Santi and Rambo deliver, Chambers rocks, Jack dominates: Afterthoughts.

Five quick conclusions from smashing the Northern Oilers.

it was a very good win in which Arsene got the tactics right. I did not think we would have much of a chance with Arteta and the recently lethargic looking Cazorla in the team, but I was very wrong. The five in midfield dominated the MC midfielders with their energy, crisp passing and creativity, and if and when this is the case, Arsenal just look awesome. Some will say, the northern oilers did not turn up for this game, but I rather believe we never allowed them into this game, especially after we scored a very fine counter attacking goal by the obvious man of the match, AR. One half of energetic, attacking football was enough, and we should be hoping for many more of these very incisive first half displays this season.

Five afterthoughts:

1. Santi and Ramsey show their maturity

Despite our dominance in the first part of the first half, we did not look like scoring; that was until Santi took his chance with composure and precision. The same goes for Ramsey’s all important second goal of the match that effectively killed off the game. We often lacked this in previous seasons and to see both take their chances in front of a large crowd is a very positive sign.

2. Sanogo is a good stand in for OG

I wrote recently about OG’s importance to the structure of our team and enabling role towards our midfielders. Sanogo fulfilled the OG role very well yesterday. As an attacking force we were unpredictable and Sanogo worked tirelessly to create space for others, to hold up the ball as to allow the midfielders to join the attack, AND to provide a constant attacking threat himself in the process. I love this guy.

3. Jack pulled the strings and had YAYA in his pocket

We will continue to have a debate about Jack’s ability and importance to the team for a long time. I am really tempted to say: you either see it or you don’t. He gave structure to our attack and played a big part in us owing the midfield. On the day, he outshone Yaya all the way. JW10 a regular starter this season if fit? You Betcha!

4. Wojciech still has not learned

I am a fan of Szczesny but also very happy Ospina will be a real competitor for him. What the Pole misses is maturity, and especially, judgements skills. We were winning handsomely, and yet, if you look back at his decisions in the last twenty minutes, you just shake your had. It sometimes looks like he gets bored when he has nothing to do, so he decides to join the fun because of it. Two kamikaze clearances in which he could have easily injured himself spring to mind. His decision making from set pieces was also below par in that period. Time to be more mature now,Wojciech!

5. Chambers is an awesome signing

He was born in 1995, and yet, he plays with such maturity. There is plenty to learn for Chambers, as you would expect, but boy this boy can defend. He has a great nose for danger and where THE BALL will be in the next two seconds, he is strong as an Ox, and his decision making AND execution skills are extremely good: what more do you want from a defender?! I love this guy and cannot wait to see him tested in midfield: what a multi-functional weapon!

  • Good points from yesterday’s game. The Community Shield is one of those damned if you win, damned if you don’t games. I’m just happy we beat the team we faced & quite convincingly. That’s all one can ask for.

I have some time so I’ll address your points ‘coz they all lead to something later.

1> Yaya Sanogo : Man, this Bambi has improved or what? Admittedly against lesser defenders, he was a handful. Twisting, turning, running into space, creating outlets. He did everything that could be asked of him. Plus Sanogo has a decent enough to pace to run in behind. Btw, credit where it’s due. Giroud was very good & produced the exact finish that we all want from a striker. Well done!

2> Calum Chambers : Seriously impressed by this kid’s maturity. Looks like he’s been playing for us for years now. Immense potential & versatility. But I really hope that we do sign another proper CB so we have adequate quality cover over the back line.

    Finally, Santi/Jack/Rambo :

When all three along with Ozil are fit, it won’t be possible to start them all without affecting the overall balance of the side aka defensively screwed. One or two of those may not start conventionally. Huge but good headaches for Wenger. Unless…….

This is what I really think will happen if Jack has to fulfill his potential. We have to revert to a 4-3-3. A very fluid system which becomes a 4-1-4-1 during attack & becomes a 4-3-3 in defense. Very very much like what Ancelotti did at Madrid last season with Di Maria being the engine. I think we might replicate this if AW sees Jack & Rambo in the same team.

Comparisons – Alonso – Arteta (Or even Sami will work here) : Modric – Jack : Di Maria – Rambo (Creativity + Stamina) . We don’t need a MF destroyer in his system. It’s all about transition speed from defending to counterattack. Moving forward, we can have Ozil/Santi (relieved of defending wings). Sanchez will be a nightmare in this system ‘coz his positioning is lethal. Plus add Theo/Ox’s speed. We could always switch to using OG/Yaya against diff teams based on how they play. But ideally, 4-3-3 is a freakin wet dream!

    Hope that made sense.

  • Listen Gullible Gluteus Lickers !…………..don’t read too much into that result, it means nothing if we don’t beat Palace on Saturday !. Yes, we have a fine squad on paper, but don’t have selective short memories….we are the Manshafter Std of the Injury League, we spend more money on hospital equipment than all the other teams put together !…..Gazidis is currently negotiating a sponsorship deal with the NHS !….no not my one….Necrophilia Horny Sluts !….the Health one !.

Wilshere did OK, Totes, but as VCC will agree with me, he runs down Cul-de sacs and doesn`t release the ball quick enough and this is proved by the amount of time he spends sucking off earth worms on the floor !. The only strings he pulls are the ones attached to his Lady Penelope puppet whilst he makes her blow him whilst groaning ….” Yes me Lady !”.

Sonago couldn`t hit a barn door with Gervinho`s head…..the 4 he scored against Benfica were nothing special, he probably mis-hit them all !.
Nothing to add about Santi and Ramsey, they are class !.
Szczesny !…..not bothered, all goalies make mistakes and by nature they are all fcuking mad !.
Lets concentrate on what Wenger is not doing right this TW and that’s failing again to make a statement of intent when being in a great financial position to blow most out of the H20 whilst they ( Mansour City and Chavs ) are being observed by the FFP powers that be !.
Alas though, beating City will make him (Wenger) think he has got it all worked out and only failing to beat Palace and struggling in the CL qualifier will make him think otherwise !
Spend some fcuking money Arsene, up to Ā£200m to spend and now we`ve sold Verm, Djourou and Eisfeld, the amount spent so far is at most Ā£50M !. You know I love a big SQ transfer, that’s because I have a great Sense of Rumour !.

Great to be back Dooming !. hahaha

  • Oh and Chambers !, this looks a good buy and is the reason we wont buy another CB and also that Wenger is playing Monreal as CB as well, so don’t anyone get excited about rumours of Hummels coming as he or Mert/Koz wont be wanting to be bench boys !. Chambers will be partnering Koz on Saturday as Mert has just returned to training today, so by your (Totes) own admission, we will be playing our 4th choice CB !…….I think he is 3rd choice !.

  • Hah Cockie, I figured you would be in the ‘see it’ camp, but I guess you just wanna be close to Vickers šŸ˜‰

All disagreed. just a good, experienced CB and or DM and we are sorted.

  • Let’s not forget a cult hero in the form of Vermalean, who shunned United to join Barca despite a much more attractive wage offer from United. Verminator as he was fondly called has shown the true Arsenal spirit that is expected of every gunner. His professionalism last season coupled with his decision to shun Old Trafford and move to Nou Camp should earn him a place in the heart of every true gunner. He was a true gunner, and I guess will always be in our hearts. Much respect.

  • Well that game showed me absolutely nothing, the mancs looked like most of my girlfriends/victims – heavily sedated, incoherent and easily controllable.
As I said before it was to be expected as it is preseason and the main plus points are the fact the press can’t bitch about us loosing etc and with so many youngsters and new arrivals to the squad at least it keeps confidence and moral high.

Just a quick note on Jack, he falls over all the time from things called tackles and ends up ā€œrunning into cul-de-sacsā€ because he is always looking to go forward, he reminds me of Rosicky in that way. He’s a great player in my opinion and would always be in my starting XI, in the central AM position.

I really hope a couple of good preseason results don’t hide the fact that all Wenger has done so far in the transfer market is buy yet another attacking midfielder, a replacement for a player who was leaving and one centre back pmsl – I still want another three defenders and two out and out solid DM’s.
Well the transfer window isn’t over yet I suppose and the game was great to watch even if it did not mean much so can’t complain too much lol.

    Tester,
I’ve got a formation that may give even more fluidity to the team, the only teams I have seen use it in the past were Ajax under Van Gaal, Chile and of course Barcelona; the 3-4-3 (diamond).
    Take a look ;
    ://sharemytactics.com/18864/
(Add http to the front of the link – I didn’t want to accidentally post a giant picture or something crazy like I did last time lol)

Add a link to your 4-3-3 if you can be arsed

  • Steve : I forsee a single DM or B2B Midfielder who is smart enough to play DM. And yes, Wenger himself said TV5 will be replaced irrespective of Chambers. Don’t read too much into AW though. His cards aren’t revealed easily.

As for 3-4-3. You do realize that this is what we essentially ended up being against LFC & CFC away? Both full backs bombing on stupidly, then a midfielder loses possession & they counter leaving Arteta looking out of depth. So I doubt this will happen.

    Here’s a link for 4-3-3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXWq34XByjc

  • It will be 4-5-1 again, I reckon. OG or Sano4goals in the ‘1’ and an army of midfield ants working frantically around them. I also expect either Arteta or Flamini (or ideally new DM) to fall back a lot allowing one of the FBs to bomb forwards.

  • Tester,
The two full backs bombing on can only happen in a 4 at the back, in theory it is to provide extra width and should leave two centre back’s and a holding midfielder for defensive duties (3 at the back in attack mode). With a 3 at the back the 3 centre backs never go forward and with the holding midfield player this will always leave 4 at the back even in attack mode. It is a much more defensive formation than people think, especially when considering in our current system our DM is usually far too high up the pitch and we end up with a counter on basically just two defenders most of the time.

Good vid though, it certainly helped an average looking liverpool team do very well last season.
How the hell did you put that youtube link in without it showing up as a massive video box?

  • The way I see it, stevie baby, is that it`s all down to JW`s running style !….for a little geezer, he has a weird long stride, if he could have adopted a quick feet style (ala Messi, you never see him on the floor or down a cul-de-sac as he goes past them with skill !) with close control, he might actually go past players and not end up on the floor of a cul-de-sac !. I think he would be more suited to Barca and expect him to be sold to them by mid-night tonight for Ā£40+M !. He will stay a few years and we will not execute our buy back clause and he will sign for The Spuds, but we will make a fortune and you will end up in a loony bin bed next to Total and embracing each other over the loss of Cesc and Jack !. In the mean time, Arsene will have left Arsenal on medical grounds for rabies of the cock after shagging Stevie Boulds Pit Bull and I will be Manager and spend all the fcuking money !. hahaha

  • Nicked this off 69ers site !……….look out for the wanker shirt !. šŸ˜€

  • Steve, hope you were joking re your treatment of women?! šŸ˜•

Re the game it is simple. A good win before the start of the season is what every team wants, and this was a good win. Would we have lost by three the shit would be hitting the fan properly now. So good result abd great practice. Bring on CP!

  • cookie,
A friend in the loony bin with me at last – don’t you make me dream such hopeful dreams! šŸ™‚
Don’t worry Total, you to will be heavily sedated, incoherent and easily controllable pmsl

  • A win is a win and has to be good for morale. Imagine the city supporters were pretty pxxxxd off having travelled all that way to see a team that weren’t interested, Toure looked like he was away with the fairies.

Debuchy looks like. He wil need time to settle, but he did at least put a couple of decent crossed in.

How Giroud got man of the match is beyond me. Rambo and Chambers for me

  • Hahaha Totes !………..from steves first sentence he sounded like one of the nurses I took under my wing at The Gullible Womans, Dyslexic and Deluded Bastards Unit !. hahaha
Now here`s the thing my Dutch Tart…..a shit hitting the fan 3 nil defeat may have got Darth Wenger to spend some of the Ā£200M !…….better than it being a shit hitting the fan no result against Palace !………Dennis !, why am I so good at this wisdom stuff !. hahaha

  • Hello, BK-ers! šŸ™‚ Happy first trophy in the new season! It’s now two trophies in a row for The Mighty Arsenal – Oilers had won the league six days before we won the cup. So, we’ll win Capital One Cup to complete a hat-trick! šŸ˜€

An excellent review, TA. šŸ™‚ I’m glad I’m not the only one to point out at Chambers’ unrealistic composure for someone who is only 19.

Regarding new signings, I’d be happy with a back-up central defender. Of course, I would be happy if we get an enforcer in the middle but I think our team has enough pace to outsmart the bullies and get away with the silverware in May.

Cockers, I have a special present for you if you click on my name. Don’t worry, you won’t be sedated! šŸ˜€

  • Thanks Admir for mentioning my 3 P`s ( Pace Pace and more Pace ). You really should write more posts on here as your talent deserves a bigger audience !.

Totes, he was 72, the oldest of 5 brothers . He hid that he had a tumour on his lungs from his family, so not to worry them and I was told a week earlier that he had cancer and then hit with it that he had passed away !.
I looked up to him as my wit guru. I can never remember having a serious conversation with him as he ad-libbed off the cuff all the time !. I worked with him for a couple of years in my first job in Tailoring and we bounced off each other all the time with all kind of humour !. If he read some of the stuff I put on here and in the past on AA, I`m sure he would have approved of his Padawan !. hahaha

  • Thanks Cockie. That must have been a big shock to you and your other brothers. My dad will be 72 in two months so I know it is far too young an age to go. Hope you were able to give him a great farewell.

    How’s the missus now?

  • Brilliant post TA, I really cant disagree with any thing you have wrote

Santi and Ramsey are simply world class players. Last night I was having a very vivid sexual dream in which carol vodeerman, dressed as a dominatrix, submited to my darkest desires, when of all a sudden it hit me. Santi picks the ball up inside left, Aarron makes one of his trademarks runs, and bang we beat Madrid 1-0 in the European cup final.

TA, Ramsey reminds me of Neeskens.

Sanago is an excellent option. Tall and gangly, like a giraffe with a hangover, but good movement and deceptivly quick

Jack Wilshere and Ramsey are the perfect two in front of the defensive pivot. they will grow stronger and take the club forward.

Chesney could be a great. He has everything you want in a keeper, but sometimes his arse rules his head. Imagine him at a sophisticated party. Patrons discussing Tracy Emins latest piece or how amazing that Roman fortifications in southern France are so intact, when of all a sudden Chesney loses it, pins down the host and takes a selfie of the hosts face melded into his arse.

I knew about Chambers last season and told a few people that he is the one Arsene should get. I saw a midfilder in him, but now also see a centre back. The lad looks a great talent.

  • Cheers Terrenzo šŸ™‚

Ramsey is Neeskens hahahaha – you always come out with something unique…. And you coud be on to something!

  • Sadly Totes, I couldn`t make the funeral and feel guilty, but my only thoughts at the time were whether the love of my life was going to make it and no I`m not talking about the repairs to my bedroom ceiling mirror !.
Sadly my and the second oldest brother passed away some 15 years ago, he was my guru on everything dodgy and was a well known receiver of stolen goods in the East End of London and although sad, it was quite fitting and dare I say amusing that he died falling off the back of a lorry (true)!. So there`s 3 of us left and I`m the youngest !….from my other two brothers, I take the 3rd oldest one as my guru for hard work and the 4th oldest as my guru for being generous !….added to me being fcuking mad !. hahaha

  • It was a very, very tough period for you, Cockie, and you were right to prioritise the wife’s care of course. But that must have very hard for you. Hope things will become a bit easier for you soon. šŸ™‚

  • I took the missus to the Endoscopy Unit today for some more banding of the esophageal varices and she`s been sedated all day and back home………shall I use my own probe whilst she`s out of it ?. hahaha
It`s weird that as I was in the waiting room I was watching a programme on BBC One called….. Animal Saints and Sinners and in Stratford East London the Newham Animal Welfare people had to bring along the Police to a house with suspected Pit Bulls and there was my just departed brothers son in his Police uniform !……..yes, I know , he has brought great shame on the family becoming…The Filth !. hahaha

  • TCM,
Sorry to hear about your big brother, sad news lets hope he is in a better place, with his own massive cinema size tv to watch Arsenal on sky sports or his own cloud that hovers over the Emirates for a nice birds eye view.
    Total,
Nice pre-match round up, witch i agree with nearly all you said.
Cazorla was great for me on Sunday, he did it again in scoring Arsenal’s first goal at Wembley. He looked sharp and and very skillful. I had a feeling he would be on form, when i saw them lining up in the tunnel he walked over to the vampire and shock hands and gave him a hug, while laughing with the cheeky Cazorla way šŸ™‚ as soon as the embrace was over you could see the vampire thinking about the Spanish wizard that he managed at Malaga. He looked worried as he knows better then most just how dangerous the left foot , right footed Spaniard is and was. He would get in City’s team easy.
I think it was a great victory, both sides had some very important players missing so for me it balanced out.
I see City falling away a bit this season, i think they finish 3rd or 4th! They have had a great couple of seasons . But with all those big egos , i sense an unhappy dressing room and a few things not going there way for them this season. I also don’t see that have strengthened this summer.
The new players all did very well on Sunday , not much more i can add to what you and the Gooner fam have already said.
On TV5 , I don’t share the opinon that he he turned down Old Toilet or Barca because of his Arsenal loyalty. He went on holiday with Van Judas planning his move, til Wenger said he wanted Smalling in a swap that fell though and he had to go to Barca.
Wenger will be after a new CB , but there is a good chance that we will be directly competting with United for a top CB now as they are to still looking for a CB. However i think that players would rather join us right now.

  • TA,
Oh the one thing i was not sure i agree on at the moment is JW10, i if i am honest is i think i would prefer to play Rosicky over Jack at the moment. Jack needs a good season because for me he is far from a starter in this current midfield. He is not making enough things happen and is not scoring anywhere near enough goals.

  • My top four prediction to the 2014/15 EPL is

    1 Arsenal.
    2 Chelsea.
    3 City.
    4 United

That is slightlt biased of course, but i see our biggest threat as Chelsea, imo

  • I’m really keen on seeing what AW will do when Walcott is back fit. Just to see the formations we’ll play. I can totally see why AW went for Suarez last season, he provides the exact same options as Sanchez.

P.S : Anyone keen on seeing this formation? I think it could work a treat you know.
    Campbell
    Walcott – Ozil – Sanchez

Joel is the same height as Suarez, can hold up play like we saw at WC, can run in behind, has a powerful shot. I’d love for this to happen hehe šŸ™‚

  • Total,
I have seen the news, sad news indeed he was a funny geezer i enjoyed watching his movies over the years, i don’t think i can think of a actor who has acted out so many different roles.
    RIP

  • Walcott on who would win in a sprint between him and Thierry Henry?
Me! Thierry is in his 30s now so I would be very disappointed if I didn’t beat him. I beat his sprint record which Hector has now broken.

Yes you read that right! That was Theo at a media event, saying that Hector has beat his sprint record and is faster then Theo !!???? Wow i am even more impressed with Hector now!

  • Also news has been going around that we are after Chieck Tiote from Newcastle, the price with Pardew is said to have agreed is Ā£8m , the tough tackling Ivory Coast international would be good i think, but it might be BS .?

  • We all ( well most normal people……is this a place of normal people ?….silly question ! ) hate Traffic Wardens, but there`s someone I hate even more !…………the bastard tourists in St Ives who park in the “Loading Only Bays” when I`m trying to deliver !. I think these bastards should be fistfcuked by a Traffic Warden in a public humiliation ceremony !.

  • Vicker’s,
I think he would be better then not signing any DM , but i agree we can do better.
But all the big names floating about are very expensive , i think we can expect at least 1 more signing hopefully 2.

  • TMC,
It is quite a stressful job, that is the last thing you need after a road rage journey.
It was worst when we used to do it using maps, the sat-navs help but people don’t realise how stressful it can be driving all day.

  • I am going to wet my whistle down the pub , see if that fit bird is behind the bar šŸ™‚
    Speak soon Arsenal fam.

  • Despite all the transfer activity, we will go into the Palace games with an untried centre back and without the much wanted defensive midfielder. Mind you I read that the Palace players are threatening to strike because of a poor bonus pool. Really hope we get off to a good start, a repeat of the Villa fiasco would be a little hard to stomach.

Here’s hoping for a great season ahead. Think I am going to wet my whistle as well

  • People dying every day TA. But there was something unusually poignant about hearing the news this morning; I can’t put my finger on it, but it got me too.

  • Retsub,
I really hope we beat Palace and get of to a good start as well on Saturday.
We should do, i am pretty happy that our defence will be fine for Palace, Chambers will be fine if he and Kos could keep City from scoring then hopefully we should be fine v Palace.
It should really pay of later, resting the Germans that is. I see Jose has had Shurlly playing for Chelsea weeks ago. He will be knackered by Christmas for not being properly rested.
Fairplay on having a few drinks too šŸ™‚

  • PG. I am sure we will beat Palace, but they will no doubt park the proverbial bus. That’s when players like Sanogo and Campbell can come on as subs and mix things up a bit. Sanogo is interesting because you never know what he’s going to do next (not entirely convinced he knows either). But he does add variety. Now those beers

  • I think Sanogo can be a great player for us, Wenger had been after him for years.
I rate Wenger as the best in the world at finding young players and also rate him as the best at getting the best out of them.
So i hope for really great things from him.
I agree Palace with Tony Pullis will not make it easy for us, but once we score 1 the bus will hopefully get towed away lol. We have got some many players that can score that you feel we should get 3 goals . Fingers crossed.
    What is your prediction?
    I will go for 3-0

  • I would also like to see a front 3 of
    Joel Campbell——–Sanogo———–Alexis

    With Cazorla in the 10#

    ——————-Ram-teta—————– as DM and b2b

  • I will go for 2 nil. Goalless first half then two late goals Ramsey and Sanogo (sub). Just got a horrible feeling that Chamakh might steal one. Haven’t got a ticket for Saturday, so will be watching on the box. Geographically I live in Palace territory, si I may be invaded by Palace supporting neighbours who don’t have Sky

  • I like Palace as a club, i was never keen on Pullis. But i think since he joined Palace has become more humble and i want them to stay up, but just not to win against us. lol
They may nick 1 i was tempted to go for 3-1 but we are at home and full of confidence with as stronger team as we have had in years
    COYG

  • Palace also signed a very good defender in Bred Hangeland from Fulham, we were after him 2 years ago. He is good but our new pace should be to much for them, Though you are right they could score, they have a massive height advantage

  • Cheers for the summary TA!

Critics can belittle the importance of this match all they want, but silverware is silverware at the end of the day and it’s a big boost for our squad morale. Winning games we should win has been something we continually struggle with and for all the starters/players City were missing, we had Walcott, Ozil, Mertesacker and Podolski out as well.

Completely agreed on all fronts with your summary points. Santi looks prime for a bounce back season, while Rambo looks good to continue exactly where he left off last year. Szczesny will finally have the competition we all crave for and his over-exuberance may place him on the bench and allow him to finally mature once Ospina is healthy. The way Jack plays with his heart on his sleeve is so admirable that I will never understand how people cannot appreciate what he brings to this club. He may start less than 50% of games this season, but he’s still very young and the best is yet to come from our homegrown lad.

Finally, Chambers comes exactly as advertised and exactly as I had described him in my scouting report a few articles ago! He’s going to be the perfect replacement for Mertesacker down the road and has the versatility to line up at three positions, which is invaluable for us. What amazes me the most is his composure – even when he clears the ball, he isn’t looking to just boot it down field and instead plays a long ball to one of his teammates (usually on the money). We could still stand to buy another CB and Agger would be good business IMO. PL proven, in the prime of his career, decent ball playing ability and a perfect 3rd CB for rotation or in case of injury.

  • Super comment, HH, and good to see you back again! Yes Agger would be good enough for Arsenal. šŸ™‚

Agger/ Koz and BFG/the Chamb would give us two fine CB pairings.

  • AB šŸ™‚

Depression is a monster and it’s got another victim. All very sad. Robin Williams was one of the finest actors ever who, ironically and paradoxically, brought so many smiles to our faces. R.I.P.

  • I have got a ticket for the CP game and am so looking fwd to seeing the boys in red and white.

Have a good day FFG’s and look after yourselves – carpe diem! šŸ™‚

  • Yes, ‘Seize the Day’, another of Robin’s fine films. Depression is very hard for an outsider to fully understand? Today Lauren Bacall …

From a personal viewpoint, I can say at least she was older than me.

There is a lot to be depressed about from a human perspective though?

Wars raging in the Middle East might at least make Israel think it could be a bonus to have a Palestine State as a buffer between them and the Islamist State advance, should that achieve its aims?

History seems to rarely teach political leaders anywhere. When Tito departed, the separate countries splintered, and there was genocide. When Blair decided that Iraq needed to be ‘liberated’, once again, the false borders created by Western interests, imploded, and now exploited by extremists. Not that these leaders weren’t brutal in their own way, but they ‘contained’ the worst extremists, and all including in Syria have had leaders who wanted World recognition, and could over time, be changed. If you look at at China for example. Too big to tackle when Mao took control, and varies brutal suppressions since, but the latest leadership look to be heading in the right direction?
We now have Putin, who appears to want to take Russia back to its pre Cold War position, and recreate the USSR? He won’t last for ever. Maybe, the next leader will be keen to accept more humanitarian values over personal glory. Gorbachov tried. Possibly the next time it will be more universally accepted?

So, yes, there is a lot to be depressed about. So it puts our disappointment in signings, and players performance into perspective. Or at least it should?

Is there a point to the above? Not really. Enjoy your day …

  • Yes, the complexities of the mind !. Although we should care and sympathise with those that suffer from depression there are exceptions………..The State of N17 !……..may the deluded bastards long suffer from living in our shadow !. Anyone against Arsenal`s oppressive regime ?. hahaha

  • after reading Admir’s Pace Pace and more Pace and then hearing Proudgooner announce that Hector just beat Theo’s sprint record i started to wonder who the quickest players are at Arsenal in order, anybody know?
    I’m guessing something like;
    Bellerin
    Walcott
    Chamberlain
    Gibbs
    Akpom
    Sanchez
    Campbell
    Koscielny
    Ramsey quicker than Jack?

Anyway it makes a pretty insane team lol

    bellerin—-chambers—-koscielny—-gibbs

    sanchez——ramsey——chambo

    campbell—-walcott—-akpom

  • Fast !!!………..None of them can touch Wenger the day he thought he left his wallet in his jacket at the dry cleaners !.

  • cockie pmsl,
or when he’s spotted an unknown playing in the Championnat de France amateur 2 league, he’s pretty quick then too

  • Steve,
That would be a very interesting team, of course the pace of it would be out oif this world but it is also balanced and could really work.
It really does make me sit up and think this season we will see a whole new dimension from Arsenal. We could start to see the real Wengerball come back in!
Wenger will be very keen to get Ozil back fully fit so he can work with him in training at bringing out the best in him at using his new pacey players šŸ˜‰
    COYG

  • The new players that have come in should also take the pressure of the likes of Giroud, Walcott and Ozil that they have players that can back them up and give them a rest .
While Szcz will get a bit of added needed pressure as HH said to push him to improve.

  • proudgooner, i know what you mean mate, i literally just started to list all the quickest players we have and then when i went to make that team for a laugh it actually turned out quite balanced as you said.
would love to see us on the break with that kind of pace throughout the team lol

  • Steve,
Defo, just say you swapped Akpom for Mesut Ozil to supply the ammo on the left wing. With all that pace we may lose a goal or 2 but the amount we would score would be awesome.
The hand of Budda ha ha ha ha
I really hope Hector gets about 10 starts this season, he is a big talent and he needs to play.
We also need to keep him happy so in the future he stays. Plus it gives MB a break and he will be fresh for the CL games. We need to keep players fresh for the big games in the league and CL.

  • Cheers TA, always happy to comment when I get a chance to šŸ™‚

steve, I think you have to be specific when discussing “pace”. Are we talking about what FIFA deems as “pace” or is pace running speed when fully going/sustained pace or acceleration or change of pace? Also, some players may not be seen as “fast”, but when you watch them play, they certainly seem faster than you would assume.

Anyway, if I’m going by acceleration, my top 11 list would be: Walcott (I still don’t think anyone’s faster than him), Bellerin, Chamberlain, Gibbs, Sanchez, Campbell, Wilshere, Debuchy, Koscielny, Ozil, Ramsey (Akpom won’t be with the first team)

If I’m going by full speed once fully going/sustained pace, Walcott would drop to 4th.

I think the issue in our team is no longer pace, but whether our playing style allows us to exploit that pace. We often see wide players bombing down the flanks since that is what our set-up allows for, while central players tend to play more intricate passing triangles.

  • If you also consider that Hector is just 19, while Theo is 25. It shows even more just how lightening quick the Spaniard is.
We don’t know when Theo last did a timed sprint. But either way the lad is super quick.
He will only get faster over the next 10 years šŸ™‚

  • Highbury Harmony, yes mate you were right in your assumption, i was going for acceleration since just as you mentioned i would have a hard time judging and therefore listing in order the players positions when using all the different ways pace can be expressed.
For example i never think Wilshere has that much pace but when i see him going past people it always seems like he actually has.
Anyway yep you’re right, lets hope we can take full advantage of all this pace now – maybe some different formations may help.
It certainly doesn’t hurt having midfielders like Chambo that do well with the little triangles and have blistering pace also.

  • btw if players like Akpom and Gnabry aren’t going to be used this season (first team) surely they have to go out on loan, i hear Southampton might need one or two players lol

  • Steve,
That makes sense to me. They need to play to improve. I think Ryo may need the same i think he is going to struggle to play. I would be pleased to be proved wrong.
Also to Southampton is a good shout i feel sorry for them, plkus they have shown they are good at developing players.

  • proudgooner, Exactly
and yep Ryo is 21 now its pretty much make or break time with so much talent on the wings ahead of him and a loan out could definitely show us which way his future’s going to go

  • It is a tricky 1 all 3 are great players, but they just have to play.
Wenger also loves developing young players and it goes against how he used to do things.
Akpom i feel needs 1 season on loan to an EPL club for games.
Gnabry hopefully get enough playing time to stay but, he would not do badly in having 1 season out on loan to get more playing time.
Ryo is the trickiest , as you said and i fully agree it is a make or break season.
Gnabry is an Arsenal player, for me he is the best of the 3, Akpom though i do rate highly, he is very fast and skillful.

  • completely agree, its strange talking about make or break time at the age of 21 but having just seen thomas eisfeld leave i think Wengers getting a bit more cut-throat about the youngsters he continues to have faith in now

  • Just a little stat for you.
Arteta holds the all time EPL record for the most completed passes.

  • šŸ™‚ ha ha ha, i was going to mention Eisfeld in that comment, so yes i totally agree.
I mean Zaleleem will be looking for playing time and should get some. But
Diarby and Le Coq will also be looking to push on.
The only worry is we only have 6 defenders that is not enough, i expect at least 1 more to be signed 2 would be a lot better, though Flemini can play in defence so to can Le Coq, with Chambers able to play a few positions and Monreal, but we need at least 1 more.

  • They is gossip on newsnow, that we are preparing a Ā£51m bid for Edinson Cavani from PSG..???

  • I`ve just come back from the future where`s there`s a NEW POST !……….actually there`s two !.
