The boys are in Prague, a beautiful city at any time of the year and certainly so in Autumn. Of course it is just a flying visit to the City of 100 Towers for the Gunners between two important PL away games in Burnley and Sunderland, but hopefully the boys get a few minutes to take in the sheer romantic beauty of a city that has housed greats like Jan Hus, Milan Kundera, Havel, Franz Kafka and of course our most beloved Czech who donned the red and white, Tomáš Rosický.

Tomáš embodied something at Arsenal that every football supporters loves: that desire to play the game beautifully and effectively at the highest possible level. Other teams might have dominated in the PL over the past twenty years, but no other team has had as many nr10-magicians as Arsenal had during that period, and Tomáš Rosický was certainly one of them.

Talking about magicians, we are still missing our current day one, Martin Odegaard. Eze is doing just fine of course, and what a great signing he is proving to be, but when it comes to finding the chinks in the defensive, lower blocks Martin remains our main man. In fact, we are missing an entire attacking lineup today of Jesus, Havertz, Madueke and Odegaard. All injured, and now Viktor (and Martinelli?) is/are also out. It is getting a little bit thin up-front. The risk of all these long injuries in the same area of the pitch is that we never really recover from it as players get overused, Gyo being being the prime example.

Luckily there is an international break soon, and hopefully a few will be available again after it. But Arsenal will have to grind out a couple of results before then, and Slavia Prague will no doubt give us a game. They drew twice to have two points out of 3 games, and other than that I don’t know anything about them.

I think we can predict our defence and midfield pretty accurately, and our attack is pretty straightforward too. The only real question is: who will play as CF? Will it be Leandro, Merino or a youngster – and if the latter, who will it be? I’ll go for Merino.

Well, all will be revealed in a few hours time. Remember it is an early kick-off for us tonight.

  • Big Guns drawn … I thought the “back-7” would look more like the one picked to start against BHA – how wrong I was.
    Myles has gone down in the pecking order on the left flank of our defence, obviously. I wouldn’t mind much, provided he’s given playing time in midfield. I’ve always thought there was an Edgar Davids in him – not a Maldini -, and still do.
    The U19s’ performance earlier today was abject, disgraceful … again. 5-1 to the Big Boys tonight would take (just) a little salt off the wound; COYG.

  • That’s a stronger line up than we expected, but it is understandable.
    We have a couple of tough and tricky fixtures to come and these are the opposition we should look to rack up the points we would need for those automatic qualifications slots.

    Again, if you are Raya, Gabriel, Timber and Saliba, you would want to guard the clean sheet record we have and are gunning for.
    Hopefully, we still get to see MLS, Eze, Dowman and Mosquera at some point.

  • I saw that handball in real time and was surprised I didn’t see us protest.

    We did have to weather a home side storm earlier on, so it’s good to see us take control now. Imagine we didn’t have our regular CBs during that period. 🤔

  • Indeed, wonderful technique needed to get the ball to just skim over the grass like that … Perfection was wanted, their GK was right on the money.

  • Proper vintage, old-fashioned, no holds barred away Cup game. Love it.
    Not even sure a second would get them to bow down … Tough they are, tough they’ll remain to bitter end. Respect!

  • Yes it is a typical CL game, DdN.

    A very physical side to deal with.

    Feel the players aren’t clicking much, but it’s enough to be ahead.

  • 3-0 and the changes are made. Dowman, MLS, White and Eze (earlier) on for Trossard, Hincapie, Timber and Ethan, respectively.
    I am sure we can trust this clean sheet run to White and Myles Lewis-Skelly., with Gab and Saliba in support.

  • Our clean sheet record stays….for now, after that penalty call scare. Never a penalty, as the VAR review bears out.

    Remains 3-0, with Harriman-Annous on for Rice. Professional performance by Declan Rice, avoiding a caution which may have seen him miss the next game vs Bayern Munich.

    10 wins on the bounce; 8 clean sheets; makeshift striker scoring 2 goals; youngest player ever to play in the UCL; minimal shots conceded…. so many records and things to like about the team today. 👏🏾👏🏾. Slow and steady boys. Slow and steady…. 👊🏾

  • A very professional performance from the team last night, is Mikel M not the gift which keeps giving? Everytime he scores I expect to hear a corresponding Ennio Morricone score. Bring on a Diazless Bayern for what will be a titanic encounter.

  • Gabby Jesus is said to be back in training. I reckon it will be some time in December till he is match ready, unless he’s been doing more training than he has given away.

    Good thing, he doesn’t have to be rushed back since we have Havertz too to return and Meri-Gol as back ups to Gyokeres.
