Arsenal v Man City: Strong Lineup – Let the Canon Roar and Roar!

So here we go Gooners. A big game that could decide who will become the hunter or the hunted. A win for us would be a big statement and a boost to our confidence, no doubt, but I don’t think it will be a ‘title decider’.

The lineup is strong, very strong, and the bench is bursting with talent and game changers/stabilisers.

I am hoping the boys will be relaxed enough to play their game and believe in themselves. Anyway, enough said: let the ball do the talking.

Come On You Rip Roaring Gunners! 💥💥💥

  • Arsenal very, very composed at the back, and a bit too nervous upfront. We need more from you, Jesus. Breath in and out my friend.

All to play for in the second half. The Tross may make the difference late on.

Come On You Rip Roaring Gunners.

  • It wwas a strong line up, both ways, for sure. Looks like we played a containment game which may be the smart move, seeing the psychological edge the hosts have had over us for years.

Not ssure what to make of the approach but, needs must, I guess. We restricted City to barely 2 shots on target, where we had 3 (will confirm that after this, but that’s what I recall). Liverpool may be the winner for today but there are still games to go. Let’s believe!

  • This tthing with WordPress,… now, the first letter of the second word of every paragraph is duplicated.

  • congratulations to the Arsenal Ladies on a pivotal day for the men. Won the FA Women’s league cup, beating Chelsea 1-0, goal scored after extra time. They will be happy ro have gotten a trophy this season, with City and Chelsea dominating the WSL.

  • Two fine results.

Very impressed with our discipline. Home wins and away draws v City and Pool are proof pudding of our progress. A fit squad for the run in, two exciting ties v Bayern, GN5 on the mend… much to look forward to.

And much to be thankful for. A blessed Easter, Ista gọziri agọzi , Pâques bénie, gezegend pasen, áldott húsvétot to my mates on BK.

  • A draw is such a step forward for the boys. So happy with the boys’ performance. Now it’s about the next game. Every game three points.

  • Fascinating game, I was totally gripped by the contest.

Both teams trying to manoeuvre their opponent around the pitch in order to find that vital piece of space in order to create an opportunity and Arsenal actually came the closest.

Jesus showed plenty of grit and determination but I feel that this team has moved away from him because he’s not and never will be ruthless enough when those rare opportunities arise.

The big chance was missed by Trossard who delayed his crossfield pass to Martinelli who surely would have scored. You don’t get any time to take a second touch in these games you have to act immediately or the chance is gone, as was the case yesterday.

    This Arsenal team is amazing…

  • That, too, Stu:

One of the very best sport documentaries I’ve ever seen. Puts everything into context, as it should always be done. May be regarded as a love letter to the people who make up the actual fabric of popular London, too.

Although a little too “subdued”, the soundtrack is great as well, but you can’t help thinking “The Angel” would have been a wonderful cherry on this cake.

  • The short film of Ian Wright meeting his old teacher Mr Pigden does me in every time. Wrighty is like a little boy when he’s embracing his old teacher, it’s very emotional.

  • The infinite kindness in the eyes of the old man made me look up for more information about him.

I won’t say I wasn’t surprised to find out he’d been a war hero, but what he did for Wrighty confirmed something I had always thought – and keep thinking: obviously teachers don’t need to have risked their lives for their country to be better at what they do, but it’d help a lot of them to have spent a few years in “real” life before teaching, instead of going in a straight line, from school benches to lecture halls to staff room …

And yes, Kev, these two minutes or so always move me to tears too …

  • Interesting point of view Legall. Can’t see the link myself, but it’s yours to have.

You will be happy with the lineup, and so will The Hungarian Hunk. Come Reiss and Emile, this is your chance. 🙂

  • Teachers and Politicians both LeG, experiencing life in the real world is an education.

I was fortunate enough to be taught at school by teachers who had been through the War, it gave them a gravitas and perspective that the ‘right-on’ teachers straight out of college, those that wanted to be your friend, could never replicate.

  • Yes Total, an enormous opportunity for Emile, I hope he takes it with both hands – and his feet of course.

  • Choices vindicated. Shouldn’t we all be happy? I didn’t expect Emile to be that good, straight away, tbh. They’re a good, coherent side, Luton, so 2-0 at HT, without any of our two English internationals shouldn’t be looked down on. And putting all hands back on deck as MA did tonight will be a huge boost for what lies ahead of us (and yes, TA, a big kudos to him for it).

And Timber might be back soon:

  • Woman teachers were great in Primary School, a home from home, a bit like your Mum, but in my all-boys Secondary school they had no authority and no chance.

  • All we need to do is stay in touch and close enough to pounce when Liverpool do flounder, as they are bound to, with the pressure. If they can go on to win all remaining 9 games, perhaps they deserve it then. Squeaky bum time, guys.

  • 🎶Tsamina mina, eh, eh,
    Waka waka, eh, eh,
    £60 million down the drain,
    Kai Havertz scores again! 🎶

  • The llads look like they have exorcised the ghost of the business end of last season and have, rather, learnt from it. There is nothing to criticise about that performance and we would be very unlucky not to win it this season.

  • Jorgie the winger, with the perfect cutback ‘n all … made me laugh my head off. What a player he is!

    Bavaria, Bavaria
The whole day through (the whole day through)
    Just an old sweet song
Keeps Bavaria on my mind (Bavaria on my mind)

    … now

    Watched them again today.

Look, mates, after last week’s capitulation against Borussia, they’ve been so poor again that I don’t know what to make of it, actually …

Kimmich was taken off midfield again, which looks insane to me. Pavlovic, Sané, Coman, Mazraoui weren’t even on the bench. De Ligt was, even though he was one of the very few who could hold his head high last week-end. As for Neuer, rumour has it he’s not that seriously injured …

So much so that they might be a different beast altogether come tuesday, something like:

    Neuer

    Mazraoui-De Ligt-Upamecano-Davies

    Kimmich-Goretzka

    Coman/Sané-Musiala-Gnabry/Coman

    Kane

Truth is, I can’t believe Tuchel will stick to the kind of lineups he’s picked lately, it’d be too good to be true

  • Legall, it could be Tuchel has been holding back in the Bundesliga as to focus on the CL which is the only price left to win for them. But I am hoping you are right and that they are weak and very beatable.

The way the boys played today makes me also hopeful for Tuesday.

  • Ray Charles all the way to church this morning.

Started to get a bit antsy when we missed those first four very presentable chances at the start of the match, but these boys of ours are so focussed, so disciplined, so intense, so committed, that doubt found no soil to take root.

Must admit I was calling for Eddie to come on for Kai as soon as we were two up. A yellow card for our Kaiser Kai would have been costly. He was immense, his midweek words about his connection with Jorgi, all too prophetic.

Tross was terrific, his finish reminiscent of Sanchez’s dummy and dink . Love Leandro, missed his binoculars for his boy celebration, tho’.

Second hymn of the morning: O I do love to be beside the seaside…

  • We are top of the league, I said, we are top of the league…

  • Who would have thought it, eh? Top of the league, baby! Now, we just need to take it a game at a time and keep that goals difference. The boys have given themselves a chance.

  • Good morning, boys. Trust you have your sleeves rolled up for this one.

  • Lost our composure a bit and then unlucky enough to concede twice from those situations. I guess the early, wonderful goal gave us wings and then the heads are light.

All to play for really, and whatever happens I am proud of these boys.

  • Two costly nervous moments. But what a finish from our star boy.

  • Death, taxes and a Harry Kane penalty. That’s made my Weetabix go all soggy.

Here comes a redemptive second half…

  • Waaahhhhttt!!? BEIN Sports didn’t offer any replays of that last action. Tell me boys, why wasn’t that a penalty?

  • It looked like Bukayo initiated the contact. Not sure whether he wanted that, as he would have had a very good shot on goal with his left foot.

  • Proud of the boys. Stats are in our favour, and we played the better football. Die Lederhosen will have to come out in Munchen and then we can play on the counter. Getting the equaliser was key.

  • Not the result we envisaged but still in it. As for the penalty that wasn’t given, how many times have we seen them given in the EPL when the likes of Rashford, Kane and Wilfred Zaha initiate contact. Fact is keeper Nuer stuck out his leg in Saka’s path and made strong contact to bring him down. Painful thing was Ref wasn’t even prepared to give VAR a chance and blew the final whistle. Poor. With a ref like that, Bayern didn’t even need their fans at the Arsenal stadium.

Another curious incident of note was how we escaped a handball penalty incident when Gabriel inexplicably handled a goal kick pass from keeper Raya, during a restart. Ref blew the whistle, Raya placed the ball and gave his usual pass out to Gabriel who elected to pick up the ball with his hands to restart the pass back to Raya. Lucky! Tuchel made a fuss about it after the match, claiming the Ref said he wasn’t going to punish a kids’ error, suggesting he saw it but ignored it. My take, he didn’t see it as he was backing the incident, leaving Raya confused as he hesitated. Gabriel must be warned to focus.

  • We are approaching that time of the year when Agents begin leaking rumours regarding the availability of their clients to the whole wide world and it’s dog (social media).

And so it’s not really a shock to read of the availability of Charlie Patino, not least the fact that through his father he has a Spanish passport thus enabling Spanish clubs to enquire, safe in the knowledge that a mountain of EU bureaucracy won’t complicate any prospective transfer.

For me it’s a shame but I feel that Charlie has been usurped by the emergence of Nwaneri and MLS, that on top of a decent if uninspiring loan period to Swansea (whatever happened to Sagoe Junior?).

According to Transfermarket Patino is valued at £10m…

  • Whilst on the subject of transfers and TM this summer is probably the last chance Arsenal have of generating a decent fee for Kieran Tierney with his contract expiring in 2026.

TM has Kieran valued at £12m which is quite a hit given that we paid £25m for him but his injuries and inflated salary will affect any value we can extract. I’m not sure if as I write if he is fit or not at Sociedad but the vibes coming out from the Spanish club is that they simply can’t afford him, although if Arsenal go for Zubimendi maybe some kind of part-ex can be arranged even if I’m not confident

  • No sweat, Broseph. Prayin’ for you, mate.

Kev, like you, I think we are in for a summer of squad transformation. Not too major, but a droolingly interesting next step in the Arteta/Edu/Kroenke project.

Good to see Villa will line up without Douglas Luiz.

  • Stu, yes mate, incremental raising of standards across the club at all levels.
