says:

Arsenal to make a late move for Abel Hernandez after Ozil deal completed.

  384. AFC says:

Alcide, I’d take Di Maria and a ST in addition to Ozil and Viviano. 10 out of 10 for AW if he can pull that off.

  385. ProudGooner says:

    Podolski——–Giroud————Theo……………………………………………………………..
    Carzola———————-Ozil……………………………………………………………………………..
    ——————Ateta—————————…………………………………………………………………..
the back four we know and Szcz
The Ozil deal; is not yet done they are discussing a 5 year deal so it is a wage hussal , BA is not coming

  386. Alcide says:

That would work for me too 🙂

    But #1: get Prince Igor!

  387. AFC says:

HH, what are your thoughts on A. Hernandez.

United have had a bid rejected for Khedira for around 40 million euros. 😀

  388. ProudGooner says:

Chelsea saying BA is not going to Arsenal 😦

  389. Highbury Harmony says:

PG, I don’t like that line-up mainly because it leaves us exposed on the defensive side. I think Ramsey is indispensable right now, while Poldi will have to live with rotation at LW/ST when he reaches full fitness again.

  390. Glic says:

Right Knob Rots lets get this party started !.

First order of the night you have to have the BK TW Deadline Day checklist and abide by it !.

    1) Women fcuk off. check
    2) Sky Sports news on 50 inch plasma srcreen. check
    3) Beer and popcorn. check
    4) Stark naked. check
    5) Cock on stand-by . check
    6) Dog between legs to lick scrotum. check
    7) Lap-top on lap to talk to you muvverz. check

Right, this is how we are going to play it !. The first BKer to do a 😳 smiley after jizzing over his lap top by levitating it when we get a SQ signing is the winner !…………………………..hold on a sec`, just let me answer the phone………………………..hello !………….VCC you bastard, we haven`t started yet and you`ve come in your pants haven`t you !

    VCC: 😳

And I bet you`ve got it on kids TV watching Scooby Doo again !………..I`m right aint I !

    VCC: 😳

And you`re in Curry`s/PC world superstore as well !.

    VCC: 😳

Right, VCC is banished to the the BK naughty step !.

As for the rest of you Broke Backers…………………………………………Ready, steady, go !

  391. TotalArsenal says:

    ————–Ozil——————-
    Theo———OG———Santi

  392. AFC says:

What’s going on with at St. James. They need to sign players and they ain’t signed no one.

  393. Highbury Harmony says:

AFC, Hernandez would be a quality signing. He’s considered a pretty special talent and together with Cavani and Pastore, they were the “magic trio” of Palermo. Of course, after the departures of the latter two, the squad was left fairly thin and Hernandez was more or less on his own.

Still, Hernandez is the perfect complement to our current STs (mainly Giroud) and has drawn comparisons to Thierry Henry’s game in that he is very quick and agile, unselfish and likes to cut in from either flank. His shooting is rated as exceptional, but he still needs work in the air, in composure and on his hold up play.

  394. Highbury Harmony says:

    Glic @20:49 LOL!

  395. AFC says:

What other STs are out who we have a chance of signing apart from A. Hernandez. If we can’t get him we must go in for Di Maria and use Podolski/Walcott up front as back up for OG.

  396. Highbury Harmony says:

    Assou-Ekotto to QPR

  397. James Bond says:

    MANCHESTER UNITED UPDATE
Spain football writer Andy West: “Spanish radio station Cadena Cope is claiming that Manchester United have seen a bid of €40m for Sami Khedira rejected by Real Madrid, making the Germany international approximately the 612th La Liga midfielder that United have failed to sign this summer.

“On that subject, there’s still no word on whether the Ander Herrera deal will go through, with the issue believed to be tax payments that would be triggered if United meet the €36m buy-out clause for the Athletic Bilbao midfielder. Could be a very late one.

    ahahhahahahahahahahahaha

let us all laugh at man utd (supposedly the best club in England) ahahahhahahahahahahahahaahhahaha

  398. ProudGooner says:

No player is indispensable , Rambo as good as he has been is by no means a must start, Carzola and Ozil will be ahead IMO. they will all play, i take your point though for a lot of games you would want more defensive midfield players. There is no must start team . That is just 1 option, i am not saying that team should start always.

  399. AFC says:

Man U seem to be struggling to get a midfielder. We seem to be struggling to get a ST.

  400. ProudGooner says:

    AFC,
    MIchu

  401. Highbury Harmony says:

It’s not whether Santi and Ozil will be ahead of Ramsey that’s the issue, but whether or not Arteta has the pace or ability to play as a lone DM an cover an already susceptible defense.

Santi will start wide left with Ozil in the hole.

  402. TotalArsenal says:

All agreed PG – but that would be my strongest eleven/twelve right now.

  403. Highbury Harmony says:

I would rather have a midfield that can boss any opposition and control the game than a ST that can change the game with one strike. Both are viable strategies to win a match, but the more chances you create, the more opportunities you have to score 🙂

  404. ProudGooner says:

    TA,
    I like your line up.
I know Michu is not the perfect signing, but he is one that we probably could realisticly get signed.

  405. AFC says:

    PG, Michu is overpriced.

  406. AFC says:

We lost out on Ba because we didn’t want to pay the loan fee Chelsea wanted according to the BBC.

  407. Highbury Harmony says:

Once everyone’s healthy, a bench of: Viviano, Monreal, Vermaelen, Flamini, Wilshere, Chamberlain and Podolski is, dare I say it, stronger (or at the very least on par) than the Invincibles bench!

  408. ProudGooner says:

    HH,
Agree, Wenger style was always we would out score them, but wisely now sees defence as very important, as the Spurs game showed

  409. Glic says:

I would have liked a couple of more SQ to go with the Toad in the Hole, but I will be happy with him and basically he`s only costing us £32m as we are already up £10m from out going players !. That’s another £40m for winter TW or £110m for next summer TW !. Will there be a surprise purchase at the death ?.

  410. TotalArsenal says:

    PG 🙂

Michu will also do for me as back up for Giroud – not ideal but could really work.

  411. Highbury Harmony says:

People often complain that we lack a game-changer on the bench, though I say to them why can’t Podolski be that man? I guess it all depends on whether or not he’d accept the role of being a super sub/occasional starter…

  412. James Bond says:

losing out on BA might well be good news @ AFC

  413. AFC says:

HH, in that case I would go for Di Maria. Strengthen our midfield and we’ll win a lot of games.

    Shay Given close to Liverpool.

  414. AFC says:

If I was Wenger I would just go in for Di Maria. Offer £30 mill for him. Have Theo as back up ST until Podolski is fit again.

  415. Alcide says:

I hope Manure’s current issues with Herrera and Khedira don’t lead them to try and hijack Ozil with a stupid offer…

  416. xavier says:

I love you bergkampesqueians!!! Best Arsenal FC blog in the Blogosphere!! Scratch that. Best Blog in the Blogosphere!!!!! 😀

  417. Highbury Harmony says:

Nah AFC, I would rather go for a back-up ST with huge potential like A.Hernandez than Di Maria. We have a plethora of mid options if we sign Ozil. However, I would never say no to Di Maria if we signed him!

Also, Manure will not hijack our deal. They are struggling to sign players because their Nike deal is up for renegotiation. There was a clause that allowed Nike 6 months exclusive negotiaton rights, which expired today. So if Nike are negotiating, why would they fund united’s transfers until kit deal signed?

  418. James Bond says:

    Alcide,

    Ozil is a gunner – don’t worry.

Xavier – co signed and 2nded.

  419. AFC says:

I would bid £30 mill for Di Maria, get him in then have Theo as the back up ST until Podolski is fit.

  420. xavier says:

I love you bergkampesqueians!!! Best Arsenal FC blog in the Blogosphere!! Scratch that. Best Blog in the Blogosphere!!!!! 😀

  421. AFC says:

    Oops already posted that.

Reports saying that Bendtner could stay, he might be Girouds back up. Bendtner’s talks with Palace have fallen through.

  422. Highbury Harmony says:

AFC, we need Theo starting. He is so dangerous and LB’s have nightmares about playing the lad. He really stretches an opposition’s back four and we’ve centered our attack around him cutting in from the right this season.

  423. AFC says:

My friend has just made very good point. Ba has not done better in a Chelsea shirt than Bendtner has done in an Arsenal.

Bendtner could be motivated to play well considering the world cup is. Coming up.
He could turn out to be good back up?

  424. VCC says:

GLiC……..The Manager at PC World has banned me. 😉

  425. Glic says:

Don’t you just hate it when you cant get rid of Jehovah Witnesses when they knock at the door !. Well it`s fcuking easy when you answer the door naked with pop corn in one hand and a beer in the other hand whilst balancing the lap top on your cock and the dog is licking your scrotum…..don’t think they will be coming back to quickly in the not too distant future !. TW Deadline Day the final solution to Jehovah Witnesses !. hahaha

  426. AFC says:

It is now up to Wenger to solve this ST problem. Let’s hope he can sort it.

  427. Alcide says:

There used to be rumors about Luis Muriel at some point; I didn’t know the player but his stats looked quite interesting,,, is that dead?

  428. James Bond says:

    Xavier,

suffice to assume, you’re happy ? or is that your way of wanting more signings at Arsenal ? are you in the HH camp or AFC camp ?

  429. Glic says:

Thanks Xavier…..pop around….I have something for that stutter !. hahaha

  430. ProudGooner says:

    TA,
I think Michu is a very good player, i think some think because he only cost 1 miliion and plays for Swansea he is not all that. He has been banging in the goals in the PL and is the different kind of striker to Giroud i think we need . . We need someone, saying that i think the price might be a bit to high, i would of like Loic Remy. We all know Wenger wanted a striker can he still pull 1 out???
He must of een after someone i wonder who it was.

  431. AFC says:

Anyone worried that we are only looking to loan players with the exception of Ozil?

  432. AFC says:

Anyone worried that we are only looking to bring in players on loan with the exception of Ozil?

  433. Highbury Harmony says:

    AFC,

No. We signed Flamini and Sanogo mate :).

  434. jgc says:

    Glic,

🙂 … The JWs will return, you obviously need saving! Like Arsenal, they just need reinforce, nets and a stronger (ahem) holding midfield to deal with your case…

Cheers — jgc nearing night night time!

  435. ProudGooner says:

Glic has your dads mate Ozil said anything??? Cant believe VCC has been getting naked with his 3D glasses on in public again lol

  436. jgc says:

    Argh, * reinforcements… Sigh, tired …jgc

  437. Alcide says:

Toby Alderweireld and Josuha Guilavogui went for Athletico Madrid, nice signings.

  438. AFC says:

HH, the problem is we are not looking to spend any more money on transfer fees with the exception of Ozil. Is there not enough money? There should be.

  439. James Bond says:

    no AFC, i’m not worried

i’m still confident, still plenty of time to push through the remaining deals .

but mind you, loan deals are not as bad really, if the right player comes in.

  440. Highbury Harmony says:

AFC, it’s not always about spending everything you have. Buying a couple players (free, loan and normal transfer) is a great start and allows us to bed these few players into the squad first, opposed to a mass of transfers in, unsettling the balance we already have.

Then, in January we can re-evaluate if we need anything else and can spend again then. What will Di Maria’s price be if he hardly plays at Real with Bale and Ronaldo there? Likely even lower than it is now and the player will be more keen to leave.

  441. AFC says:

JB, let’s be patient. Wenger may have another surprise in store for us.

  442. Highbury Harmony says:

Lukaku back to WBA for loan possibly. Would be a good move for him imo.

  443. AFC says:

HH, you are spot on there mate. Maybe that is Wenger’s plan. Wait until Jan to get some quality international players in for a good price when they are available.

  444. James Bond says:

    he has @ AFC

and listen listen to HH – January is not far off.

  445. AFC says:

Wenger has until to 12pm to sign players from abroad right?

  446. Highbury Harmony says:

Players don’t really understand the impact of a new transfer in that will compete for playing time with them. All they see upon first glance is the chance to link up with another individual; that will make the team better. However, once their minutes get reduced or they get displaced in the starting 11, they realize the severity of the situation and ask to leave.

  447. James Bond says:

uk 11 pm makes it 12 am from most of Europe.

players can be announced after 11 though as long as they are registered before 23:00 or no later.

  448. James Bond says:

    *for

  449. AFC says:

Sorry, JB I meant 12 am. I heard that negotiations can still go on as long as deals are agreed in principle before the 11pm.

  450. AFC says:

Didn’t see your comment JB, thanks. 🙂

  451. James Bond says:

    yes,

Fax machines are a thing of beauty in days like today @ AFC

  452. ProudGooner says:

i am getting a little worried now, when is the star-wars trumpet blower going to be done.???

  453. Highbury Harmony says:

F*ck BBC reporting that Ozil waiting for an offer from Utd? JB, what is up with your sauces?!

  454. AFC says:

JB, all is quiet so maybe Wenger is trying to sign some players. What are your ‘sauces’ saying?

  455. ProudGooner says:

Well done to the BFG for tapping him up though you just know him and Podolski have been trying to convince him to join us for Wenger 🙂

  456. ProudGooner says:

Well done to the BFG for tapping him up though you just know him and Podolski have been trying to convince him to join us for Wenger 🙂
    captain BFG

  457. Highbury Harmony says:

Granted, pure speculation on BBC’s part, no truth in that “suggestion” just yet.

  458. Highbury Harmony says:

Link about tapping him up, PG?

  459. James Bond says:

relax , MO is in the bag

it’s all lies and speculation, Zidane showed him his hairline , Carlo farted, Jose told him,he’s a sexy man , blah blah

    Ozil is a gooner –

remember the Monreal real ? it wasn’t official until after 23:00, if memory serves

everyone, take a deep breath and let’s not get nervous.

  460. James Bond says:

    *deal

  461. ProudGooner says:

No link HH just MO do you not think BFG or Podolski would try and persude him to join Arsenal?

  462. Highbury Harmony says:

JB, as a Gooner, you are always nervous, especially after the Mata fiasco…

  463. Highbury Harmony says:

PG, I speculated as much earlier in this thread, but did not have a link to confirm it. I thought maybe you did!

  464. ProudGooner says:

there are national team mates and have each others phone numers

  465. ProudGooner says:

ha ha ha they will probably say they did in a press meeting later when the deal is done, when they ask why he joined Arsenal

  466. Highbury Harmony says:

Still PG, I want to see a link :). The link would prove that Ozil is 100% coming if you catch my drift.

  467. James Bond says:

we didn’t have the financial muscle back then re- Mata

we got the Financial Muscle now and trust me, we won’t be bullied by anyone , even if Man $hity and Chelsea tag teamed on us

this ones not going to slip through our fingers.

  468. AFC says:

I am presuming that many teams must be ringing up Arsenal trying to offload players who wages are too high are just need to be moved on. Surely a few of those players must be quality?

  469. Highbury Harmony says:

Funny that BBC also have “Arsenal agree 42.5 million deal for Ozil under their “In Summary” heading on the transfer deadline page.

  470. James Bond says:

    HH,

check Poldi’s twitter, i’m sure he must have something related to MO ?

here is another guy on the beeb :

    Fulham’s German defender Sascha Riether:
    “Welcome to London Mesut Ozil.”

  471. AFC says:

HH, I guess the deal for Ozil has not been announced because it is done and Wenger is busy trying to bring in other players. I think Ozil has signed, has gone back to Germany and is now having a good nights sleep.

  472. Highbury Harmony says:

JB, then BBC went on to say, “not so fast Sascha, anyone would think he’s waiting on a better offer”. Purely speculation but still…

  473. Alcide says:

BIG Manchester United news from Spain incoming….

  474. ProudGooner says:

Oh come on. This really is a great great deal for the club. The one we have been crying out for for ages lol i just want to hear its done even though i am very sure it is.

  475. Highbury Harmony says:

Although, Boateng’s official Facebook page said “Good luck at AFC, Ozil” and it was the caption on his recent photo upload.

  476. Alcide says:

    Deal off on Herrera!

  477. Highbury Harmony says:

LOL deal for Herrera is off was the big news!

  478. James Bond says:

let us all take a minute, deep breath and read this

    MAN UNITED UPDATE
Stand by for some BIG Manchester United news from Spain…

and now let us take another deep breath and read this

    MAN UTD HERRARA UPDATE
Spanish football writer Andy West: “Big news breaking in Spain that Manchester United will NOT meet the buyout clause for Ander Herrera. According to these reports, the deal is off. Note this isn’t confirmed but more details will emerge very soon.”

    ahhahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahaahhahahahahahahahaha

  479. James Bond says:

that’s true HH, but don’t you think that the national team players would actually know where their fellow countrymen are headed ?

it’s the beeb’s job to keep things going and interesting and mind you, if you take out the MO deal then this has been a really really dull transfer deadline day so far.

  480. ProudGooner says:

yeah here is the Podolski tweet——RT @Mo_Farah: Mesut Ozil having a medical with @Arsenal!!! Kiss kiss bang bang!!! Come on Arsenal…….!!!!!

  481. AFC says:

LOOOOL! United fans must be pissed.

  482. Alcide says:

Hahahahaha JB thanks for trying to make us relax about Prince Igor… I wish it was working… Still scared about a ManU Hail Mary the way their transfers are going

  483. Alcide says:

*wonders if Fergie is mashing his F5 key…*

  484. Glic says:

You`ve got to admit, this whole TW is laughable really, 3 months and we are down to the last 49 mins !. Why ?.

  485. Highbury Harmony says:

Mata to P$G pending Chelsea accepting their offer.

  486. AFC says:

If I was Everton I would demand £35 million for Fellaini. 😆

  487. ProudGooner says:

    HH 22:05
    Good stuff
    Glic,
you must be very excited about the Ozil deal, i remember way back when we were after Higuain you said, i would rather we went after Ozil.

  488. Alcide says:

PG – Podolski’s retweeting looks good!

  489. AFC says:

United fans are pissed that Fellaini might be their only signing. 😀

Glic, you are right. The only deal that we should have been waiting on should have been Ozil.

  490. ProudGooner says:

    Glic,
its because of the spurs tossers pissing about with the bale deal, you got to admit they played it very very well

  491. Highbury Harmony says:

Real confirm to La Liga authorities that Ozil will depart the league.

  492. Glic says:

We were never going to buy more than one SQ. This is all done on purpose, they ( the BOD ) think we will be so relieved in getting someone of Ozil`s quality at the last second`s of the TW, that we will be satisfied !. Wenger himself said he needed 3…..that`s 1 a month, nothing too hard you would think and we will get 1 in the dying seconds…..if were lucky !.
    All a con !.

  493. Highbury Harmony says:

Utd only looking at Fellaini now.

  494. AFC says:

The BBC have said that Ozil will be announced in the next 30 mins. They also said no one else will be coming. Not a good transfer window in my opinion. An ok transfer window.

At least we still have Park and Bendy. 😀

So why did we loan out Johan if we didn’t sign another defender? Why did we let Gervinho leave?

  495. ProudGooner says:

    yyeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss its done

  496. Glic says:

Yes PG…..Out of all of them rumoured Madrid players…Ozil was the one for me, personally I think the others would have been a gamble, but Ozil is proper quality !.

  497. ProudGooner says:

Ozil says he is delighted and wants to win titles at Arsenal again yessssssssssss

  498. Highbury Harmony says:

I’m waiting to see BBC or SSN with the official update!

  499. AFC says:

Glic, I’m with you. My understnading was that we were going to bring in 2-3 SQ players with Flamini arriving a free. I could have taken Ozil and another top player but we don’t have no one else coming in. We didn’t even bring in Ba on loan.

I actually have to change my opinion. This has been a bad TW considering the circumstances we entered the TW in.

  500. Highbury Harmony says:

PG GIVE ME A LINK PLEASE, I’M FREAKING OUT lol

  501. ProudGooner says:

    HH

  504. Glic says:

  505. Highbury Harmony says:

  506. Highbury Harmony says:

    Wenger confirms it too!!

  507. Alcide says:

    YES!

Now JB, should we stay until the end of the window or are we done for today?

  508. Glic says:

Oh well AFC….there`s always January !.

  509. TotalArsenal says:

you happy to go with the post, HH?

  510. James Bond says:

    and keep your fingers crossed.

  511. ProudGooner says:

  512. Highbury Harmony says:

  513. Alcide says:

  514. TotalArsenal says:

    It’s out baby 😛

  515. TERRY MANCINI HAIR TRANSPLANT says:

    Thank Fuckeries for that

Perfect window for me. Feldman is one of the best players in the world, tremendous quality.

Hes also incredibly ugly so makes me feel better about myself. Perfect

  516. ProudGooner says:

yeeessssss i will read your post now, its a good day to be a gooner 🙂

  517. TotalArsenal says:

    New Post New Post 🙂

HH has written a fabulous, in-depth post about our new signing. Hallelujah we have our SQ player! 🙂

  518. AFC says:

Glic, in my summary I will highlight the fact that this was not a perfect TW in my opinion. It was an ok-good transfer window.

In my opinion we should have signed a young CB early on in the TW to replace Johan, Squill and Santos. We should have signed a quality DM and we should have signed a world class ST.

  519. xavier says:

    @JB
I’m not in any camp. Both have some valid points and are gooners. That’s enough for me. I take the safe option and hang somewhere in between.

    @Glic
I’m always around. Not a regular commenter though. Maybe that’l change now we’ve GOT OZILLLLL!!!
