Predicted Line-Up: Rosicky and Theo on wings, FlamRam, Gibbs back?

Just a quick one as I am busy with Christmas preparations.

Tonight’s game against the Chavs will no doubt be a wild affair. Strong winds are forecasted and let there be no doubt that all 22 players and both managers will be hyped up for this one. May the Canon roar and cause total mayhem in the Chavs’ defence: a great night to show the pride in our shirt.

It is the first game of four big ones in succession and a good start would lift both teams tremendously for the remaining games. It is also a London Derby AND the rebirth of the battle between the self-declared Special One and Le Professeur; the scheming strategist and the visionary entertainer; street wisdom and philosophy.

This will be the battle of midfield, no doubt. Last year, the streetwise semi-nasty Ramires taught us a lesson in aggressive midfield play and I hope we are prepared for the physical/aggressive approach the Chavs will instigate in midfield. If they play Ramires, which for me is almost a certainty, we need to let him know who is boss today in the first few minutes. Flamini has to be our man to do that and a hell of a lot will be expected of him today. The key question is who should play next to him: Arteta, Ramsey OR somebody else?

If it is Ramsey he will need to play one of the games of his life to deal with both the defensive side of things and link our back-six (including GK and holding DM) with the front-four. If it is Arteta, he will have to rediscover his old form again and dominate proceedings in front of the back five/six. Maybe Wenger surprises us all by putting Rosicky next to Flamini; we have to wait and see.

The other question is whether Wenger will go 4-5-1 or more 4-2-1-3: five midfielders or three attackers? He could start with Flamini, Ramsey, Rosicky, Cazorla and Ozil, but also opt to attack the Chavs with both Pod and Theo on the wings. I reckon the answer is in the middle with both Rosicky and Theo starting on ‘the wings’ tonight.

At the back things should be straightforward. Sagna, BFG, Szczesny and TV to start with either Monreal or Gibbs on LB. I go for the latter but would not be surprised if Monreal gets another chance.

Let’s get behind the team tonight and will our boys on till the end. Tonight’s game could turn into a special, one-off event to cherish for a long, long time.

Come On You Rip Roaring Gooners – Do Us Proud!

Merry Christmas fine fellow Gooners! 🙂

  1. James Bond says:

    nice one @ TA

i’ll go for Santi on the left wing as my only change.

however, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rosicky start on the right ahead of Theo , with us controlling the game and bossing it, until the 60th minute when we bring Theo on as a sub for Rosicky.

    3-0 Arsenal.

  2. James Bond says:

when was the last time we scored from a set piece ? and when was the last time we played against a team with 10 men ? I can’t seem to remember but what I do remember is that we have had to play quite a few games against 12 men, hence the law of football suggests we are due some much needed luck, wouldn’t mind a freak Sczny goal either since it’s really windy outside right now (London) – crikey

  3. Dylan says:

I would rather have Jack on the left than Rosicky, but obviously he’s suspended. I’m still not thrilled with Santi on the left this season. I think he’s much better though the middle. I’m going to go with a surprise Gnabry on the left. 😉

  4. James Bond says:

    that’s a very adventurous shout @ Dylan

so you think Jack has done better than Santi this season ? both have been well below par and our weak link in quite a few matches.

you don’t really rate Rosicky as highly as most of us, for some reason ?

He’s the best presser we have in this team, and one who takes our passing and attacking game to the next level by speeding it up – very under-rated player in my opinion this chap Rosicky.

  5. VCC says:

I’m with 007……Only change to your line up = Santi in place of Rosicky.

Gnabry, Monreal and Rosicky on after 70 mins.

    Thanks TA

Getting a bit worried the rain might put the game in doubt. I will be taking my brolly for sure.

Arteta with Flamini for me, and Ramsey instead of Rosiscky, but we shall see.

  7. AFC says:

TA, nearly spot on with the line up in my opinion. 🙂

I think Santi will start on the LM/LW. I just cannot see Wenger leaving him out of such a big game however as others have pointed out he seems less effective on the LM/LW with Ozil in the ‘hole’ so maybe he is the guy to make a temporary move to play next to Flamini in the double DM pivot if we are chasing a result.

Walcott is definitely needed to provide pace and goals. No point using him as an impact sub as he has the power to influence any match at any time. If we are to score goals Walcott will be vital.

  8. TotalArsenal says:

Cheers guys, pretty sure Rosicky will start in absence of Jack as we need his energy and tackling ability (healthy aggression). Santi instead of Theo is a good shout and Gnabry would also be a nice surprise, although cannot see that one happening with Theo – who loves to score against the bigger teams – fresh and raring to go..

  9. TotalArsenal says:

Terry, good shouts. Have a great game! 🙂

  10. James Bond says:

i would want to see Poldi instead of Gnabry as a sub though @ VCC

  11. TotalArsenal says:

AFC you could be right but I reckon LM or RM is the best position for Cazorla and not the hole, but we’ll see. COYG 🙂

  12. Gerry says:

TA – I think you are right in thinking M will take note of the robust approach that Man C used, and will have his pair do the same.

We will not get much joy out of the ref either.

I think it is more how balanced we are that matters, and I think it is a good call on having Rosicky start. He is pretty good at twisting away, and experienced enough to see a bad tackle coming?
Arteta and Santi I feel will come from the bench, and Poldi only if we have not used all subs shoring up our defences? I cannot see him starting having been out so long, without any game time in between. That sort of leaves Walcott on the right. However, I do not think Sagna will do much overlapping as he will need to be on his toes if Hazard is joining up on their left? At least Walcott will keep their LB occupied, which is another good reason for starting him?

So that would be Ramsey Ozil and Giroud making the final three.

The bench is going to look okay: Fab; Jenks; Monreal: Arteta; Santi; Podolski; Bendtner.
    But no room for Gnabry?

  13. Gerry says:

TCM – My response is on the last post on the previous post, which includes the latest weather update?

  14. AFC says:

TA, I was suggesting that Santi could come on for Ramsey in the DM position, to influence play from deep if we need to be more attacking. Maybe that might solve the problem of Santi and Ozil getting in each others ways?

  15. Dylan says:

JB, I used to rate Rosicky I just think he hasn’t aged well. I’d often rather see the much younger Jack or Gnabry get game time and experience over him. He’s well past his peak, but is a valuable squad player. My other issue is him on the wing. If he plays, I’d rather have him in the middle. Problem with that is he becomes third choice CAM. With very little playing time behind the incredible Ozil and Santi. So I just don’t know about him.

  16. TotalArsenal says:

Cheers Gerry – your comment could easily be copied and pasted into the text of the post: we have an identical hymn sheet in front of us! 😉

  17. TotalArsenal says:

I’d rather play Rosicky next to flamini, AFC, but Santi is indeed an option.

  18. TotalArsenal says:

Nah Dylan, Rosicky is not past his peak at all, as long as we dont play him too much

  19. James Bond says:

    that’s interesting @ Dylan

why interesting ? because quite bluntly put, whenever he plays, we look the business and he gets Ozil, Giroud and Theo more involved and he runs at the defence directly, even when he is 33 years young, looks to be better and more intelligent compared to some youngsters

but let’s hope whoever plays tonight , delivers the goods.

  20. Gerry says:

Oops, as I check google earth once again, heavy stuff has arrived at my little marker flag for Ashburton Grove.

Be prepared for 8 hours of continuous heavy rain. 20-40mm of it!

  21. RA says:

So, I take it you have had your ‘quick one’ TA?

But it was a good Post despite your lustful activities. 🙂

  22. RA says:

    Commander Bond,

The last time we scored from a set piece was ages ago. Well, last week when the Big Effing German scored with a header from a free kick. 🙂

  23. James Bond says:

it was a cross, no ? and not a free kick @ RA

  24. James Bond says:

we have a good drainage system at the Emirates @ Gerry

I wouldn’t expect any disturbances or delays as such

but constant rains means, a change of tactics and style possibly, with more aerial passes/ long balls ( Jose. M must be loving it) and less of our free flowing footy ?

  25. TotalArsenal says:

    Hi Redders 🙂

How is it hanging and are you still in the United States of Arsenal?

  26. James Bond says:

yep, just checked, it was a cross by Sagna from inside the box that was met by the BFG @ RA

    not a set piece, sadly.

any other takers to do the honours ?

  27. Thanks Van Cloggmass 😆
Play our best waterpoloers is my advise !.
Ah Gezzer….you have the dogs doo dahs between your teeth and wont let go !. hahaha
Thank`s to Tarzan, the stats are even more on my side and we will have to beat W Ham and Newcastle to keep you in the mix in this discussion !.
By the way, we did beat Reading….5-2 and 4-1, not forgetting that great 7-5 in the League Cup !.
We also had some thumping results of 7-3 Newcastle, 6-1 Southampton, 5-2 Spuds, 5-1 West Ham and 4-1 Wigan. So far this season not on the same level with them scores and also…and how can I forget, thanks to my jungle friend, -5 points adrift like for like !.
Come on one of you bastards, I have all the egg heads against me……..see it my way and agree before the gap gets bigger !. hahaha

  28. RA says:

Bondie, it is always the same with you Secret Agents, bugging innocent bloggers with details shmetails!!

Cross, set piece, Walter PPK – typical!

  29. James Bond says:

    Glics ,

have you forgotten what’s at stake for tonight’s game ? allow me to give you a hint – it’s a lovely leather sofa 😉 hence behave yourself 👿

my way of saying, that a goal or 2 would be rather nice and more than welcome from a set piece , tonight :!

  30. Do him with the laser Redders !……the Bondage Bastard is getting too big for his Aston Martin !. hahaha

  31. RA says:

    Hi TA, 🙂

I am always in the Land of Arsenal. 🙂

Can you bin the Bondie Bloke? How can anyone win an argument with him if he keeps checking the facts? I mean, does the Furry Blue Bloke check everything? He doesn’t even check his furry zip is done up! That’s my sort of blogger!! 🙂

  32. James Bond says:

Also, the reason why I don’t think Rosicky will start or play tonight is that we may play him against WHU instead of Ozil , with Poldi on his left.

  33. James Bond says:

and here comes the famous tag team, with their lasers and tasers

right lads, am off for a bit now, be back before the game though !!!

  34. TotalArsenal says:

Ooh Cockie who are we to deny you your unhappiness!? 😛

We are one point and one game behind the leaders in the league but it all means absolutely nothing – compared to last season we are total shite, underperformers, losers, fools, and utter rubbish hahahaha 😆

  35. I`ve been fcuking about with my Septic Tank today…..steady Redders hahaha……basically, I`m going to have to put a new soak-away in, sometime in the future. In the mean time on days like today, I stick some tubing into the Septic….apologies again Redders ! hahaha……and syphon it away into the fields !…..which has one distinct plus… ends up in the Spud down the lanes field !. An advantage of being higher up is shit doesn`t float uphill !. hahahaha

  36. I`m glad you`re the first to agree with me Totes !. hahaha

  37. ‘Morning fellas…Blue skies here (again)… 😀

In the world’s stupidest debate (ever) I’m gonna have to side with …Cockie! At least he doesn’t (repeatedly) suggest that we lost games we actually won… In the end I will go with what’s written at the bottom of all the adverts I’m sent trying to get at my massive fortune. “Past performance is not indicative of future results.”

Tonight’s lineup will be revealing in that it will show who Wenger believes is his best 11. I have to disagree with Dylan about Rosicky but I also have to disagree with those who put him in the starting 11. For me, it’s the return of the Spaniards, Arteta and Santi at the expense of Flamini and Rosicky as the only changes from TA’s printed lineup above. Gibbs comes back at LB as well…

It will be interesting how Mourinho sets out his team. I look for a conservative approach. If the weather is bad, set pieces or speculative balls into the box become all the more dangerous and playing along the ground becomes less productive. I remember a similar wet match a few seasons back with the difference being a Cole to Drogba crossed goal. Luckily neither of them will be in the line-up…Unless Jose is bluffing…(about Cashley)…

My ‘puter is moving slow, so I’m gonna shut it down for a bit but I’ll be around for in-match chat–cockie has promised an appearance there, no?…

  38. Fozzie B says:

Good evening Windy Withered Willy Wresrlers!!
Thank you Totes Talula for the post before joining Cockie in his Tranny CockieClaus
    Xmas run!! 😆
I’m very, very worried about this weather!! As I sit on my deck chair on the beach with my rum punch … The sun has singed my fur dark brown!! Haha !! 😆 … seriously I’ve lost my mojo for this game completely now I know the weather is going to play a massive part in the game. Sofa beckons!! Haha 😆 it’s going to make this game a bit of a lottery I feel and without Kozzer at the back, but a nervous Verminator instead …. Eeeek!! 😀
I would like Rocky to start and Santi, Gnabry and Podolski to come on as subs at the 70 min mark, or Moreal instead of the latter if we are defending a lead.
    Gutted about the playing conditions!!
Oh well… Hey ho… It’s a leveller for both teams!
    COYRRG’s!!! 😀

  39. RA says:

Cockie has threatened to appear naked if we win!

Don’t take his ‘septic tank’ comment too seriously, it is rhyming slang for ‘Yank’.

He is such a naughty Cockie – however adorable – and when I finally get to go to a game with him, when I return to the UK, I will get him and Terry drunk!! 🙂

  40. Cheers for the pre-match report TA!

I would love to see Rosicky start and think we are just a more fluid and focused side offensively, when he plays. He seems to make things happen when he’s well rested and a front 4 of Rosicky, Ozil, Walcott and Giroud could be deadly. If it were up to me, I’d likely play Ramsey next to Flamini for that extra burst and goal scoring ability. Santi and Podolski to come on as subs.

We better beat these chavs to a bloody pulp!!!

  41. Gerry says:

Ditto HH, that’s the way I would play it.

JB – Surely it is Santi for Ozil?

  42. Just being on the good guys side, 7eventeen, isn`t enough flattery to get me out from behind the sofa ( which could be my last due to the incompetence of my new blood sucking bastardo ! ). Anyway, it`s the Munchies game I said I would come out of hibernation for !.
So that’s Totes and 7eventeen on the side of the BK FUCKING ! ( Free Uzbek Cockie Kicking Inbred Nasty Gezzer ) hahaha

  43. geoffchase says:

I’m with the TR fans, as JB put it best we are more focused, and, for my taste press better. I suspect same is currently true with Theo over Santi (sadness!) but if the field is slow and it’s all about control then Santi will have an edge.

Still going with 2-1, where JB can check the fact of my consistency… In prediction, not accuracy…

Oh, AR to score today and …. Ozil to assist at least one. The first because he will be fired up and I should also note that I prefer him back by Flamini. The second because that’s what he does.

    Cheers — jgc

    Cheers — jgc

  44. geoffchase says:

Good news: game on telly here

    Bad news: delayed one hour

Good news: if it all goes shit I can pretend it never happened

    Cheers — jgc

  45. I notice on the side bar at the top, the….Bergkampesque Authors with name ( based in ):…….. for example….AFC ( UK )……Oz Gunner ( Skippy`s Bed )……Kaboom ( ouch ! minefield ! )

Isn`t it time some of the regulars had such recognition ?………..The Cockie Monster ( Lesbania )…….TMHT ( STD Clinic )………Fozzie B ( Somewhere in Alpha Centauri )………VCC ( New Zimmerland )…etc`

  46. TotalArsenal says:

Hi HH – yes that is a great attack to cause the Chavs all sorts of problems. Big role for El Ramsey though.

  47. TotalArsenal says:

    What about Bondie, Cockie?

  48. I personally thought TR7 was shit, I much preferred the TR6, of which I had 3, all 150bhp engine ones !.

  49. Fozzie B says:

Hahaha!! Love that Cockie!! Luckily I can also point out to the BK faithful that Lesbania is several million light years past alpha centauri!! 😆

  50. James Bond says:

ah, really pissing down now, however, conditions at the Emirates look really good I’m hearing, and Arsenal have advised everything is good to go, however – the travels are a bit of a concern, hence get in nice and early is the message.

I assumed Santiago would play today, hence rested him for WHU and note how I had Poldi on the left for that one, but yeah, Santi mostly to rest Ozil through the middle otherwise – agreed.

Jgc, makes a good point about conditions and Theo not being as effective hence we play both Rosicky and Santi on the flanks ? hell even Arteta and Flamini could do in the double pivot with Ramsey on one of the Flanks with either one of Rosicky/Santi.

keeping the weather in mind, it will be a good selection and starting 11.

so we have a full house today with almost everyone here minus the Aussies / Oz’s .

  51. JB ( aghahahaahahaha aghahahahahhaha ) or

The last one is when he swung into an unchartered lamp post and wrapped his goollies around it !. hahaha

  52. Fozzie B says:

Haha or the last one is with hid inverted porcupine loincloth!! Your right JB the ball will skid on too much for Walcott .. Going to be a very interesting team selection!! 😀

  53. Fozzie B says:

  54. Gerry says:

but Walcott plays anyway? – AW hath spoken

  55. James Bond says:

I was kind of expecting that from you, Glics – no worries , you best get behind (no , not the sofa) but the team and be prepared to yell like that video you posted or else …. I’m sure you get the drift, ha

yep, Fozzie but like Gerry points out, Walcott starts

no right or wrong selections in this one, as we must play as a team, defend like a team and attack like lions !

  56. James Bond says:

by the way, Theo loves scoring against the big teams like TA , pointed out earlier and he certainly loves to score against Chelsea, so I can see why AW has started with Theo.

  57. Fozzie B says:

Have you got the full lineup JB?

  58. Fozzie B says:

    1 Szczesny
    3 Sagna
    4 Mertesacker
    6 Koscielny
    17 Monreal
    16 Ramsey
    20 Flamini
    14 Walcott
    11 Ozil
    10 Wilshere
    12 Giroud

  59. Highbury Harmony says:

Theo scored last year against the Chavs in the new year and tends to be a bit of a flash in the pan in those games, but is still needed for that surprising quick strike.

  60. Highbury Harmony says:

    Isn’t Jack suspended Fozzie?

  61. Fozzie B says:

Hang on a minute .. That’s got Wilshere in it!! Dam sky sports!! Sorry guys!!

  62. Fozzie B says:

    1 Szczesny
    3 Sagna
    4 Mertesacker
    5 Vermaelen
    28 Gibbs
    16 Ramsey
    8 Arteta
    14 Walcott
    11 Ozil
    7 Rosicky
    12 Giroud

  63. Fozzie B says:

    Ram-teta it is! 😀

  64. James Bond says:

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Ramsey, Arteta, Walcott, Ozil, Rosicky, Giroud. Subs: Podolski, Monreal, Cazorla, Flamini, Fabianski, Bendtner, Jenkinson.

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Lampard, Ramires, Willian, Hazard, Torres. Subs: Cole, Luiz, Mata, Oscar, Schurrle, Schwarzer, Eto’o.

    Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)

a very attacking line up by the arsenal and a tad defensive from Chelsea ?

  65. James Bond says:

    *mighty arsenal

  66. Fozzie B says:

Yeah can’t see them scoring much with that JB .. Glad essien is suspended … Ramires to choke Arteta will be a key matchup …

  67. James Bond says:

yep, glad Rosicky, Ozil and theo will be playing together – is it the first time this season ?

Chelsea are playing 3 defensive players at the expense of Mata and Oscar (baffling decision).

more like, they are going to park the bus, no doubt.

  68. Highbury Harmony says:

Interesting. If Flamini isn’t nursing a knock, I would have preferred him to Arteta in the starting line-up.

  69. Fozzie B says:

Yes very defensive .. I expected Oscar to have a big game today… Why thank you Maureen!!! Lets hope we score early in this one or it could be dour especially with the weather and this negative Chelvski setup!

  70. Fozzie B says:

Yeah I hear you HH … Zorro got owned by Mikel and Ramires last time… But I think Flames passing game has been off lately so at least we get that back with Zorro. Expect to see him getting fouled left, right and centre like he did against Everton!

  71. James Bond says:

Flamini had a shocker against City hence AW saving him for WHU ? @ HH

Fozzie, it may well be a stroke of genius by Jose.M considering the weather conditions ? it’s one of those, where IF AW, had opted to play both Flamini and Arteta, not many would have criticized his team selection either, I reckon

  72. TotalArsenal says:

ten out of eleven aint bad, but still surprised the Flame is not playing…. we needed his bite.

Off to watch game in pub, catch you later and COME ON YOU GUNNERS! 🙂

  73. I will be off to Bath tomorrow for a two night break, so seeing as it`s Christmas, I will sing to you all a Bergkampesque rendition of…..The 12 days of Christmas, please sing along Bastards !. hahaha

  74. proudgooner says:

I think Wenger is right in only playing 1 of Ozil or Cazorla and he choose Ozil.
    I like his line up.
Il go for 2-1 to us.
This would be my fav x-mas present would be to beat the chavs and go back to where we belong, at the top of the league1
COYG be strong in all departments! Red army1

  75. Dylan says:

Time to win the Christmas league boys!

  76. So, Sicky gets the call! Should allow us to run and fill spaces just that little bit more more. Why doesn’t Mourinho like Mata? I will say that Willian looked lively in the COC match against us and Azpilicueta got the first goal. In many respects both clubs have a wealth of riches in attacking midfield positions…

This will be a big match for Arteta to provide outlets so we can win the MF battle and to organize the newer central defensive partnership. Big game for Verm too. Again, set pieces could be the difference and it would be lovely if TV5 could get a goal…

All told, too much build-up…Let the game begin! Go on! Etc….

  77. Dylan says:

Please say Rosicky proves me wrong. He needs to get to the touch line more when you plays on the wings. He doesn’t do that enough.

  78. alexgunners says:

    Good morning/evening guys

A big game where we need to get start on the front foot and put the pressure on the chavs.
No excuses and if we are to challenge for the title we need to win games like this one especially against maureen

  79. James Bond says:

    ahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahah wtf @ Glics

  80. 17highburyterrace says:

Well Cockie, I’d say you’ve captured the spirit!!!!

  81. James Bond says:

    by the way,

we have played 3 big games so far, this season in the EPL

    and TV5 has played all 3 ….hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  82. Fozzie B says:

  83. 17highburyterrace says:

Gibbs backpass leads to Chelsea corner…Not good…but we defend it. Pitch looks a little slow…nothing much happening early…

  84. AB says:

Feeling nervous here. This is big tonight. Come on boys, show us what you are really capable of. COYG!!!!!

  85. Dylan says:

    Come on boys. Get possession.

  86. AB says:

Our full backs seem to be feeling nervous too….

  87. 17highburyterrace says:

Theo trying to dribble through 2 defenders fails and Chelsea make the first real chance…Lampard almost whiffs it however… 😀 …

  88. 17highburyterrace says:

Not a whistle yet so the tempo will naturally increase…We’re doing some goofy passing thus far…

OK better possession there…and we get our first corner…

  89. 17highburyterrace says:

Wasted. (Theo’s corner catches the wind and sails over everybody…) C’mon fellas…1st Whistle is for Torres fouling BFG…

  90. 17highburyterrace says:

20 mins in and we’re starting to push the game more to our liking. Still no chances. Anybody got anything to say?…

Uh oh, better there from Chavs and they win a corner…called off for too much pushing…

  91. alexgunners says:

i feel that we definitely need to score the first one, otherwise chavs will park the bus and play against us on the counter

  92. AB says:

Agreed; we have to score first here. Looks like a long night at the moment…

  93. AB says:

A good test though – can we get through a good team who are parking the bus? With our quality of midfield we should create chances – can we complete though?

  94. 17highburyterrace says:

Really nice run and cross from Sagna…Corner…

  95. alexgunners says:

Sagna has easily been our best player so far

  96. alexgunners says:

We do have the talent in our midfield but we are not being given the space. We need to show more initiative and try to open them up

  97. AB says:

Alex – this is where the player we paid £42M needs to find a way through, that little bit more than Santi and Ros could offer us

  98. AB says:

    Grief! Lampard again

  99. 17highburyterrace says:

Huge let off–Saved by the bar! Geezus guys…

  100. AB says:

We seem to be unable to hold the ball – and starting to show signs of some panic as well

  101. alexgunners says:

They are looking very dangerous and we do need certain players to stand up and be counted

  102. alexgunners says:

    definitely panicking

  103. 17highburyterrace says:

Smelling salts please! They’re all over our little mistakes… We’ve got to re-settle and get going again…

  104. 17highburyterrace says:

    Arteta is hurt…

    Looked a pen, no?

  105. AB says:

Mike Dean doing us over. Again

  106. James Bond says:

another ref and another day, that was a penalty – 100%

    unlucky, theo .

  107. alexgunners says:

nothing for mikel, this ref is a joke

  108. alexgunners says:

Dean has always been an absolute prick

  109. 17highburyterrace says:

    More backpass troubles….

Arteta is OK…Not even a card on the tackle?… Game going wack-o at the moment…

  110. James Bond says:

half time, can’t come soon enough.

  111. AB says:

Santi on for Ros soon methinks. Unless we ship a goal, in which case Pod gets a run out. We will see if Arteta is ok for the second half as well – would not surprise me if Flam comes on for the next half

  112. AB says:

Rambo struggling with the big games?

  113. James Bond says:

easily the worst player on the pitch by a mile, arghhhhh

  114. 17highburyterrace says:

Rambo doing the scary giveaway thing rather than all those bits we prefer…

  115. alexgunners says:

    no shots on goal atm
And we are playing at home

  116. James Bond says:

rosicky is doing well, Ramsey for Santi .

  117. Highbury Harmony says:

Aye carumba, Theo missing that penalty! Ramsey not having his best day today…

  118. 17highburyterrace says:

Half time… No chances created and a huge let off on Lampard’s shot and Willian straight to Sir Chez…

Seems we’re having trouble with some basic stuff (Theo, Rambo in particular) and trying to do it all with trickery…

Half time talk to sort it out?…

  119. James Bond says:

we are playing with the hand brake on , again.

Ramsey is looking like a real liability at the moment, maybe some AW dressing room talk will do him good ? either way, bring on Santiago and let him play through the center, since we need Ozil a bit further up the pitch , it’s a tactical switch that will serve us well

  120. Highbury Harmony says:

I meant in the penalty area…

  121. James Bond says:

BBC Sport Chief Football Writer Phil McNulty at the Emirates
    HALF-TIME – Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
“Let’s be very charitable and say that was largely undistinguished. Jon Obi Mikel was very fortunate not to escape punishment for a dreadful challenge on Mikel Arteta while Arsenal felt they had serious penalty claims as Willian clashed with Theo Walcott.

“It’s all bubbling under a bit so let’s hope for better after the break.”

  122. James Bond says:

Join the debate at #bbcfootball – Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Dominic O’Caollai: Re: Walcott penalty incident. It’s a contact sport, the “entitled to go down because there was contact” argument is ludicrous!

Mike Green: Sorry Mike Dean but you just missed a blatant penalty.

Ashtag: How was that not a penalty? – Willian kicked Walcott in the leg.

Text us on 81111 – Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
JB: Blatant red card and a definite penalty in one minute. Is the ref even watching?

  123. Highbury Harmony says:

We often seem to lack something in general when Ramteta start in the dual pivot. Am I the only one who thinks this?

  124. James Bond says:

that JB, isn’t me by the way.

they are neutral supporters enjoying the Arsenal vs Chelsea one, on the beeb

  125. 17highburyterrace says:

Those two boom-boom moments look like Mike Dean is really against us. Frankly I’m amazed that Arteta was able to continue… Also, replay shows Lampard pulled him back to get open on the volley off the bar. We’re riding our luck and they look plenty comfy playing us on the break. Nothing is coming off for anybody, but esp. Giroud, Theo and Rambo…

We need a big turnaround, but quick!

  126. James Bond says:

we are not lacking only just that @ HH

it’s difficult when you play against 12 men, week in week out in general.

  127. Fozzie B says:

Hi guys, told you that Mikel would foul Arteta! Ref doesn’t have any cojones!! He better not grow a pair and give a decision against us!! We are lucky not to be 1-0 down but we should have got a pen. That definitely would have been given at Stamford bridge!!! Booooo!!!

  128. 17highburyterrace says:

HH, lovely to have you around…

Frankly, I’m happiest when Ramsey is in a more forward spot–so that he’s thinking all attack and not the “ambitious” backwards pass he seems to like when he’s in the pivot… It’s possible that Arteta might take a sub here…That was quite a hit he took!

Giroud looks a bit like he’s running on an ice pitch rather than just a wet one tonight…

Lucky to be nil-nil…I’d take the draw but I’ll continue to hope for more…

  129. James Bond says:

Ramsey starts exactly where he left off from, playing poorly…misplacing a simple pass and throw to chelsea.

  130. Highbury Harmony says:

    Cheers 17ht :).

I agree that Ramsey seems to be more comfortable playing alongside Flamini as he’s not as concerned with defensive responsibility and can push forward more confidently.

  131. 17highburyterrace says:

Basics just not happening and we’ve got ZIPPER issues…

  132. AB says:

You just feel Chelski will score on the counter at some point in this game. Can we make our possession count? And show some real penetration? Not looking promising at the moment. COYG!!!!!

  133. James Bond says:

fcuking shoot from outside the fcuking box, for crying out loud

  134. alexgunners says:

We cannot string together some passes today.
some bad decisions made by us, forcing the pass or just panicking under pressure.

Whether we lose to these C@#ts or Norwich, it doesn’t matter, it is still 3 points so lets play the Arsenal way not this Jekyll/Hyde shit

  135. AB says:

At least Spuds have been forced to give Sherwood a contract!

  136. James Bond says:

AW – make a substitution already.

  137. geoffchase says:

No, you are not the only one! I’m not sure why but somehow Arteta and Ramsey don’t “fit” .. I love Arteta as a player but don’t know the cause but it’s there from the high overall team view. To me at least..

    Cheers — jgc

  138. Fozzie B says:

And there’s Mikels partner in crime Ramires!! Against Arteta!!

  139. Highbury Harmony says:

Agreed jgc, he seems to be lacking the burst we need to play free flowing football, which in turn affects us defensively as he cannot recover when he does go forward!

Finally some justice and the yellow shown to Ramires (a more important player to get a booking than Mikel).

  140. 17highburyterrace says:

007, you’re sounding a bitch twitchy there…Early subs, shots from outside of the box…Who are you kidding?… 😀

On the plus side, I’m starting to feel that Chelsea might not be clinical enough at the end of their breaks…

Dean telling Arteta to get up…Nothing happening here…No, a yellow…That’s an improvement!

  141. Highbury Harmony says:

And then makes up for it with a yellow to Theo. Lol this ref…

  142. AB says:

Not sure what is up tonight. Fatigue is not a factor; fear might be sadly. Not a single shot on target yet. Sub needed.

  143. Highbury Harmony says:

Love it Ozil! Get in that f*cker’s face!

  144. James Bond says:

nearing bitch twitchy time @ 17HT

ah, fight fight fight , Ozil , get in there – that’s the spirit !

  145. 17highburyterrace says:

Facerake with the boot…This is why Ivanovic gets bitten…

  146. geoffchase says:

    Argh… F F F …. Let’s pre empt the game for a 7 year old rugby documentary on sky 1

  147. James Bond says:

how was that not a red card ? ? ? way too bloody high, have seen those given as reds before …

  148. Highbury Harmony says:

LOL how did Rosicky get a yellow for THAT?!

  149. James Bond says:

fucking hell, the ref’s a wanker

    let us all sing

    the ref’s a fucking wanker

  150. alexgunners says:

    IVANOVIC you diving C#@T

  151. James Bond says:

take off Rosicky, Ramsey @ AW

do it Pronto and bring on Poldi and Santiago

  152. alexgunners says:

    Good call

  153. AB says:

And now Cheslki bringing on more attacking options. Don’t like the look of this now

  154. James Bond says:

ok, it’s official – AW tactically is neither here nor there.

what are you going to do to change the game @ AW – NOTHING.

    let it continue, sure.

  155. geoffchase says:

    Finally a stream

Bad but I can count,.. Chelsea have the kitchen sink back too!

They are waiting for our mistake….

    Geez — jgc

  156. AB says:

    That was our chance

  157. Highbury Harmony says:

    God damn it Giroud!

  158. 17highburyterrace says:

    Oh my Ollie…

  159. James Bond says:

are we the home team ?

big fat 0 shots on target, all 3 attacking subs warming up the bench with 10 minutes to go.

    need I say more ? : )

reactive manager, is there ever was one

and Giroud does what he knows best, miss a golden opportunity to score

at least hit the bloody target for once ?

  160. James Bond says:

ok, it’s bitch twitchy time now…

  161. 17highburyterrace says:

I would never have guessed, Bond, from your earlier comments… 😉

  162. Highbury Harmony says:

To be fair to the sub situation, Poldi isn’t healthy yet and I’m assuming Santi is being rested for West Ham in place of Ozil.

  163. James Bond says:

    give it a few minutes now @ 17HT – we’ll score.

wow, 3 players warming up, I reckon we will bring them on, once the game is finished.

  164. 17highburyterrace says:

Yeah, AW doesn’t want to break up the group?…

Dean at least bails Verm out of a little mess…

  165. geoffchase says:

    First mistake loses!

    It’s Maureen’s game

    — jgc

  166. James Bond says:

and what’s the reason for not bringing on Bendtner @ HH ?

  167. James Bond says:

Giroud misses another GOLDEN opportunity to score,

  168. 17highburyterrace says:

That was decent, esp. from Gibbs…

hard to believe we aren’t using subs…

  169. geoffchase says:

IMO, we’ve the same issue with TV vs Kos, and one not quite fitting

    — jgc

  170. 17highburyterrace says:

Credit to Cech on the save, I think, Bond…

3 Chelsea subs…no Arsenal subs…Seems a fear element or extreme lack of confidence, which is the same thing…

  171. geoffchase says:

    Agreed 17!

    Sorry JB

  172. Highbury Harmony says:

JB, because Bendtner is a sack of sh*t hahaha!

  173. Highbury Harmony says:

This match has been rather difficult to watch…

  174. 17highburyterrace says:

Poor from Sicky to lose possession, good d from Verm…

Still floored that we’re not using fresh legs…

  175. geoffchase says:

Credit to lousy conditions we are trying!

  176. James Bond says:

yep, replays showed that and as usual we find Giroud sulking.

we have a corner to score now, come on Arsenal

    come on you goooners!!!!!!!!

    let’s do this

  177. Highbury Harmony says:

    Well taken corner there!

  178. James Bond says:

    off the line, oh nooo

  179. Highbury Harmony says:

Not Theo’s in case anyone was wondering

  180. geoffchase says:

    Cleared off the line!

  181. James Bond says:

school boy free kick given by Sagna

    this could be costly.

  182. AB says:

    last minute corner to C…..

  183. James Bond says:

    no longer TOTL, people

it’s start the engine time and we were quite frankly not at the races today, doesn’t help when you’re playing against 12 men, but there you go

no worries, we will be back to the top on thursday after beating WHU 🙂

  184. geoffchase says:

Well! … At least we tried to play football today!

The point is good I reckon!

    Cheers — jgc

  185. 17highburyterrace says:

    Full time… nil-nil… I’ll take it, I fear…

Hard to say what (TF) the manager is thinking…playing 11 vs 14…

Conditions were such that it’s hard to read much into things…Too many basic errors…

In the end, I think we’ll be credited with a shot on goal… 🙄

  186. AB says:

Yup, can’t complain too much about a point. Shame about Giroud in front of goal. Not getting 3 against Everton is now costing us – I didn’t expect much from the last 2 games. But feel disappointed by the performance tonight; a poor showing, and should have been better after a long rest and on the back of the City game. Confidence low I fear – in the team and in this corner as well. Hey ho – better than a loss chaps.

  187. alexgunners says:

You have to question why did we not make any substitutions.

Are we satisfied not to lose? (not a good mentality)
Do we have to rest players for the next game? (our squad is simply not deep enough)

We are sitting in 2nd atm but everything is so tight and any lack of confidence or doubt will put us where the spuds belong.

  188. proudgooner says:

im quite happy with a point, with the ammounts of shots on goal and even more the 1s on target it was a game we could have easierly have lost.
Plus i just cheacked the fixture list coming up and all our rivals have a tough fixture list and ours is quite easy , by end of Jan we should be at tyhe top by a few points.

  189. Admir says:

Maybe my head is still warm but you’ll have to pardon me – I had a chance to make love with my stunning wife but I opted for watching Mike Dean screwing us from behind instead.

Dean or not Dean, say whatever you want but we need a new striker ASAP. I don’t care if that world-class finisher with some pace is going to be Podolski, Lewandowski, Benzema, back-from-retirement-Ian Wright, Diego Costa or even Džeko – we need someone who can actually score in big matches. Number of chances Giroud has spurned so far in big matches should force Wenger to sign someone in January.

Oh, one more thing: Wenger obviously has a complex whenever he sees Mourinho. It’s true that Mourinho has had an upper hand in terms of finances but if bloody Stoke can go out on the bloody pitch and beat bloody Chelsea with that bloody gigolo on their bloody bench, why bloody Arsenal with bloody Wenger on the bloody bench can’t go on the bloody pitch and beat the bloody Chelsea to bloody shite?

  190. Fozzie B says:

Like I said, Walcotts pen would have been given at Stamford bridge .. I’m 90% sure of it. Weather neutralised the game in their favour as we couldn’t attack as slickly as normal. Frankly, I thought Chalvski deserved the win. In extremely disappointed in Wenger’s tactics and lack I plan B and use of subs. Really can’t get the subs at all? Just for 20 mins to show some intent? Once again Jose grabs Wenger’s cojones and he politely coughs and job done to Chelsea. Wenger said “you must win the big games at home” this week and then backed it up with this??
Well done Maureen you wily dog you!!

  191. proudgooner says:

Alex imo no shame in drawing against a team that won the CL 2 seasons ago, it was a very good point

  192. James Bond says:

you have to question a lot of things @ Alex

I mean really, are we going to use conditions as an excuse ? both teams had similar conditions, we knew they would park bus, yet they had more chances and clear cut chances than us

fair enough, we were up against it with the ref’s , but still, we could have and should have done better

I keep saying this and will say it again, AW is a reactive manager and not a proactive one, this is something he needs to look at – it’s his team

we had Poldi and Santi sat there, with Bendtner, I don’t care if we play again in 2 days, we just had a 9 day rest.

  193. Fozzie B says:

When was the last time we used no subs at all?

  194. proudgooner says:

I dont know about that i think we finished the stronger of the 2, a draw was fair.
In Arsene i trust! If we had of lost that game it could have had a very very bad effect on the team, club and the fans right now. Just imagine how we would feel right now. So not bringing any subs on is fine with me even though i would have done.

  195. alexgunners says:

A point is better than no point, i agree. I just feel that we need to find the core problem with our squad. Whether it is confidence, the intimidation they feel playing against the bigger clubs, whatever it may be.
We can’t expect to win without pressuring them and keeping them on the back foot. We need more shot at goals, we need dominant displays. Like king Henry said, you need to have that hunger that mongrel inside you that makes you win at all costs

  196. proudgooner says:

Look what happened when we played city and we went to gun hoo, city smashed 6 past us, what would you lot prefer a draw or a lose lol

  197. James Bond says:

a team that fluked the CL 2 seasons ago and finished 6 in the EPL ?

a team that had no Drogba , no Cole ? really @ PG

IF we play like that at home and don’t send out a statement of intent then really, you do have to question a lot more than what Alex has done there,

Jose’s team is not good enough to be finishing top 3 this season but since he’s a fantastic tactician, he’s got this team only 2 points from being top of the table – all credit to him for that

yet , we have a team that should be sitting pretty at the top, playing with fear and a Striker up front that spends more time sulking than taking his chances and being clinical – that guys and guys, is the fine margins we’re talking about in big games.

PS: I know, I know, we got done by the ref, but this is keeping that aspect aside for now.

  198. alexgunners says:

Nothing wrong with questioning what is happening with our beloved club. IMO not using substitutes tells me that he is resting most of the players on the field today. The core of the starting eleven for the next game were sitting on the bench.

We have been saying it for quite some time here that we need a player that can change a game. Today we needed that spark and nothing happened. We can’t just rely on Ozil. If he is having an off day or is being tightly marked, then what?? We need others to stand up and be counted, that is all i am asking for

  199. proudgooner says:

I agree with that totally , i feel city and chealse are a phyically more impossing team and it can feel like boys v men but it is getting better they are improving, it was a good point after a tough very tough fixture month, that is done now and they have tough games it will work out well i think

  200. James Bond says:

can’t believe you just mentioned City ? you do realize that City could have easily scored 12 goals ? they played exactly how you’re suppose to play at home, without fear

you can not compare our home form with city’s –

Chelsea didn’t come here to win, and it showed with their team selection, however, in the 2nd half, he put out his team to win and made a couple of attacking substitutions , showing intent of least knicking the game, where as we were happy with the way things were on cruise control.

  201. macko says:

Giroud is a very very big shit !!!!!!!
Arsenal continued to performing poorly far too many inaccuracies which costs us even more expensive tonight …..
why not make a change I do not understand they say we play for the title but when we look playing we see soon joined Account.tonight we lose our top spot on a mediocre game, I hope we can recover quickly …
we need to buy a real striker a defensive midfielder is also an obligation because aside Flamini we have no one Arteta et Ramsey they do not have the stature to play such a position (even if Arteta has not made a bad match).
I think our excuse for our game tonight will storm on the stage …… (No comment)

  202. Fozzie B says:

They looked the more dangerous team going forward and that is definitely not right PG twice as many shots and twice as many shots on target … Wenger should have shown some intent, even if it was bringing on Podolski and Santi .. Poldi needs minutes anyway. I’m guessing Santi will take Ozils place against WHU … But still it’s just 20 mins …..

  203. proudgooner says:

Do you really think a team can fluke a way all the way to the final of the CL and win it??? It was no fluke there tactics were great.

  204. Admir says:

We have 36 points and two more away games in 2013. We should beat Big Fat Ugly Sam but against Newcastle we’ll play against the team that won at the Old Trafford, at White Hart Lame and against the Chavs at home. We must restore our winning form and forget about this terrible period I’ve called The Fortnight of The Living Dead even before it had started.

If there was anything positive in this match, it was the fact that TV5 got his 90 minutes without conceding. We didn’t lose and we are looking at the Scousers’ ugly behind only because of our goal-difference which is mostly because they have a world-class striker and we don’t.

  205. proudgooner says:

shit sorry jusdt noticed caps cant be arsed to rewrite lol

  206. James Bond says:

what tactics ? it was all luck, that year for them @ PG – leave that aside, they finished 6th in the EPL and how can you compare a team that has won something 2 years ago with the team of today, that has no Drogba and no Cole ? mind boggling – comparison that

OMG @ Macko’s Giroud is very very big shit ahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahhahahahaa

i’m sure he didn’t mean that, it’s google translator playing up but oh my days ahahahahahahhaahhaahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaa

it’s not Giroud’s fault @ Macko, the manager picks up the team, he is the one to be blamed not poor Giroud, we all know about his limitations rather well now .

  207. proudgooner says:

point is it was a game we were more likely to lose, even more so if we go more attacking so i am happy with the thought that wenger knows best and if he felt the easm on the pitch was our best option then il back him. its a good point 😉

  208. proudgooner says:

ok i have made my point, agree to disagree, i have nothing else to say on it. I was nervous about this match before hand and as much as i wouuld have loved to beat them a point is a good point end off.

  209. James Bond says:

    fair enough @ PG

  210. AB says:

A point is OK when we look at this through strictly mathematical lenses. But the performance and spirit were the problem tonight. We did not look fresh or up for it, or like a team that thought we deserved to be champions or respected on our home pitch. The steel and passion were not there; and that concerns me more than the fact we have to look up the table at bloody Liverpool! We need to get the pride and drive back, and fast, or ground will slip away from us. Not sure what the missing ingredient is here – I’m not in the ‘just blame Giroud’ camp, it came from all over the team. OGAAT I guess, and lets hope for something much better against the Ham…..

  211. James Bond says:

    agreed @ Admir

  212. James Bond says:

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta: “You could see that Chelsea only wanted to defend and we wanted to win the game. You know that Chelsea can counter-attack well but we controlled the game.

“I haven’t seen the challenge from John Mikel Obi again but my ankle is swollen big time. He broke my shinpad and he was late. The referee had to make the decision and he decided it wasn’t a red card. Theo Walcott is saying that it was also 100% a penalty. We were unlucky tonight.

“It is one of the most difficult seasons to win the league and it will be a big challenge.

  213. Fozzie B says:

I still believe that we would have won in better conditions… But it wasnt to be and I think it was Maureen who showed real intent in the second half and completely neutralised us with his defence.
Nice comment Admir… Could t have summarised it better.
Very, very disappointed in Wemger today

  214. A couple of plus points from behind the sofa….1) we have actually gained a point comparing like for like from last season !. 2) after slipping from first to third we have climbed up the ladder to second !. Negative point…..we are still 4 points worse off like for like than last season !.
Question to the brave BK viewers….you have now seen Everton outplay us at home….City annihilate us and Wengers nemesis mock him…” you still don’t know what it takes to beat me ! “……do you honestly think these are the performances of the next EPL champions ?. Totes need not answer….the last post headline is still in my mind !. hahaha
The only possible exciting times I see ahead for us is………….. the January Transfer Window…..will he or wont he ?

Now go back and sing my Christmas Carol Bastards !. hahaha

  215. James Bond says:

    Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea
Jose Mourinho: “Mikel’s was a hard tackle, an aggressive one. Football is for men – or women with a fantastic attitude.”

love him or hate him, the fcuker has the wood over AW and the ref’s in his back pockets.

  216. James Bond says:

HE WILL in january @ TCM

  217. alexgunners says:

Time to go and prepare for Christmas.

Merry Xmas to all and see you soon around here.
Happy holidays to all your families as well.

  218. James Bond says:

the same to you and your family @ alex

  219. Lets hope it is some SQ, JB
    Merry Xmas , alex. 🙂

  220. proudgooner says:

Just 1 more thought perhaps it was that Jose beat Wenger to the punch by making the attacking subs move which made Wenger think he needed to keep the shape of the team and defence. Podolski as much as i wanted him to come on does not track back very much.
To play Rosicky for 90 mins and to not bring on any sube. Put it this way it is unusual so he must of thought about it and clearly choose not to , so he had his reasons. Most of you seem pissed of with the result just imagine if we had lost. i think it would have mentally really effected the players too.

  221. proudgooner says:

Merry christmas all gooners, don’t get to pissed and cause a scene with the family lol
your only regret it in the morning. lol

  222. TotalArsenal says:

It will not surprise you all when I say I am happy with the point and with Wenger today. Had he made a substitution we would have lost the game, of that I have little doubt. He could not afford to change the cohesion in the team as the Chavs only came to beat us on the counter. The game was one of the poorest I have seen for a long time, but I take the point and now we can focus on our bread and butter games. We are (shared) top of the league again and now we can push on.

To all those who wanted us to play with more attacking intent, and therefore risk, I say tough titties. How many times have we been outcountered by other top teams at the Emirates in recent years. Maureen would have loved it and well done Wenger for not falling for it. A draw is a very good result right now and in ten days time many of you will agree. 🙂

  223. Fozzie B says:

Great Crimbo tune Cockie!! I can see it being number 1 on the Xmas Carol list for Trannys!! Have a good time in Bath Cockie, I know having your annual wash in bath must be quiete a spiritual time for you!! Say hello to that stinking Oscar!! Much like your goodself he doesn’t leave the comfort of his bin (sofa for you) too often .. But at this time of the year the smell gets so bad he levitates out of the bin like david copperfield to Bath!! No doubt a similar thing happens to you Cockie from behind your sofa!! When you start floating off, the Trannys think you are Uzbek Buddha Usamanov reincarnate!! It adds to your persona!! Is that how you manage to do your CockieClaus present drop so quickly?? Haha!!! 😆

  224. macko says:

There are currently no excuses to provide it is much too slow in recovery we always create the same pattern all on the right side or in the axis the other left completely deserted it is very easy for a team like Chelsea contain us too much unnecessary loss of ball and the bad habit of too much carried the ball .
regarding Giroud I wonder how long you are going to excuse At each match his missing at least one genuine caviar 😦 you can say what you want but but when we change a striker then we become strong, one man can sink a team remember Arshavin …… but we’ll talk about in a few time…

  225. TotalArsenal says:

Macko, Giroud was disappointing in his finishing but at least he got himself in scoring positions. If you have a go at him you should have a go at everybody else too, or who did you believe did well today for us? Theo, Ozil, Ramsey, Rosicky, Arteta all under-performed and so did Giroud. Qu’est que tu dis?!

  226. TotalArsenal says:

Arshavin?I Are you for real? How many game defining goals did Arshavin score for us?

  227. proudgooner says:

Here here, i could not agree with you more. So far you are the only person that agrees thatit was a great point and Wenger was right to do what he done.
Merry xmas TA thanks for all your posts and this great site this year 🙂

  228. proudgooner says:

If it was easy to win the EPL then the likes of Hull and Stoke might have won it, Look at Liverpool a giant in the football world, they have never won it ever. Sometimes a draw is a good resuly very good even, i think this is one of them times. This was a must not lose game for me.

  229. TotalArsenal says:

Merry Christmas PG, and well done for keeping the perspective. Maybe in the new year you could write a post for us: would be great! 🙂

  230. proudgooner says:

I have been thinking about writting a post, yes i will do i would like that i have a couple of topics in mind. 🙂

  231. TotalArsenal says:

Excellent PG. We need your positive perspective on things.Take your time though. 🙂

  232. proudgooner says:

I might even do 1 in a week or so because it is current and very important to our the moment.

  233. proudgooner says:

Ok i will do, i need to anyway because i cant type fast and when i try to i miss out words and mis spell. Il let you know thank you.

  234. TotalArsenal says:

Go for it PG – the floor is yours!

  235. TotalArsenal says:

Happy to help with the editing and spell check stuff, PG, so dont worry too much about that.

  236. macko says:

This creates opportunities This is not enough to his level one must conclude the opportunities.
He play for Arsenal not for Montpellier we ask the best of him our top scorer and a defensive midfielder That does not make you react ????

  237. macko says:

Merry Christmas to you English friends I wish you my best wishes 🙂

  238. TotalArsenal says:

And Merry Christmas to you, Macko 🙂

  239. Admir says:

@TA – Arshavin scored a winner at Anfield against Liverpool in 2009-10 and against Barcelona in 2010-11. He scored that lucky winner for us against Swansea to get us first victory in 2011-12. To be honest, I had had some weird belief Arshavin would do better last season before I realized the Russian’s days at the Emirates were numbered.

  240. James Bond says:

nice on @ PG – looking forward to your maiden post

Merry xmas and very happy new year to you @ Glics – have a nice couple of days in Bath.

Merry xmas and a very happy near every to rest of the platoon as well, have a good one everyone

    see you all soon

and Macko, don’t worry about it, I can understand your frustrations but it’s all done and dusted, we will bounce back and come back stronger, Giroud will score a hat-trick on thursday because we are not playing a big team and we play in London 😉 all will be well again ! Merry xmas to you!

  241. James Bond says:

Arshavin , Also won us a last minute penalty against Fulham at 3-3 which Arteta failed to score from

Arshavin also was instrumental in that reading game 7-5 @ Admir

yes, he didn’t deliver what was expected but he was also played out of position.

it was a curious case of Arshavin, for sure, anyway , such is life.

  242. TotalArsenal says:

Well that is all then, Admir. One of the biggest disappointments in terms of value for money.

  243. TotalArsenal says:

Merry Christmas James and keep up the good spirit. 🙂

  244. geoffchase says:

I was with TA and PG before TA posted… I wonder why when very good teams lose to others, waste fully, we think they are shit and should lose to us? So what if Chelsea lost points to Stoke et al? Ours was solid and we had the better opps, but none in today. Equally, Maureen played not to lose and to maybe win… An easier job really… So, of course we looked less effective into 7-8 defenders in two tight cohesive lines… Everyone will…

Good point in shitty weather day

As for ref, well, actually, JB was it(?), was right. IMO, refs are afraid of Maureen like they were of SAF. Away for Chelsea, no way do the home side get that pen call it seems as they don’t want him all over them about favoring the home side. At the bridge, it’s easier for the same reason in reverse.

I’d love to have some of that intimidation factor, or better, less star or fear struck refs… But I prefer what we have in a manager. So, … No wonder our away record is generally better perhaps?

Finally, shots in goal. Who cares? Three near misses that no one would’ve stopped, kare way better then 4 or 100 weak or straight at the keeper. It’s about threat and scoring… The rest don’t matter at all as the rules still say, most in the net wins. Ie doesn’t matter how they get there or how classy they were or weren’t..

It’s a long season, stay calm and have an extra dram of your preference!

    Cheers — jgc

  245. geoffchase says:

    And merry Christmas to all!

It comes here first! 😛 🙂

Cheers — the mad professor it seems!?!

  246. Highbury Harmony says:

TA @ 22:55, well said my friend. I was not overly disappointed with the result today, was just hoping for more. Both sides had chances to score but we looked the more likely to score in the second half. Had it been for better finishing, this game could have been 1-0 to the good guys, even with the lack of attacking intent we showed.

The January transfer window could not come at a better time imo. It seems we’re lacking a little up front and need an injection of some talent to help push us forward. We’ve become too comfortable at the top! Also, during cold spells like OG is currently experiencing, it’d be nice to have another striker that can rotate in and give us some goals.

  247. Highbury Harmony says:

Also, merry christmas to you all! I hope you all enjoy the holidays with your families and keep safe! Thank goodness that the football starts up again soon and we won’t have to wait long to see the Arsenal get back to their ToTL form 🙂

  248. Fozzie B says:

Safe holidays everyone!!! Enjoy time with family!! 😀

  249. Admir says:

Merry Christmas to all of you! 🙂

  250. proudgooner says:

Here here, i agree it was a tight match that we could just as easy have won as lost, the ref let us down badly i feel against the big team we never get the decisions.
Plus points for the match TV5 played well the defence did there job and kept a clean sheet other then v city we still would have the best defence in the EPL a real improvement on seasons gone by.!
Hard fixtures now played and our rivals have to play theres now over the next month, as a result by the end of January i think we could well be up to 5 points clear at the top again. As TA would say its our bread and butter matches coming up so its all good, I wonder how important that point v Chelseas will be at the end of the season.??/ time will tell.

  251. proudgooner says:

Yeah merry christmas all have fun 🙂

  252. proudgooner says:

Im just downloading a film with a blond and a power tool quess what its called.??

  253. 17highburyterrace says:

I got a call from London at the end of the match. My mate thought our line-up was not completely defensive by sitting Flamini but also not a full-fledged attack by playing Rosicky over Santi. Thoughts?

Put me in the group that will happily take the single point as the pressure on us in our own stadium (and against the better teams in theirs…) will only ease over time. Not losing is the biggest priority. That said, I cannot agree about playing 11 vs 14. Can we not work on our shape and closing out a result with a bigger group? In the end, and giving some blame to the conditions, the number of routine touches that were mis-executed seemed very large and quite deflating.

Regarding Macko’s favorite (Giroud)…I’m less concerned with the two late missed chances than the fact that he looked ineffective against the athletic Chelsea defenders, Cahill, Terry and Mikel. Given water spinning off the ball as it was played on the ground, long balls to the big guy *should* have been an approach worth taking. The several we attempted were not scary in the least. Did Ollie (or anybody else) actually get a first touch on any of them? The same goes for set pieces. I can forgive a delivery or two blown by the wind but this is a part of our game where I think we’re regressing. It should be noted that West Ham will be playing for those opportunities and will see them as a likely way to steal a point or three on Boxing day…

Like City before, I’m a bit underwhelmed by Chelsea and disappointed that we can’t seem to get over the hump against these clubs who will surely be improving as the new managers and players come together. Still, baby steps, and not losing was the babiest… 😀

  254. proudgooner says:

    Thor 2 lol

  255. Fozzie B says:

    Do tell PG!! 😆
I agree 17h, I wanted this game to be our statement of intent, but it wasn’t to be. Wenger basically admitted he was scared of losing the game and I’m glad they didn’t, but the fact remains they had a 9day break to refresh and sort out tactics. The plan B today was not to go for the jugular as pyschologically that would have been catastrophic. Mike Dean deserves a few Xmas crackers up his jacksie!! We do not get the rub of the green from the refs in big games and that’s 2 games in a row.

Really hope Wenger can get someone in Jan as his press conference indicated there wouldn’t be any activity… But that can all change!

  256. proudgooner says:

    its called Thor 2 .

  257. Fozzie B says:

Haha PG … Would love Thor’s hammer to go up Deans jacksy!!

  258. proudgooner says:

No one has really said it, but could you imagine if Wenger had managed to get Suarez in the summer what a team we would have, he wanted him as well.
If they is a world class striker to be had i think Wenger will snap him up , he clearly wants 1 🙂

  259. proudgooner says:

ha ha ha ha or just smack him over the head with it. He ruined it for us tonight. Its just not fair your right in the big games we never get the decisions, free kicks and penalties that are rightfully ours to have

  260. 17highburyterrace says:

PG, my mate in London asked the same question (about Suarez)… Problem is he was never for sale and he won’t be (to anybody in England)… Liverpool go to X-mas top of the table so all credit to them (for playing the Suarez issue correctly). With so many teams so close it’s still all to play for and at least we’re in the mix.

Tonight’s match is an acceptable result but (I think) a disappointing performance. Hopefully the team puts it down to the playing conditions and that quick double blast of poor refereeing. The next match is always the most important but we really need to get back to winning (and dominating…) ways quickly…

Sorry, but I still find it very worrisome that we wouldn’t (or–as some would argue–couldn’t…) make substitutions. We need to be able to use the depth of our squad, i.e., our subs, with confidence, whether it be to wrap up a result or go for one. If it was all about not losing then why not send on Nacho and Flams? (Because it would have enraged the support?) Could it be that the edginess Wenger noted in the squad is transmitted from the top down?…

  261. Fozzie B says:

PG – Suarez has a clause in his new contract for Real Madrid and Barcelona but no other clubs … Sad I know …

  262. Fozzie B says:

PG .. For you from last post 😀

    Latest on Ratatouille’s contract clauses
“Chief among those was the right to negotiate an exit if either Real Madrid or Barcelona come in for him at the end of the season.”
    Full article here:

  263. Fozzie B says:

Arsenal’s only victory under Dean’s officiating in the last four seasons came earlier last year, a 5-2 win over Tottenham at the Emirates.

    Played 16- won 1- drawn 6 – lost 9

Stats don’t lie: Dean’s record in the Premier league with Arsenal are shocking? Under 6% win rate … Other top 4 have a 60% plus ratio …

  267. 17highburyterrace says:

Merry X-mas eve, people…May you all enjoy a night as silent as Mike Dean’s whistle…

Cockie, have fun in Bath, try the rose-tints as you luxuriate on your holiday so as to better enjoy the various “sights”… Also, try not to let those 12 days of yours overly haunt you or otherwise bring down your vacations… Certainly those are some striking images of your fellow BKers…Thanks for referencing me in song… As we say up here (passing by the darker, more densely wooded areas…), “Feels pretty Squatchy, eh?” 😀

Yes, Ver-Gerry-nia, there is a Santa Claus–He just didn’t show up at the grove last night. He might’ve had he been a normal home-stadium intimidated referee or a more clinical striker, but conditions were tough and some basics were lacking. At least we didn’t get punished on the various bad back-passes which led to Chelsea corners or on the giveaways leading to counterattacks. And there was one flash of Santa–all in white–in the guise of a crossbar just keeping out a lovely volley from Frank Lampard, by far the best piece of skill seen all night.

Yep, we didn’t use the bench players which brings up many questions about rotation. Were they rested for the West Ham match or were our starters stretched by all having to play the full 90? Whichever way you slice it it seemed very odd and maybe the biggest talking point beyond the others I’ve already mentioned…

Seriously: Merry Merry to all you fairies (as the Foz might say…) Have a great Christmas!!

  268. TotalArsenal says:

Merry Christmas to all fine fellow bloggers on Bergkampesque. I would like to wish you a great time together with family and friends. 🙂

  269. TotalArsenal says:

    Hi 17 🙂

All good comments. I thought we defended the set-pieces well yesterday. The referee was very suspect and he really annoyed me with his time wasting in the second half. He gave no protection to our players during the first half either, which was to the detriment of the game.

  270. Admir says:

Fonzie, just one little correction: Dean had had two games in a row in the Premership in which we won before Chelsea – Wigan last season and Stoke in this one.

  271. The Cockie Monster says:

My thoughts on the game echo TA and young PG. I am very happy with both our progress and current position. I will give more detailed thoughts after I have tracked down and then punished Dean for crimes against humanity.

    Happy Christmas all.

  273. Fozzie B says:

Thanks Admir, thought it was off but not by much! Best post match I’ve read below, really covers all the angles … MUST READ!!

Have a great time In Bath Cornwall. You and your good lady deserve it.

  275. oz gunner says:

Merry Christmas BK’ers. Hope you all have a safe and joyous day with plenty of booze and food!!!

    @ Alex

I hope your first Christmas as a family is one to remember.

  276. Dylan says:

Happy Holidays to all. And Merry Christmas to you European gooners who it is the 25th for! 5 hours to go for me and even longer for 17! 😉 He’ll have to wait extra long for Santa to bring him to bring him his Arsenal Christmas presents. 😉 Anyone else recall that a year ago today, Zaha’s teammate tweeted that he was on his was to Arsenal?!?! Ha! Glad he didn’t now and I bet he wishes he had! 😉

  277. TotalArsenal says:

Merry Christmas Admir, Terry-Merry, Cockster, Ozzer, Fozzer and Dylan. You Christmas present will have to wait till Boxing Day 😉

    Night all

  278. Dylan says:

JB, as someone who plays as a striker, I must defend Giroud. It’s not his fault. He’s a player that needs a partner up top, but he rarely has any support as Ozil likes to go to space out wide. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t work well with a lone striker like Giroud up top. Giroud has every right to sulk as he rarely gets the chances a striker like him would want (open chances in the box) instead, he gets chances that a creative striker like Suarez or someone would want. That being said, he’s not been great the past few games. But I believe it’s mostly down to the lack of support through the middle by Ozil.

  279. Frozen Gunner says:

    @ Dylan
Judging from the Chelsea game alone your assessment of Giroud’s abilities and greater role for the team is far from accurate. Would you call the opportunities that led to his chances (two potential game winners) really that “creative”? Far from it. Honestly, I like Giro… But if he focused a little less on his hair-do and a little more on his finishing then he can start rewriting his (nonexistent) goalscoring record against the top clubs. And by saying he’s the type of striker who would only want open chances in the box — well, that doesn’t really help his case either…
So my question to you is: what top club has a starting forward of this sort?

  280. alexgunners says:

Thanks mate. It certainly has been a wonderful Christmas at our house. Thank you very much.

Hope all has been well for you as well.\Our mission after XMAS is to peg back HH on the UMF, That’s 3 aussies directly behind him.

  281. Gino92 says:

MERRY CHRISTMAS, everyone! Hope Santa Claus (aka Arsene Wenger) is good to the Mighty Arsenal this holiday season and gives us that World Class Striker who can score goals for fun and propels us way up to the next level. A tall, fast, no-nonsense super quality of a Defensive Midfielder will not bad either, but I know, that may just be too much to ask “Santa” for this Christmas. One can always dream though, right? 😀

Have a wonderful Christmas Day! And let’s spank the Hammers tomorrow. It’s been a long while since we’ve put 5 or more goals past an opponent. We really need to not only start winning again but also to start working on our goal differential because, I have a nasty feeling it might come back to haunt us come May.

    West Ham United 1 – 7 Arsenal

    Go Gunners!

  282. Gerry says:

Broadband at last – may be temporary though while the wind has dropped, around here at least.

So happy Christmas to all you BK’ers, and an even happier Boxing Day and New Year!

  283. TotalArsenal says:

Merry Christmas Gerry and Gino the Gooners 🙂

  284. Gerry says:

Well I managed to get the game on the player.

Not a lot to add to what has been said before and above.

The conditions were never going to make the game easy. The criticism of the ref centered on two key moments: The Walcott ‘penalty’; The foul on Arteta.

For me, the former fall into that category of ‘I ‘ve seen them given’ Contact? Yes. But he had lost control of the ball, So it is a foul anywhere else on the pitch, but it was not a goal scoring opportunity, so you tend not to get them by most referees?

The foul was a bad one, and not to come back and give at least a yellow was a mistake. The review, if there is one, will look at two things; He got to the ball and his foot went over the top(withe the conditions allowance, yellow card?); He slid in, kept his leg straight(dangerous tackle, red card?).

Maureen;s ‘cry baby’ comment is pure deflection – He was the first to raise his arms when Rosicky was(rightly) booked.

Otherwise the game was a case of both sides not taking chances. Lampard hit the bar. Giroud shot wide, and had another saved.

Dylan is quite right in saying without support he gets few clear chances for his style of play?.

Frozen Gunner points to his lack of success against top teams, this being another one?

To the former I ask, if we get a supporting player up front, who, from our midfield loses out?

To the latter it is worth pointing out we have played 4 top teams in a row now, which is when the support closer to him would be most needed? But not having that, and a long run of games, these last 4 matches have meant his confidence is not there now, so he snatches at shots he would have put away 6 weeks ago?

    Discuss …

And please no hindsight, picking on players who did not play well. Nor talk of another striker in January, or last summer. AW knows full well that we did not get Suarez, and that vacancy has yet to be filled … and likely will be in January, despite statements made to the contrary?

We have what we have for the next week. WHU next, and my guess is Big Sam will try to use exactly the same tactics; Physical midfield and defend in numbers.

My money will be on Cazorla in for Ozil, Bendtner for Giroud, Flamini for or with Arteta. Probably Monreal for Gibbs(did a lot of running, no criticism), and TV5 to keep his spot at CB.

  285. The Cockie Monster says:

  287. Update on the chipolates saga
After the screaming turnout of the fork in my cock, l then had to endure an Aussie Sheila tourist sledging my chipolata, my chipolata responded by spitting at her and because of the fracas that followed, the police were called which resulted in my cock being put in an identification line-up with 6 other chipolata, which have infamously become known locally as…………..The Magnified Seven !.
My brethren and l will be back to the restaurant tonight in a rematch ……. Return of The Magnified Seven !.
I feel the making of a film coming on , John Terry is already auditioning for the lead role as my prick !. Hahaha

Frozen Gunner, a volley over his shoulder (that’s a fairly creative chance). The other was blocked. That being said, I agree he could do better against the big teams. As for other big clubs with strikers like Giroud:
    City = Negredo and Dzeko
    United = Chicharito
    Chelsea = Ba

You did say starters though, and the above are usually not. With the exception of Negredo. And Negredo has a strike partner in Aguero. This is why I want a striker like Lewandowski or Benzema to PARTNER and not replace Giroud. So fair points Frozen Gunner, but I think you maybe misunderstood some of the things I said. Happy Holidays! 🙂

  289. James Bond says:

    totally disagreed @ Dylan

Ozil, was played as a deep laying midfielder for the last game, where he was told to sit back and let others get into the creative positions – in short, AW was once again done by Jose’s tactics, before the game, Jose was blabbering on about how to stop Ozil and so on, which led to AW reacting and changing his tactics to outdo Jose, hence he was neither here nor there

re- Giroud needing help and so on, you don’t need help when you are set up every game with 2 or 3 solid chances to score, for now he has had more than 6 glorious chances to score, both from his feet, head, and so on , yet he’s not hit the target once – least hit the target , no ? he did however, manage to his Petr cech after Gibbsy’s hard work, not sure If he had even hit that one, but there you go

you expect a striker playing at that level to do plenty better than Giroud – you say that he needs a striker like Benzema or Lewandowski to play alongside with ? I say, no sir

he doesn’t , he needs a striker in the Tevez, Suarez, Cavani, Aguero, Rooney, Lukaku, Benteke mould – and thankfully, AW knows it as well

for now, we have to make the best of what we have and sadly, the best for everyone including Giroud be , for him to be used as a substitute , use him when the other teams tire a little and he doesn’t have to do a lot of dirty work from the start of the game, that might work well

    ahahhahahahahahahahahhahahaha @TCM re- HH ahahahahahahahahaahahah @ 10:49

  290. James Bond says:

and that wasn’t a volley, he had to take the first time, ala Podolski – he let the ball bounce, reached it, had the keeper come out and well beat due to the angle and all he had to do was to hit the target and it would have crept in, comfortably

sadly, due to him not being clinical enough, he put it wide due to his killer instinct or a pacier than usual Emirates pitch due to rain, either way – it Rains in U.K 10 months out of 12 on a regular basis.

FG, good points, but you forgot his sulking abilities as well.

sorry Dylan, but neither Negredo nor Hernandez are like Giroud either, in fact , I think it’s a good shout if both Hernandez and Giroud played together, Hernandez is that fox in the box that we need and could compliment Giroud’s style of play more

  291. TotalArsenal says:

    Nananananananah nananananah Gieeeeerouhoo!

I am with you Dylan. 🙂

  292. James Bond says:

and now I’m beginning to feel lonely on xmas day, yikes

  293. TotalArsenal says:

    Hi JB 🙂

We all know Giroud is not the most clinical striker, but he is a damn good holding striker. Others have to play near him to create and take chances, and did not happen enough on Monday. I was more disappointed in our attacking midfielders than OG.

  294. James Bond says:

    Hello Skipper 🙂

don’t be disappointed in our attacking MF’s , it was all down to AW’s tactics or shall we say, Jose’s mind games ? either way, Santiago playing tomorrow and Ozil being rested will tell us a lot more.

you know things are not right, when TV5 bombs forward and tries to create something for the team after he’s had enough : ) that was a massive positive for me by the way, TV5 had a very decent game !

  295. Fozzie B says:

Haha Cockie!! A very wise friend of mine recommends covering your todger in jam when being put in a line up for the Magnified Seven!! Haha!! Will make you stand out from the crowd for sure!! As it stands after recent performances I have lost my dialect gooner boner and have been asked to feature in a lineup tomorrow when I get back to the UK!! MarleyKaze on the other hand has a massive boner from all this kiwi high quality blood!! Who says its like the “real sticky icky!!! No stems no sticks!!” And to others he sells it as the “red meth”!! Haha!! 😆
He has also been asked to feature in the lineup as his todger is believed to be of comparable size!! Hahaha 😆

  296. TotalArsenal says:

    Agreed about TV, JB.

Wenger’s tactics were great, I thought. He really showed the world that if you do not openly attack Maureen’s team, the Portuguese has no answer and the game will die. We almost knicked it at the end and that was the only way to beat them.

  297. James Bond says:

    disagreed @ Skipper

It wasn’t the only way to beat them, in fact I thought AW would be the wiser and may find a way after 10 fruitless meetings to actually get a favourable result at home, but it was not to be.

the onus was on us to play our usual way, but here were we, playing exactly how Jose wanted us to play and dictated terms.

of course, it could have been a different story had the F ref, officiated in an unbiased way and we wouldn’t be left talking about Wenger’s tactics or finding faults in our own team 🙂 but anyhow, we can’t control the ref’s ( sucks not being chelsea or man city- sometimes, ha )

I was thinking the other day, that maybe we would get more penalties, If we started diving more instead of being on our feet and honest ? I have hardly seen anyone credit us with staying on our feet and playing football, no one appreciates that aspect of our game and the right manner we play the game in – there is something either seriously wrong with us or seriously right with most of the fickle pundits out there.

  298. TotalArsenal says:

Maureen only has one tactic against the top team: absorb and counter. Wenger did really well not to play along and for that I salute him. Had we played our normal game, we would have lost. As I said on Monday, this draw will suit us well and in seven days time it will look even better. 😉

  299. Fozzie B says:

Hey JB, Totes, Dylan et al. Agreed biggest positive was Verminator!
As much as Wenger lacked Cojones, Maureen paid far too much respect to us as we were there for the taking!! Ultimately Maureen still won … 10 games on the spin without losing to us and with possibly his weakest team and one of our stronger ones in recent times. Mourinho stated afterwards that he was happy to see the ball given to Arteta, because he was doing nothing really creative with it. Usually it went to one of the full backs. There was no way we were going to play it through the Chelsea midfield.

For most of the match our attacking was slow and ponderous. Chelsea may have shipped a few goals this season, but they were quite capable of containing an Arsenal attack that wanted a couple of minutes to get everything just right, and would rather pass the ball into a crowded penalty area than attempt a shot from 20 yards.
With Ozil sitting deep we couldn’t spark anything high up the pitch so as JB says, we played into Maureen’s hands as he nullified our biggest threat!
As I predicted Mikel and Ramires got stuck into Zorro. It was too predictable I’m afraid, and maybe one day le prof will work it out??
A massive shame that Rambo was off his chops!
Hoping for good subs for WHU as Geordies will be a very hard game!
Rested: Ozil, Arteta, Rocky, Gibbs, Sagna, Giroud. In: Carzola, Flame, Pod, Nacho, Jenks, Bendtner.
Doubt we will get all those but I would like it .. With Giroud, Arteta on later if chasing 😀

  300. TotalArsenal says:

    Hi Cockie 🙂

When Maureen plays his Portoball against the top teams very few will beat him, and definitely not this Arsenal team – not now. Wenger did not walk in the trap and well done to him for going against his principles. That was class IMO.

  301. TotalArsenal says:

Also, this Chavs team is significantly more expenses than ours lets not forget that. And against the lesser teams he needs to play more open, entertaining football and that’s when they are vulnerable. Against top teams they play
Portoball and they will not get beaten quickly, neither will they win many without a Drogba type. Away draws against us, Pool, Spuds and Manure back this up.

  302. Fozzie B says:

Hi Totes, the only thing Wenger did right is not to lose to Maureen. That would have crippled the teams spirit IMO… So I personally wouldn’t class that as classy. He did handle the post match very well however and handled that with class as he didn’t let Maureen get under his skin with the “cry baby” rib or the retort to boring football … “They haven’t beat us in 10 games”. Your right … Very proud of how that was handled.
But Wenger had 9 days to prep for this game. As you rightly say… We all knew how Maureen would play this … Even I .. A furry muppet went so far as to predict his top tactic of Mikel and Ramires on Arteta!
So Wenger with this time to prepare comes up with the tactic to have Ozil the creator to play deep? And if there were no chances being created why not make the changes required? Bring Flame on and push Ozil forward to support Giroud?
No his tactic, was to keep shape and shut up shop. A Bayern Munich approach at home?? Too much respect to Chelvski!
He should have had that approach for Man City and he might have for something from it?
Also as far as weather is concerned … He had at least 72hours minimum to prepare for that eventuality as well … Which surely might have dictated that the ball would skid too much for Walcott so why not change that BEFORE the game?
I don’t discount the result or the importance of it on the big scheme of things but to me that was not a good performance … Not by the team as a whole .. But by the manager.
I do not rate our chances back at Stamford Bridge I’m afraid.
    Still onwards and upwards!! 😀

  303. Fozzie B says:

Ps, did you call me Cockie? He is getting his Hampton examined at Bath Police station as part of a special CockieClause Christmas investigation!! Apparently after his annual bath he had a strange pinching sensation in his spleen!! Mrs CockieClaude donned her favourite latex glove … (She has a few … 😆 the kinky wotsit) and proceeded to retrieve a Buddha … later to be identified as Buddha Usmanov!! The police found out after further probing that all the tranny reindeer also had these Buddhas in their jacksies!!
Apparently Cockie got the Trannys in the annex so catatonic in the CockieKrishna trance that they ran out of incense sticks and that only left the Buddhas!!! Hahahaha!! 😆 😆
Looks like the Uzbek kept nice and warm this Crimbo!! Haha!! 😆

  304. Fozzie B says:

    *Mrs CockieClause

Evening Bergkampesueres, hope you all had a Merry Christmas. TA high on copious amounts of spliff and Fozzie having his extension sucked by a Mosquito.

    TA & Fozzie

Wenger is a legend and master of the Universe. About a year ago i had a discussion about tactics with TA on how I believe Arsene does nto oer care with them. He may tinker slightly biy his philosophy is paramount and his teams will always approach the game based on his general blueprint

Mourinio is the oppisite. A great tactician who will employ any system he sees fit to win on the day.

My peronal view is that in the long run Arsenes philosopy will win the day. It develops a football club from within and leaves a legacy and tradition to any succesor. Mourinios approach does not.

Whilst we have to be paitent to see the glorious future benefits of Arsenes approach, Mourinio is all about today

I will leave you with this. The most disapointed man on how Chelsea approached the Arsenal game was not any of us, it was Mr Abramovitch. The pact between the two men was that for Morinio to get the job he “must” play an expansive attractive game

I am not saying this put of spite or dislike for Jose, but the simple fact is that he will not be in the Chelsea job for long. He is working for a meglamaniac and the clock is ticking.

Arsenes approach is the right and correct one. Lets all get behind our great manager, a man who is not just focused on himself but for the betterment of the club we love.

Thats why I get upset when people disrespect Arsene. They are kncoking a man who is building them a house and laying the foundations of there future footballing joy and entertaiment

If you love Arsenal, then honour and respect Arsene Wenger

  306. TotalArsenal says:

Cheers Cockie, we have to agree to disagree about Wenger’s performance and tactics. Maureen supported by fucker Dean is a pest and sometimes we have to fight fire with fire. Wenger played him at his game for which I salute him.

In 4-2-1-3 Ozil has to play between midfield and attack and come deep regularly – not sure whether that’s was a specific tactic for this game as this is how Ozil should always play in the ‘1’ IMO.

  307. TotalArsenal says:

And if Maureen decides to play football against us in the away game, we’ll smash them.

  308. James Bond says:

sorry Skipper but I beg to differ with most, if not all the above you’ve presented.

why ? quite simply put, we were better man for man against that chelsea starting 11 minus 2, maybe

that was the weakest chelsea team , we’ve played to date and possibly our strongest team for years against them.

in short, it’s agree to disagree on this one.

Fozzie makes some good and valid points, and Fozzie – I think the real positive came after the game, When Jose.M gave it all away by revealing ” They let Arteta have the ball and let him pass it side ways” – was he being Cocky ? was he being cheeky ? was it mind games ? no sir, he was being honest, and by doing so, he has given a lot of food to thought to not only AW but also to Arteta – he was once a creator , no harm in him igniting that side of his whenever the opportunity presents itself… sometime ago, he used to spread the ball across the field with long passes forward, that has gone out of his game completely and hence he has become very predictable and one dimensional, much like most of our Engine (MF).

in Arteta’s defence, i didn’t really fancy him starting this game as Flamini would have made much more sense ..another one of the games where AW had questionable tactics, this is now 3 games in a row for me (Naples, Man City and now Chelsea after a 9 day break).

    baffling really

  309. TotalArsenal says:

Exactly Terry, Wenger exposed Maureen’s weakness by not playing along. Short term pain long term gain 😛

  310. James Bond says:

    Hi Terry –

no one is disrespecting AW, however, we all watch football with our own specs sometimes and most of us gooners would make splendid managers ( on xbox , ps3 or video games) , no doubt 🙂

jokes aside, AW makes mistakes and sometimes the decisions he makes are beyond baffling, no harm in questioning or discussing those decisions, I reckon

but yes, he’s done a great job thus far and like TA says, this 1 point earned may pay dividends in a weeks time or at the end of the season, however, It was Xmas and our Xmas wish to bag all 3 points 😉 which we will do and take it all out on WHU by thrashing them with your favourite scoreline 5-0

Why are you baffled Bondy? Its not a question of the minute tactical details, Arsene doesnt operate like that. He has a general blueprint that will eventully reap dividends

By tinkering to much he threatens to damage the very DNA he is hoping to utilise.

All great footballing dynasties are based on a philosophy and ethos and thats what Arsene is trying to create at Arsenal.

  312. TotalArsenal says:

I let you love Maureen, JB. Arteta was so weak that they decided to kick him constantly….. He actually played a good game in the deeper position.

Bondy, please do not feel that i put you in any category that I find unsavoury, that would be riddiculous

On the contary, for what its worth, I put you on the highest echelon of support. Your enthusiasm and desire for Arsenal to succeed is boundless, and I admire you for it.

Yes, you question and can sometimes critiscise, even blow a fuse. But I enjoy your views so keep it going.

  314. James Bond says:

baffled for the very same reason @ TMHT

we did not play with that philosophy you speak off on the very day – I just don’t believe the notion, that you can’t defeat Jose’s team by sticking to your guns, because teams like Barca and Dortmund have proved it

we went to Man city and played their game , when some would say, we should have had the approach we had this monday , where as when we’re at home, we play with the handbrake on.

no love there, he’s the manager most love to hate , however, he is brilliant tactically and there is no harm in acknowledging that.

Also, Arteta played the best he could with very little protection, but that is to be expected when you play in the EPL, no ? every week we get the same treatment, if it’s not JW at the receiving end then the opposition try to target someone else.

we got to find a way to deal with it.

  315. TotalArsenal says:

He is good tactically JB, but he cannot play attractive, attacking winning football against the big teams which is a major weakness.

Yes, we were cautious Bondy, but the blueprint is there. Think of there midfield three and then ours.

We hit a brickwall against there organised defence and the only team that had the opportunity to counter was them

We showed good intelligence, without sacraficing our principles. Playing them the other night was akin to handling a rattle snake

  317. TotalArsenal says:

You nutshelled it with that last paragraph, Teethy Terry 🙂

  318. James Bond says:

oh yes, agreed with that totally @ TA

and cheers Terry, but hey, you nailed it with the dynasty bit and I reckon, the next 5 years will be exactly that, we will not only be top of the tree but will be the team to beat in Europe as well, along the lines of Bayern Munich e.t.c e.t.c e.t.c

also, TA – in a way , he showed us a lot of respect by benching both Mata and Oscar, I doubt if there is any manager in the world, in their rightful mind to even think of doing that – was rather shocking but hey, it keeps his team in the hunt , for how long ? remains to be seen.

  319. James Bond says:

I wonder, what’s the procedure of getting a ref to stop officiating any teams matches ?

Chelsea did that thing with Mark . Clatterburg (?) – Racial thing with Mikel ? he doesn’t officiate their matches any more or didn’t for quite a bit ?

Yes, someone needs to do something about this brilliantly deluded and biased referee or simply find his address and forward it to Terry and co, ha

  320. TotalArsenal says:

    Agreed JB

Abramo gives him all these toys to showcase and Maureen puts two butchers in midfield and fwat Fwank in a defensive role. He was counting on Wenger playing full on attacking football and kill us off via quick rebounds. I would have hated losing that way on Monday

  321. TotalArsenal says:

Public exposure of his bias and mistakes seems the only way, JB. He was a total disgrace.

  322. Fozzie B says:

Hi Stretch! Great words there and I need to clarify that I’m not disrespecting Wenger in any way, I’m a full believer in his philosophy and the house which I hope he can build on the 10 year self imposed stadium austerity measures. The man is a genius and I can’t wait to see how the next 3 years unfold and hopefully longer.
It’s just that I had hoped and do hope to see more “problem solving” in his philosophy.
Shots on target must be improved across all games IMO. We didn’t press properly in the Chalsvki game and there was huge space behind the midfield.
As JB mentioned, we are too predictable at times and this how we lose or draw games and especially against the top teams, where there is quality and decent management we are struggling, and AW himself recognises this.
So looking forward to some kind of improvement here in the second half of the season, because we do need to start beating the big boys at some stage. In my head I thought we were 2 year away from winning the league and I still stand by that. Would love to be proved wrong of course and it just shows with one or two SQ signings it can happen. Most pundits agree it would be goodnight nurse if we had of got ratatouille … But that ship has sailed and we need a master Ozillike stroke from Wenger to accelerate the timeline!! Nice blogging all in all on Crimbi!! Beer in hand and sun setting with MarleyKaze in full Crimbo attire getting ready for another kiwi hit!! Haha 😆

  323. Fozzie B says:

Good points on Maureen facing an uphill battle with Abramabitchs “sexy football”. Be interesting alright to see how long he lasts!
JB surely Arsenal can complain? They have lawyers that can advise? That’s 2 in a row and there must be repercussions such as that chump who refereed the AV game at the start if the season got … He got dropped completely … Are these so called “big wig” refs like Dean above the law??

  324. TotalArsenal says:

I wrote a post on Wenger and Maureen after the game but will issue it later this week – we can discuss this further then 😀
    Night all

  325. Fozzie B says:

    Nice one Totes … Goodnight

  326. Fozzie B says:

‘Boring are a team who play at home and cannot score a goal,’ said Mourinho. ‘You fill your stadium, in weather like we had on Monday, to see victories. If any team were boring, they were boring because Petr Cech made zero saves.’
‘It is not a coincidence that before this game we had time to work,’ said the Chelsea boss. ‘That is something we didn’t have since the summer.

‘I had three days to work tactically and I worked on everything I wanted to: defensive set pieces, attacking set pieces, defensive organisation, transitions, counter attack.

  327. Gerry says:

Good morning all – The dark nights are drawing out now, we are on the march to Spring …

Good little back and forth above.

    I will just add my two penn’rth;

The question of Arteta playing? I still have this feeling that Flamini is working through a problem. If he doesn’t play today, then it is more serious than even I thought.

Arteta did play a few balls forward, not always successfully, but conditions made them all look a bit careless in that respect. Now, had we have played Le Flam, I get the feeling he would have tried to get forwards more, which may have left us exposed down the middle?

Walcott hardly got a look in, not helped by him coming inside a lot, but also they had the tactics to cut him out. Hazard coming back for a two on one mainly. (That usually works).

The other thing to notice was that we attacked far more down the left, again, the Hazard effect keeping Sagna busy (not only TV5 a plus, but another good one from Sagna?). Strange thing was the most passes two and from Gibbs was with Rosicky and surprisingly Giroud, not Ozil?

Nigel Winterburn on the ‘Player commentary commented on another tactical ploy by Maureen. Balls left to right, or right to left wings always went through a midfielder at the halfway point. They closed down that player quickly. That meant we could not switch play at speed. Conditions didn’t allow for a long crossfield ball, as they found quite regularly. The swirling wind also played havoc when Szcz cleared long too.

Winterburn also thought the ref handled the game pretty well, apart from the Arteta tackle. I did warn that he would allow are fair/unfair bit of tackling, which is why no cards were issued in the first half. Now either Dean is clever enough to know that if he has to give a second yellow it was more likely to be the red one issued against Chelsea? Or, as he will argue, he allowed for conditions, and tried to keep 22 players on the pitch? For me, there was not enough on the ordinary fouls to say he was biased. The possible pen, and not going back to book Obi Mikel were the two that were big ones, and very much against us. Too clever to be crooked? Perhaps.Or perhaps too clever to be caught out?

We are not a lot better off today. And again, Nolan there to do the dirty work in midfield? You can bet your life the pitch will be sloppy after the rain that goes through today. If it is a groin strain with Flamini, a heavy pitch will not be in his favour. Keep an eye on that, both here and at Newcastle, as they have had there fair share of the wet stuff, with more to come?

  328. TotalArsenal says:

Thanks Fozzer, you can read the frustration between the lines there. He is trying to shift the blame to Wenger but nobody is fooled. Maureen, just like your buzzing holiday friend, is a parasite.

  329. TotalArsenal says:

    Morning Gerry 🙂

  330. TotalArsenal says:

Why is it great to live in England reason nr.7: because there is PL footie on Boxing Day. 🙂

  331. Gerry says:

Morning TA interesting TW chatter … Jackson Martinez? Surely more distraction ,,,, meanwhile???

The funniest one was Chelsea after Napoli’s recent purchase … has anybody told the Sun that players cannot move twice in a season? Hence the redirection above, for them to go chasing in Portugal? They need a striker now, not in the summer.

If I were placing a bet, i would think us scoring first might be considered? WHU have only scored first 3 times this season?

That is not me making a prediction that we win, just in case Fate is reading this ???

  332. Gerry says:

TA – And the bad reason is there is no winter break? ha ha

  333. TotalArsenal says:

Hahaha – Fate might well be reading this, Gerry 🙂

I am writing a quick pre-match right now, back in a bit. 🙂

  334. TotalArsenal says:

Gerry – to some extent yes. However, football is entertainment and a lot of people rely on it to get them through the dark winter months. In that respect, the rest of Europe are committing a serious crime against humanity every year around this time…. 😉

  335. TotalArsenal says:

    New Post, New Post 🙂

An invitation to share your views for the West Ham game (the idea is from 17HT). 🙂
