RFB/CB in the Bag and Edu isn’t Finished Yet

Oh it’s crazy crunch time in the football transfer window. 10 hours to go and the Guardian just confirmed that Arsenal have signed a new RB/RFB subject to a successful medical. Takehiro Tomiyasu is to join us from Bologna:

He is 188cm tall, fast and ball tight from what I saw on YouTube. His Bologna defence stats are mostly in the top three and he was twice MoTM last season.

I have not seen him play but it all sounds promising.

This must mean that Bellerin is indeed on his way out. Hector always gave his all and he added personality to the team, but a departure now seems right for both parties.

It would not surprise me if there are more comings and goings. We need a clean slate as much as possible and all those who stay to be fully committed to the cause.

Will Ainsley be allowed to leave (on loan)?

Will Eddie leave for Crystal Palace?

Will Kola leave (on loan)?

Will we sign another attacking midfielder – Aouar or Bisouma maybe?

Will Auba slip out at the last minute?

What are your predictions fine fellow Gooners?

  • With those dozy gits in charge you forget any hope of landing Bissouma or Aouar or both( miracle).Hopless.absolutely hopeless.

  • I love the sound of the new rb.
I’d be shocked to see even more come in today.

I don’t want to see Auba go, no way. I don’t get the people saying we need a cf, in the window, with our midfield options as they are. Afcon coming up, and Xhaka will be on his third three game ban by January lol.

But really, we have at CF.. a healthy Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang FFS. What do people expect!? Haaland and Mbappe? If our strikers value has depreciated, we need to look at the manager. Laca is in his late prime and Auba is healthy and has not lost any skills physically.

Just a simple question… How many teams have two better pure strikers? Even Uniteds are age concerns though legends.

If they both stay, as I hope, we need to get more out of ours.

The positive point is.. We now have an incredible creator in the middle, so maybe we’ve gone a long way to solving the problem.

  • Lol J, passionate support for our attackers. I would love a CF who is strong in the air and very physical and fast. But I am also a fan of Laca and a focused Auba

  • Looking at the clips on YouTube, I hope we will be saying “Konnichi wa” to Takehiro Tomiyasu. He can play as RB and LB and would probably play well in midfield too.

  • Sad to hear that Jack Wilshere’s move to Serie B is likely to be blocked because of Brexit (he has a non-EU passport).

  • Takehiro Tomiyasu is a really interesting one. He could possibly cover at left centre back or left full back as well. He is 67% right footed which means he uses his left foot as much as Santi Cazorla. For comparison, White and Chambers are 90+% right footed. Let’s hope he adapts well to the premier league.

  • I wish Arsenal gets some noisy fans who can unsettle opposition players through the game. Something Guindozzi mentioned at OM something like germany team fans and get rid of those who seat quite on games like they watch opera or continue to make noise after conceding also.

  • Really pleased with signing Takehiro Tomiyasu, looks fast and strong and apparently he has never been sent off in his professional career.
Any news on M-Niles, really don’t understand why he’s move has been blocked. Last year he’s move to Wolves was blocked, he then was not used and then loaned in January, this man management just causes dressing room discontentment.
What about Kolasinac, What’s the point of keeping him?

  • TA, is it deja vu? Didn’t Arteta have the same conversation with AMN last year at this time? Let’s see if anything changes for him this season. If he’s now 4th choice at rb, and will play so sporadically in MF that he can never get effective there, what’s the use in keeping him.

Seems like even with Hector out, we have too many right backs. Even Taveres can fill in there. I think Chambers should be cut loose.. loan or sale, or if there’s any market for Cedric. But since we left things for the last day, that may have to wait till January. Another glut like last years cb’s.

Negative people will say Hector wanted out because he disliked Arteta. More likely Arteta saw that he was not producing as well as he might, and made the tough call to start Callum and Soares instead… I applauded that….Bellerin is a steady defender, decent in possession, nothing going forward, not even enough when we had a more dynamic attack under Emery, even Arsene didn’t get enough from him. Scouts could see it, that’s why no bigger clubs even wanted a loan.

Best hope for Hector is second choice RB at a more successful club, where if he gets opportunity due to injury or something, he can be inspired to regain some form. If not, there’s always fashion design or Greenpeace.

  • Well J, AMN was apparently reassured by Arteta. And it is January before you know…

I can see him play in all the League Cup matches, get a few starts in the PL and regular 20/30 minutes sub appearances. Ainsly should compeat with Lokonga…. And Partey will unfortunately be injured regularly, so…

  • From the vids, Tomiyasu looks nice and physical, a good sign. For players coming from other leagues, it’s always a big worry in adjusting to the physicality…Imagine he and Ben White can be interchangeable. If we needed to chase a game.

  • Bellerin joins Real Betis
La Liga side have been teasing us for the last half an hour – including a Stone Cold Steve Austin gif – but it now appears they have signed full-back Hector Bellerin on loan from Arsenal.

    From BBC

  • Tomiyasu set for Arsenal move

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Been told that Arsenal’s move for Bologna’s Japanese international defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will get done before the deadline at 23:00 BST.

  • I think they do it on purpose, drag it out so that we don’t complain that they could have done more!

Imagine if they’d completed the deal at midday, that would have left most of the day for us to say what about brining in Bissouma as well or Bruno?

  • If and when Tomiyasu signs that’ll mean Arsenal have a foreign contingent of 15 and an English contingent of 6, a total squad of 21.

Saka, Smith, Flo, Tavares and Martinelli are all U21’s.

  • 16 players out on loan (so far) of which Mavropanos, Guendouzi, Iliev, Osei Tutu, Torrieira and possibly Bellerin are unlikely to return.

  • Well good news and I am looking forward to seeing TT in action.

A left field choice for sure, but he is young and can grow with the rest of the team.

  • Well, TT has a promising WhoScored profile with 5 strength and a single weakness (albeit the latter is crossing).
I have never heard of him before, but let’s hope it says more about me than about him.
I’m not sure he is equal to Emerson Royal who joined our North-London rivals, although he was 6M cheaper than the Brazilian.

We didn’t sign anybody for DM/CM which I think was a mistake, but I don’t have illusions that Camavinga who was sold to Real Madrid for less than 28M would have joined us for the same dough. Apart from the missed midfield signings (no Aouar, Berge, Bissouma or Neves; Koopmeiners joined Atalanta for 11M which will prove to be the signing of the transfer window) I’m satisfied with the incoming players – except from White’s price and salary.
Where I’m more critical with the management is the players leaving, or not leaving to be more precise. We have 3-3 full backs which is just crazy, but not in a good sense. It is plain dumb. If we could have sold Kolasinac, Soares and Elneny, and would have sent AMN and Nketiah on loan we could have continued the season with a proper squad. But with 6 full backs, 4 strikers and central midfielder the squad is still to big. Which does not only disappoint me, but apparently Ainsley Maitland-Niles too, along with those fans that are sympathizing with him. The same should happen with Eddie and Balogun as neither of them will get to 500 minutes in the first half of the campaign.

  • All those Rbs and Lbs is crazy. If we were bringing another rb in, we should’ve offloaded a couple somehow. Nobody will be happy with their minutes especially with no Europe.

Maybe Ainsley will have to get some opportunities in MF now with Xhaka – Partey situation. I’d lean towards playing him more as the dm with his defensive qualities proven at fb, but that’s just in theory because it’s such a different position to read and react. Maybe Chambers gets a rollout there?

I’d love to see Niles do well in midfield. We needed midfielders much more than we needed a cb and a defensive rb.

  • Eris, Kev, NJK I missing your predictions for this weekend.

Rocky07 – it’s not to late for you to join in the prediction game.
